Argumentative Essay on Should Cellphones Be Allowed in School

Should cellphones be allowed in schools? This is the one question being asked by all parents, students and teachers everywhere across the nation! In Ontario specifically, the government has banned the use of cell phones all across the province during school hours and during “instruction time.” This means students aren’t allowed to use their cell phones during these hours no matter what. Many people applaud the government for this decision, while some others argue that cell phones actually help students in school.

Although cell phones have recently been banned in schools due to the distractions they may cause, students should be allowed to use cellphones in school. Cell phones can be used to support student learning. They are cost effective for schools and they provide peace of mind in case of emergencies.

One reason why students should be allowed to use cellphones in school is that they can be used to support student learning. According to an article named “Cell phones as educational tools save cost, time and energy,” It stated that “Cell phones can be an effective educational tool. Teaching and learning can be made easier if they are used wisely. For example, a student can download educational applications to their phones. The apps can help teachers devise creative ways to teach and make lessons more interesting. Teachers and students can answer questions via the phones, students’ progress feedback can be gathered through the phones and there are applications to document lab and group projects and teachers’ notes. Everything is at their fingertips.” Therefore, with personal cell phones, students can search anything they are unclear about at any time, they can email the teacher about a question if they aren’t confident to ask in front of the class and are too shy, students can use an online calculator if they don’t have access to one in real life or don’t have one on them, they can access all of their online assignments by their phone and apps like using Google Classroom right away. Phones also help teachers post any last minute posts on Google Classroom, they can share notes with students right away online rather than printing them out or making them copy them in class, and teachers can check on students progress on work and assignments anytime. A survey called “The Student Pulse Survey” by TopHat, conducted by Survata, an independent research firm polled 520 college students about learning with cell phones. 75% of students have found that using personal devices in the class has improved their ability to learn and absorb information. 58% of students use their phones to take pictures of lecture slides and 39% use their phones to access online textbooks. So this also proves that many students use their cell phones for school purposes and to help them not fall behind and to help support their learning. For an example, some students might be fast writers, while others aren’t and if they aren’t fast writers, they might not be able to keep up with everyone else while taking notes. With cell phones they can take pictures of the notes and finish them at home without having to worry if they got all the notes or not.

Another reason why cell phones should be in school is that they are cost effective for schools. Liz Kolb, an assistant professor at the University of Michigan School of Education from the article “As Schools Lift Bans on Cell Phones, Educators Weigh Pros and Cons,” says that, “They’re really seeing them as a learning tool, not just a toy for entertainment, and they’re seeing that they can be cost effective for the schools instead of having to purchase technology for students.” This means that's if cell phones are allowed in schools and students can use them, schools wouldn’t have to waste money to buy devices for each student to have if they have their own phones, because buying devices isn’t cheap and they can be really expensive, especially for getting one for each student in EACH CLASS. Schools can instead save this money or use the money to buy or invest in something else like getting more motivational speakers or authors to come talk to the children, the money can go towards recreational activities like Play Days, or to raise awareness for mental health in schools, which will also benefit many children. According to another article called “Schools should embrace cell phones as learning tools instead of banning them,” It stated that “Most high schools in the United States do not have enough computers for all students to use at once. By allowing cell phone usage, the ability to access the Internet will become much easier and will help schools save money.” This suggests that not all schools can afford to buy devices for all their students, and in order to get these funds schools might have to cut off funding for stuff like clubs, extracurricular activities and cooking classes, and all these activities are loved by students. Cutting funds from activities like this can cause students to feel less motivated about going to school and instead of this happening, if students were allowed to bring cell phones to school, none of this would be necessary.

