The phrase ‘time is m oney’ is very commonly used. In modern times, this phrase implies well when seen in the present situations and the current state of society. Success or failure depends on the right use of time.

Time is very precious and valuable possession that a man can ever have. If time is utilized efficiently in present than it can be turned into money. One can never stop or have control over the time. Time neither shows pity to poor nor salutes the rich. It has its own influence and significance. Thus, once the time is gone, it never returns. Neither can it be saved. Time can only be used as an opportunity to maim progress in life.

It is usually listened from a few hardworking and dedicated people that as time is money, one must never waste it. Such people work very hard to achieve their goals. For them the entire day is very short to finish their work.

One can also find the kind of people who only sit and pass their time. Such people usually say that it is very hard to pass time. In fact, they do nothing and are not interested to earn a living. Therefore, it is proved that the person who uses time efficiently gains respect, status, money and high reputation in society. On the other hand, people who waste their time does nothing and are worthless. Time slips from their hands leaving them workless. They never understand the importance of utilizing time.

It is seen that many genius students put their greatest efforts in study and manage time to execute their plan for achieving success in the examination. By using time cleverly, they indirectly achieve higher ranks in their examination.

People have become rich and famous by making appropriate use of time. Professionals like doctors, engineers, writers, teachers, etc. know who to make best use of time. They work hard to earn money.

As we know how precious the time is, we should never waste time and utilize it to the best of our potentials. Every single moment of hard work definitely pays in the future. Thus, it is not wrong to say that ‘time is money’ is the father of all phrases.

The phrase “Time is money’ is very commonly used nowadays and is very true when seen in the present scenarios and the current state of the society and the market as a general example.

The economic shifts in terms of up’s and down’s are seen very drastically everyday. The economic shift and the stock market value increase and decrease are now seen to be seen basically dependent on the functionalities and the various working prowess of the people associated with the company. Where every employee contributes a huge sum towards the development of the company and this helps in the understanding of the fact that every single moment the employee works in the company contributes if not a large sum but at least a little sum for the development of the company and thus contributing a sum and thus can be said that every moment contributes a sum and thus the term -time is money.

समय चक्र की गति बड़ी अदभुत है । इसकी गति में अबादता है । समय का चक्र निरन्तर गतिशील रहता है रुकना इसका धर्म नहीं है ।

”मैं समय हूँ मैं किसी की प्रतीक्षा नहीं करता मैं निरन्तर गतिशील हूँ मेरा बीता हुआ एक भी क्षण लौट कर नही आता है । जिसने भी मेरा निरादर किया वह हाथ मलता रह जाता है । सिर धुन-धुन कर पछताता है । ”

समय के बारे में कवि की उपर्युक्त पंक्तियाँ सत्य हैं विश्व में समय सबसे अधिक महत्वपुर्ण एवं मूल्यवान धन माना गया है । यदि मनुष्य की अन्य धन संपति नष्ट हो जाए तो संभव है वह परिश्रम, प्रयत्न एवं संघर्ष से पुन: प्राप्त कर सकता है कितुं बीता हुआ समय वापस नहीं आता । इसी कारण समय को सर्वाधिक मूल्यवान धन मानकर उसका सदुपयोग करने की बात कही जाती है ।

समय कभी किसी की प्रतीक्षा नहीं करता । वह निरंतर गतिशील रहता है कुछ लोग यह कहकर हाथ पर हाथ धरे बैठे रहते हैं कि अभी समय अच्छा नहीं जब अच्छा समय आएगा तब कोई काम कर लेंगे । ऐसे लोग भूल जाया करते हैं कि समय आया नहीं करता वह तो निरंतर जाता रहता है और सरपट भगा जा रहा है ।

हम निरंतर कर्म करते रहकर ही उसे अच्छा बना सकते हैं । अच्छे कर्म करके, स्वयं अच्छे रहकर ही समय को अच्छा, अपने लिए प्रगतिशील एवं सौभाग्यशाली बनाया जा सकता है । उसके सिवाय अन्य कोई गति नहीं । अन्य सभी बाते तो समय को व्यर्थ गंवाने वाली ही हुआ करती हैं । और बुरे कर्म तथा बुरे व्यवहार अच्छे समय को भी बुरा बना दिया करते हैं ।

समय के सदुपयोग में ही जीवन की सफलता का रहस्य निहित है जो व्यक्ति समय का चक्र पहचान कर उचित ढंग से कार्य करें तो उसकी उन्नति में चार चाँद लग सकते हैं । कहते हैं हर आदमी के जीवन में एक न एक क्षण या समय अवश्य आया करता है कि व्यक्ति उसे पहचान-परख कर उस समय कार्य उपयोग करें तो कोई कारण नहीं कि उसे सफलता न मिल पाए ।

समय का सदुपयोग करने का अधिकार सभी को समान रूप से मिला है । किसी का इस पर एकाधिकार नहीं है । संसार में जितने महापुरुष हुए हैं वे सभी समय के सदुपयोग करने के कारण ही इस पर पहुँच सके हैं । काम को समय पर संपन्न करेना ही सफलता का रहस्य है ।

लोक-जीवन में कहावत प्रचलित है कि पलभर का चुका आदमी कोसों पिछड़ जाया करता है । उस उचित पथ को पहचान समय पर चल देने वाला आदमी अपनी मंजिल भी उचित एवं निश्चित रूप से पा लिया करता है । स्पष्ट है कि जो चलेगा वो तो कहीं न कहीं पहुँच पाएँगा । न चलने वाला मंजिल पाने के मात्र सपने ही देख सकता है, व्यवहार के स्तर पर उसकी परछाई का स्पर्श ही देख सकता है ।

• धन के अभाव में व्यक्ति की मृत्यु निश्चित है और यदि जीवित भी रहता है तो उसे बहुत से कष्टों का सामना करना पड़ता है। धन हमें सभी आवश्यक चीजों को खरीदने के योग्य बनाता है और पूरे जीवन भर हमारी मदद करता है। यदि हम जीवन में धन के महत्व को समझ जाए तो हमें कभी भी धन को बिना किसी उद्देश्य के व्यय या दुर्पोयोग नहीं करेंगे। हम धन और प्यार की तुलना नहीं कर सकते हैं, क्योंकि एक सफल जीवन जीने के लिए हमें धन और प्यार दोनों की ही आवश्यकता होती है।
• इस प्रतियोगी संसार में, अच्छी नौकरी प्राप्त करके धन कमाने के लिए प्रत्येक व्यक्ति प्रसिद्ध कालेज या विश्वविद्यालय से उच्च शिक्षा के साथ अच्छी पढ़ाई करना चाहता है। परिवार में सभी सदस्यों की आवश्यकता की पूर्ति के लिए एक व्यक्ति को अधिक धन कमाने की जरूरत होती है, विशेष रुप से उस व्यक्ति के लिए, जो परिवार में केवल अकेला कमाने वाला होता है।
• अपने परिवार के सभी सदस्यों की खाने, पहनने, और रहने की आवश्यकता की पूर्ति के लिए एक व्यक्ति को धन की आवश्यकता होती है। समाज में धनी व्यक्तियों की विशेष पहचान और प्रसिद्धि होती है हालांकि, गरीब लोग अपना जीवन एक दिन में केवल दो वक्त का भोजन प्राप्त करने में ही व्यतीत कर देते हैं। ये सभी परिवर्तन और अन्तर केवल धन के कारण ही है।

कलह का कारण

जिस भी घर में धन की कमी होती है वहां आये दिन लड़ाई-झगडे होते