The final reason why students should be allowed to bring cell phones to schools is because  they provide peace of mind in case of emergencies. According to an article called, “10 Advantages to Allowing Kids to Have Cellphones in Schools,” it stated that,“The amount of time it takes to reach a parent during an emergency can be significantly reduced if the child has a cell phone. Finding “Mom” or “Dad” listed on their contact list and making the call from the site of the emergency would be much quicker than having to notify the teacher or office and having them look the information up in their system.” This means that with cell phones students would be able to call their parents MUCH quicker, than having to go all the way to the office and telling them the situation if the teacher hasn't already called and informed them, telling them your phone number and waiting for your parents to pick up and sometimes not all parents pick their phones up if they see an unknown number calling them and they might just ignore it, while if they saw their child calling during school hours, they would know it might be something really important for them to be calling. One other article named “Pros of cellphones in school,” said that sometimes you need to get into touch with your children at school right away, even while they are in class. This could be because of a recent death that occurred in the family, an accident or any other emergency that could require their attention and stated that “Phones are also particularly useful during recess and lunch hours when students aren't in class and may be difficult to find.” So if students have their cell phones on them, parents can also call them immediately in case of an emergency, instead of having to call the office and explain everything to them and wait for them to reach the child, and this can be extremely difficult during recess because when there are a lot of kids outside, you can’t really find who your looking for. By wasting all that time trying to find the child, something could have happened just because you couldn’t get in touch with your child right away, but if they had a cell phone on them you could have immediately got in touch.

These three reasons are why although cell phones have recently been banned in schools due to the distractions they may cause, students should be allowed to use cellphones in school. Cell phones can be helpful to students in so many ways, from helping them learn to quickly getting in contact with their families and don’t we all want the students across Ontario to succeed and become successful? Then if cell phones help with their learning shouldn’t they be permitted?

Cell Phones in School: Should Be Banned, Restricted or Allowed?

Why Cell Phones in School Should Be Banned?

The use of mobile phones in schools has attracted the attention of many individuals, state organizations, learning institutions, the media and the society at large. Different views have been raised on the positive impacts and the negative repercussion that come as a result of the use of mobile phones in schools. Although some positive aspects can be drawn from the use of mobile phones in schools, the negative impacts are saddening and the need to be looked at with great caution. Poor school performance of children and cheating in exams can be attributed to the use of mobile phones in schools.

School children with mobile phones tend to have a short span of attention in class due to various activities, as surfing the internet, playing games and texting. These children are also likely to cheat in exams by searching for answers through the internet or texting their colleagues for answers. Likewise, cases of mobile phone theft increase due to the urge of getting better phones to those who already have and the desire of having a phone to the poor children who cannot afford it. These should thus give an alarm to the school board to ban the use of mobile phones.

One of the major reasons why the use of mobile phones by school children should be banned is because it promotes cheating during exams. The mobile phones may provide good avenues for the children to cheat in exams and thus earn undeserved credits. Children use the taken pictures of class notes, videos, text messaging as well as wireless earbuds to gain access to materials that assist them during the exams. According to the National School Resource Officer Survey in 2004 by NASRO, it was estimated that more than 41 percent had reported handling cases of students using mobile phones improperly. The officers reported that among the improper ways school children had used mobile phones included cheating in exams, particularly through text messaging and the internet.

Another reason why the school board should ban the use of mobile phones is due to the short span of attention by the children. Student’s concentration in class is distracted on various occasions in the presence of mobile phones. In certain instances, the disturbance can be carried on to the rest of the children in class if the phone rings out loud. This is more likely to happen and cause a lot of distraction, hampering the learning process if these phones are not put in silent mode. Moreover, if a phone is put in silent mode or on vibration, it distracts the owner leading to a short attention span in class. If a call or message, for instance, comes in, the student loses concentration and diverts their attention towards reading the message or answering the call. These lower the student’s understanding of things taught in class and in turn results in poor performance.

It is essential for the school board to note that the use of mobile phones by children promotes theft. The changing technology results in the production of more attractive and expensive mobile phones that not every child can afford. Theft complaints are thus not going to stop anytime soon if the use of mobile phones in schools will not be banned. Despite the fact that some of the children already own mobile phones, they will be tempted to steal the more sophisticated ones from their friends. The poor children who cannot afford a cell phone are no exemption and they are most likely to steal any type of phone for them to own one. It is best if schools ban their use to prevent such cases of theft.

It is thus justifiable to conclude that the school board has a big part to play in making the learning environment suitable for all the children. The ban on the use of mobile phones will be very beneficial to all and would lead to better performance. The children’s concentration span in class would improve, cheating in exams would be minimized and cases of mobile phone theft in schools would be forgotten. If the school board embraces the idea of making it illegal to use mobile phones, the society will benefit and the school children will all have a favorable environment to learn.

Why Cell Phones in School Should Be Restricted?

People create different devices and machines due to the constant growth of human needs and demands. It is connected with the appropriate improvement in the quality of life. In fact, the creation of such a modern device as a cell phone refers to great wonders of the twenty-first century, even if its use at school is under great concern. Thus, the development of the cell phone and its regular use can improve the process of studying at school, but it can also destruct the way students thinking and learning.

The cell phone makes a revolution in education. It widens children’s outlook and suggests new ways and approaches for learning more information in different subjects through video use. It becomes evident that “allowing students to use cell phones in the classroom for specific, academic purposes has the power to increase student engagement and allow teachers to more effectively assess learning on a daily basis” (Giambalvo).

It means that the particular use of this device contributes to the development of creativity and interactive experience. Students can get free access to a large number of sources which can be essential in studying. In this case, juniors are motivated to set their goals and reach them observing different videos based on the learning topics. Additionally, this issue includes social and emotional aspects that show how an individual can assess himself/herself to reveal the appropriate persistence and diligence. Thus, modern teachers consider cell phones as a useful tool for learning, which makes studying easier and more interesting.

The cell phones provide new effective ways of learning for those who try to overcome the difficulties with the second language. In this case, it’s primary purpose is to improve the limits of students’ vocabulary. With the help of mobile dictionaries, students can memorize many new words including their translation and spelling. They also develop their vocabulary while writing a test after reading the assignment, which seems to be rather difficult (Lu 515). The point is that students do not have any limitation to learn more words every time they look up a new one and its various meanings. It is known that lexical information improves the intellect, and students’ speech becomes better. Therefore, the effectiveness of cell phone use is obvious, and it is necessary to further develop this approach.

On the other hand, cell phones cause cheating and unceasing ringing that destroys classroom policies at school. Many teachers claim that “the technology is considered a serious source of distraction in the classroom” because it has a negative impact on academic performance (Campbell 280). In such a way, plagiarism becomes a common problem that exists among students. After finishing high schools, they are not ready to develop and create their own ideas. Students have boundless access to the Internet, thus they simply copy and paste the suggested information. It brings harm to the students’ studying as they do not make any considerable effort to develop their own intellectual skills and abilities in the process of learning. Additionally, teachers often complain that they cannot concentrate on the representation of new material due to the ringing in the class.

Moreover, parents notice that their children stop paying much attention to the school assignments but talk over the phone all the time. Perhaps, it is a precise result of parents’ numerous requests to allow their children to use mobile phones at school as they are against the past ban (Taylor). Thus, the cell phone becomes children’s obsession as they gradually begin to depend on this advanced technology.

In conclusion, the use of the cell phone improves the quality of studying as teachers can apply various teaching videos. Students can also learn the second foreign language via the cell phone by consulting the dictionary and memorizing new words as well as establishing communication and interacting with each other. However, the use of cell phones has several disadvantages while studying: the main one is cheating. This leads to reducing students’ own knowledge because they are out of practice. Therefore, it is necessary to restrict the use of cell phones at school in order to avoid plagiarism which is not good for students studying.

Why Cell Phones in School Should Be Allowed?

In terms of using cell phones in school, various improvements have been established at different schools, which benefited students since their privacy has been improved as well as an effective and essential means of communication was implemented. Schools are trying out various policies that allow having cell phones at schools with some permitting students to use their phones only during breaks or at lunchtime. Other schools are encouraging students to have cell phones at school in order to enhance the educational process, the main purpose of which is to improve understanding in the classroom.

This is helpful in various ways since it provides suitable platforms for enhancing educational understanding. Other policies that were implemented allow students to carry cell phones to school and use them after classes and at breaks. The phones should be kept in lockers or backpacks during classes. This is unlike the policy of some schools that allow phones and encourage students to carry them to school and use them in class for their educational advantage.

Cell phones use in high school during break times should, therefore, be allowed because of personal rights, privacy issues, and effective and essential communication. The use of cell phones during breaks prevents students from losing attention in class and allows them to maintain necessary communications with their parents as well as provides them with the advantages of e-learning tools. Allowing students to use cell phones at school gives students the right to personal life and privacy. In addition, cell phones enhance research and improve students’ understanding since they have more access to information that is available on the Internet.

Debate # 6: Cell Phones should be Banned in the Classroom?

This week’s debate regarding the use and existence of cell phones in the classroom generated a lot of interesting points, making it even more difficult for me to decide whether I agree or disagree. The agreed team includes Echo, Lovepreet, and Amanpreet, while disagreeing team members include Bret, Reid, and Leona. Both the team did a wonderful job of representing their arguments. I believe that the effects of mobiles phones at school is a hotly debated topic in many countries. Some advocate for a complete ban to limit distractions, while others suggest using technology as a teaching tool. Schools have introduced the bans for various reasons including to improve academic outcomes and decrease bullying as its indicate in this article by agreed team.. Several researches point to positive impact of banning mobile phones at school on student performance and other outcomes. Understanding the evidence is crucial for best policy.

Banning mobile phones in schools can improve students' academic performance. This is how we know

Smartphones make it difficult for students to concentrate in class. Kids might play games, watch videos, or check out apps instead of paying attention to the teacher. They can easily miss important information. Plus, a ringing or buzzing phone distracts other students.

write an argumentative essay on the topic the use of mobile phone by student should be banned

Also, some kids might be tempted to use their phones to cheat. They could go online and look up answers during a test, or they could text their friends for help. It’s critical that they don’t bring their phones to school – not only because of the distraction in class, but also because there are issues with students filming each other or the teachers, or taking pictures of the teacher. The amount of online bullying and peer-on-peer harassment drops when mobile phones are banned.

In class, students frequently forget to switch off their phones, causing ringing noises or text message notifications to disrupt learning and schoolwork. Since text messaging has become a high-tech form of sharing notes in school, cell phones can still cause distraction for students and educators, even if they are set to silent.

Cell Phones in School; Distraction or Teaching Tool? – Peninsula Outlook

Young people and adults, as seen in the popular Netflix documentary The Social Dilemma from 2020, have an addiction and need to check their phones and notifications anytime they are available. This would suggest that even when the phone’s sound is turned off or the phone is switched off completely, the mere existence of the phone might be distracting. Increased screen usage has also been linked to negative effects on learning and development. There is emerging   evidence  that phones can be a distraction to learning.

write an argumentative essay on the topic the use of mobile phone by student should be banned

As one of the agreed debtors raises an important point that allowing cell phones in schools will give rise to an unhealthy, unwanted competition as students with expensive and latest model phones will overwhelm those who have got low-cost or old model phones. Not only would there be disparity within a single group but parents would be under constant pressure to get new expensive phones for their children

Additionally, students might also start browsing irrelevant, inappropriate websites and waste their time which can be utilized for studies. Also, they will be negatively influenced by the content of badly chosen sites which will hamper their overall growth, mindset, and personality as indicated by this article mentioned by the agreed team.

While the problems with cellphones in school are valid, and clear consequences for misuse should be enforced, implementing a blanket policy forbidding the resource altogether would be severely  counter-intuitive and unrealistic! as explained by the disagreed team.

Reasons Why Phones in School Should Be Allowed in an article :

1. Cellphones in school are inevitable.

2. Phones in school are good for the environment!

3. Phones in school teach digital literacy.

4. Phones in school improve communication.

5. Cellphones in school increase flexibility, convenience, and organization.

6. Phones in school increase a sense of safety.

7. Phones in school saves up money.

8. Phones in school provide easy access to information.

9. Cellphones in school provide supplementary learning materials.

10. Cellphones in school serves as a memory aid.

11. Phones in school promote independence.

Listed above are just some of the few reasons why innovative schools across the world are integrating smartphones into the classroom.

The rise of BYOD in Australian schools

The  “ Bring Your Own Device ”  (BYOD) movement, which began in the school world as an approach to increase students’ morale and productivity, is now being adopted by more and more schools.

The Bottom Line: Should Students Have Cell Phones In School?

There’s no easy answer: For me, there are both pros and cons to students having cell phones in school. Although they can be used as a learning tool in the classroom, this only works as long as students use them effectively.

This means for teachers who decide to use cell phones (or any other digital device) as part of their lessons, it’s important to set ground rules and keep a close eye on how they are being used. Finding that balance between appropriate cellphone use and knowing when to take a break and turn off the device is something we need to strive for. This may not be easy, but it is possible if teachers and students are willing to cooperate and put the work in.

Great job summarizing both sides of the debate. I agree with you we must attempt to strike a balance between appropriate smartphone use and understanding when to take a break and turn off the gadget, It is totally dependent upon teachers and students who are willing to work together and put in the effort.

Thank you Shivali for your interesting comment! I truly believe that balance in everything is a key to success as well as cooperation between educators and students in the classroom is also important in a way of achieving success.

Agreed I think that it is a bad thing to have cell phones in class because u wouldn’t get any work done I agree greatly that’ it should be banned

I belive that it is ok for students to have them as said in the article if they are compltally banned it will become counter-intuitave but over time students can quickly learn and get the habit of self disecplene and for themselves will know when it is the right time to use them

The points about cellphones is good and relevant. Can you take me to your country I Will bring more studies

Great response! The BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is an interesting way of looking to the future and getting students ready for their careers and the real world once they are finished their education. People will have cellphones/devices with them constantly, so it is imperative to stay current and utilize the technology available.

Thank you Reid for your insightful comment !! I believe that BYOD should be promoted in classroom because it promotes greater participation in the classroom. When new technologies are incorporated into everyday learning, students quickly become more interested in the material, and thus more likely to succeed as well as it also fosters a positive image in the community and can work wonders in attracting students outside of school lines.

thats cool and all, but like, who asked?

Another concern is cyberbullying. With cell phones, students can send hurtful messages or share embarrassing photos quickly and easily. This can lead to a lot of harm and distress for the victims. Schools need to ensure they have proper measures in place to prevent and address cyberbullying if they allow cell phones.

In conclusion, whether cell phones should be allowed in school is a complex issue. They can be great tools for learning and communication, but they can also be sources of distraction and cyberbullying. It’s important for schools to weigh the pros and cons before making a decision. They should also think about how they can use cell phones in a way that benefits students while minimizing the risks.

Understandably, cell phones are innovative technology in the modern world. It is an amazing thing that almost everyone has a phone in the modern world. However, the reason students fancy this device in the learning institutions has triggered intensive debate. Some feel that allowing students to use mobile phones will be a distraction to their studies, building chances for examination cheating and risking the students to irresponsible behaviors. On the other hand, some feel that mobile phones are essential tools during emergencies, research work, and keeping touch with the guardians or the teachers for support needed in a particular time. Different literatures have revealed the advantages, disadvantages and consequences of using mobile phones. In 2012, Learning Technology Association observed that the number of teenagers having phones has increased from 72%-89%. In 2010, the U.S Higher Educational Sector recommended the implementation of policies prohibiting the usage of cell phones in the high schools. However, some parent approached the superintendents on the same issues, lifting some of the regulatory policies made. Should cell phones be banned or allowed in schools? How caregivers perceive the overall usage of mobile phones by their teenagers? There are possible avenues to address these queries. Despite the critics’ views on the importance of allowing the students to possess mobiles phones in their classrooms, cell phones should be banned because they present a distraction that is not needed especially to the students. This idea will prevent cheating, immorality, and mental distractions; hence responsible behaviors and accountability in the learners.

1.2 Presentations

To begin with, allowing the students to have cell phones in the learning institutions will lead to misuse of these devices. For instance, modern technology has incorporated extra features to mobile phones creating a significant difference from the phone model produced in the last few decades. These features include MP3 players, Short Message Services, Facebook, Whatsapp, and the blue tooth services. Some of these features are likely to harm the concentration of the students in their studies since they find fun in socializing; sending text messages to one another, sharing photos and videos (Ling 109). In some instances, mobile phones may contribute to cyberbullying, whereby a student may send vulgar messages to another or even share immoral videos with their peers. This information disorganizes the students’ mental setup, making it harder for them to concentrate on their studies. Subsequently, this translates to conflicts among students, irresponsible behaviors, and a lack of ethics in their daily life. Scientific research indicates that the mind develops depending on what it is fed. Meaning, if the student are exposed to meaningful information in their early development stage, their mind is likely to capture adapt to such information; hence facilitating innovation and creativity . Conversely, some information is likely to be damaging to the children when they are subjected. Such persons will strive to achieve what is advocated in the information, thus complicating their live. Accordingly, the different measures can apply to solve the challenges presented by the use of mobile phones in learning institutions (Kuyath 275). Confiscation of the cell phone by the school administration has long been fruitful although very controversial. Taking cell phones from the students and never return them could help in preventing violation of the school’s policies on the use of the cell phones. When the confiscation policies are implemented in the learning institutions, students will have fears of losing their gadgets, thus preferring to leave them in their homestead than leaving them to their teachers or the schools administrators. This strategy will prevent disrupting students’ studies and automatic failures in the examinations.

Secondly, banning students from having cell phones will reduce distractions during class sessions. For example, funny ringtones especially when receiving calls or messages might disrupt students while in class. This scenario could occur when the students forget to switch off their phones or subject them to silent modes during the class sessions. Different researchers have shown that successful learning occurs in a conducive environment where communication between teachers and learners is efficient. Moreover, a good environment provides teachers will a favorable condition to study the behaviors of the students as well as solving problems that they might find offensive to reveal to them. Therefore, banning cell phones in the learning environment will guarantee teachers simplicity in the teaching profession, making them enjoy their careers. Similarly, students will have adequate time for research activity in the library and laboratories, reaping maximally since there will be no distractions.

Thirdly, many parents recognize the importance of banning cell phones citing that they reduce their knowledge retention. In fact, Harrington and Elaine (2013) observed, “ Phone addiction , especially to the teenagers, leads to substitution of the essential information with the less important information that could emerge social media platforms” (354). Some information posted on social websites such as Twitter and Facebook could be viral to the learners. The music, chat and the videos transmitted could add more harm than benefits to a student. When youths are addicted to the cell phones, they become vulnerable to loss of memory since the mind is preoccupied with other things. Subsequently, some students will be dependent of mobiles phones during the examinations, hence cultivating cheating.

1.3 Justifications

However, some may claim that phones are essential learning tools; students may direct them to the wrong use. For example, cameras, calculators, and internet are some of the tools that students use to compromise examination ethics. Most of the students who have prior cases pertaining exam irregularities suggests that there were they were using these mobile phones since their libraries lack some of the material that could be found on the internet. Far from this notion, students have the habit of creating jokes to the fellow students through text messages during the class hours. Instead of learning, some students utilize significant fraction of their time gaming over their phones. If it is a “technology thing” that teenagers should have mobile phones, they should leaves them at their homestead to help in building a sustainable learning environment. Moreover, the school administration should secure adequate learning materials in the library, laboratories, and the workshops. Embracing technology in such areas will promote high research work and motivate students in doing studies (Kolb 40).

Second, prohibiting cell phones in the learning institutions will ensure that the students utilize the precious time in doing constructive activities. Imagine a case where a student misplaces his or her mobile phone. Such a student will be mentally disturbed, making it hard to concentrate on the academic matters. Moreover, it is not every pupil can afford the mobile phone. In such a case, the less fortunate student may have low esteem from lacking a tool of identity among the fellow students. The effects will rob off the learner confidence of self-expressions making the schooling life difficult. The mental instability could result in poor performance to the unfortunate students. In severe mental disorganization cases, a student may be jealous over the fellow student, tending to damaging the cell phone or stealing. Therefore, the most effective means of preventing such incidences is by banning possession of the mobile phones in the learning vicinity (Junco and Dianne 288).

Third, banning mobile phones will reduce conflict and bullying behaviors among students the in sense that there is no one who will pry into the privacy information of the fellow student. Since teenagers use mobile phones to share their personal matters, they have resistances when anyone is trying to log into their social accounts to preview the information shared. Statistics shows that cyber bullying 39% of the teenagers have ever experienced cyber bullying 68% of the young mobile users utilize them in sending ill messages and unethical videos or music. Creation of bad relations between students will create jealousy, hindering sharing of academic information among them (Straubhaar and Lucinda Davenport 328). Such environment cannot accommodate teamwork; hence learning will be terrible. It means that banning of the cell phones in the learning environment will enhance good relations and equality among students. Their moral and class standards are likely to be high.

1.4 Summary

Some argue that cell phones should be allowed in the classrooms since they help the parent to keep touch with their children. One can acknowledge this idea, but every student is always under the care of his or her teachers whenever they are in the learning institution. Alternatively, students should develop the habit of reporting their issues or needs to their teachers who could provide immediate support before reaching to their parents. Still, the nagging behaviors of the students towards their parents would hamper their maturity into responsible beings if the usage of the cell phones could be tolerated in the schools. Therefore, the time, efforts, and other resource investments for their education would go to waste.

Despite the perception that mobile phones are a rich source of academic information , the educations management board should ensure that the learning institutions meet the standards of providing quality education. The libraries should have adequate materials where students can performance research studies are will without congesting or queuing for these services. Still, the laboratories should be spacious, and equipped with the adequate computers to serve the learners. In such a learning environment, there is no reason students should be in possession of the mobile phones. Alternatively, abolishing mobile phones from the learning environment will reduce parental control over their children when they are in schools. The school management is likely to have a good time to afford better and quality management without external interferences.

The availability of the mobile phones with the students will not prevent the occurrence of the emergencies as cited by many guardians. Alternatively, the learning institutions should invest in the health management programs to ensure that they can provide timely assistance to the students before the situation aggravating. Effective learning is attained through healthy living.

1.5 Conclusions

The risks of wasting the students’ potential by permitting the use of mobile phones in the learning institutions are high. There is no need for the parent to invest in such expensive gadgets while the school management has provided inclusive aspect to ensure productive learning. Also, parents, teachers, and learners will be free from mental distractions that could arise if such device got lost or is damaged. Still, the examinations will create a fairground for every student since some will not work underhand strategies to pass. Therefore, banning cell phone in learning institutions should be welcomed.

Argumentative Essay Example: Cell Phones Should Be Banned in Schools

📌Category: ,

📌Published: 25 September 2022

Do you ever sit in a class and realize that students aren’t paying attention because they are distracted by their cell phones? In free periods, just about every student sits on their phone with their head down. Why waste time when you can spend that free time doing school work or interacting with others? In other classes, students are missing out on information because they are on their cell phones. Cell phones are just setting up students for failure. Do we really want students to fail? No. Cell phones should be banned in schools.

The main reason why students miss out on  information is because of cell phones. When students sit on their cell phones during class, it makes it very difficult for them to stay focused. Since the use of cell phones has increased, cyberbullying is also starting to increase. During the school day, if a student sees that they are left out of a group chat or sees a photo to which they compare themselves too, can make it hard for them to stay focused throughout the school day.

Along with students being distracted, cell phones have caused a decline in communication between students. Joe Clemet, a U.S. government teacher, and Matt Miles, also a teacher, have said that “free periods have deteriorated from lively talk among students and teachers to silent screen reading, each student in a little world.” Clement thought that he could bring back the lively talk of students during a free period class by restricting cell phones. Students responded by not showing up and going to a different free period class where cell phones weren’t  restricted. It has also been found that cell phone use increases the rate of depression. Face-to-face time with friends decreases depression. Creating a school environment without cell phones can help students have a face-to-face interaction with others. This will help create a healthy environment for students in school.

Furthermore, cell phone use does not boost achievement. Students who are on their cell phones during class time, tend to perform worse on tests (usually a full letter grade or more). According to a study in 2017, some participants were told to keep their cell phones nearby, and the other participants were told to put their cell phones in a different room. Each participant was asked to perform a memory task. The participants with their cell phones did much worse than the participants who didn’t have their cell phones. For instance, in one of my classes, I see students who don’t even pick up their heads because they are on their cell phones. When it's time for them to take a test, they have no idea what they are doing. When they get their test grade back, they seem to not know why they performed so poorly. They performed so poorly because they were distracted by their cell phone. They don’t realize all the information they missed out on. Some schools have changed their cell phone policy and they saw an increase in test scores by 6.41%. This shows that cell phones are causing students to perform poorly.

Finally, some schools believe that the use of cell phones should not be banned. Some schools have even worked cell phones into the daily curriculum. From text reminders to school apps, cell phones are making the learning system much easier. Even though cell phones are making the learning system easier,  there will be a higher chance that students will cheat, cell phones will still cause distractions, and there will still be less interaction. Even if cell phones are useful tools for the learning system, they still won’t solve these problems.

In conclusion, cell phones create an unhealthy environment for students. They cause distractions, failure, and less interactions. Cell phones are an unhealthy distraction for students. They should be banned in schools.

Mobile phones are widely used by university students and there is a controversial topic whether students should be able to use them freely during lectures. A survey was distributed seeking student opinions on using mobile phones in classroom. We used two-phase sampling method to reduce the nonresponse bias. There were 392 valid responses. To test the effect of different factors on students’ opinions a number of statistical techniques were utilized. The results showed Qatar University students marginally favored using mobile in classroom but using mobile phone distracted some students who are less in favor of using phone during lectures. The proportion of students who believe that student should decide to use or not use mobile in the classes is 0.635. Apparently, students expected implementation of a policy that controls the use of mobile phones in class. Recommendations include a blanket policy for the University on the use of mobile phones during class, mobile phone breaks given by...

Argumentative Essay on the Use of Mobile Phones in Schools

Here you have an argumentative essay on the use of mobile phones in schools with Pdf. You can Download it free from here, and take advantage of many more essays examples.

Introduction

There are both positive and negative effects of cell phones on today’s generation. In my opinion, there are good reasons why students allow cell phones to be used in schools.

Parents can communicate directly with their children in emergencies. During break time, when there is no continuous classroom, children can easily talk to their parents and get the information they need from them. Besides, if students suddenly decide to participate in an after-school program, they may be able to quickly inform their parents about the use of their cell phones.

The endless technological advances these days have made cell phone use more common. First, computers and then cell phones significantly impact people’s lives. Therefore, we all need to educate our students and inform them of the benefits and benefits of using cell phones.

In my opinion, students have the right to bring their cell phones to school until the classroom is not disrupted. If they do, teachers may punish him. Sometimes, school phones do not work well and have very little value. If by the time most students need a phone, how will they be able to contact their parents? That’s why I think; students must be allowed to bring cell phones to school.

There may be situations where students plan to meet alone in other areas. If so, they will not be able to contact you by phone at school. With their cell phones, they can easily communicate with others. They could even use their cell phones as a counter flashlight at school.

Mobile phones help to increase mobility and flexibility between students and their parents. Students can use a cell phone for a Caffe, a library, a toilet, and anything else if that does not affect anyone else. If students need their parents to bring them something important to the school, cell phones will help students.

Allowing mobile phones in school does not mean that students have the opportunity to use mobile phones in any way. They should not spend time playing games on mobile phones at school. As a result, the school may introduce new rules such as whether students will need to put their cell phones in front of them or hand out their cell phones to teachers. If the phone rings or students need to call someone, teachers will give them phones.

Many schools in India do not have computers. Therefore, cell phones that are very useful for students can be used to learn a few things that should be taught on a computer. If a person forgets to bring his notebook, he can quickly take notes on his mobile phone.

There are also the adverse effects of cell phones, such as private games, obscene viewing of the toilet, etc. But school authorities must take action and make new rules for these things. Parents of learners should be kept informed of everything they do at school on their mobile phones. If these things are not done, mobile phones should be allowed to be used in school by students.
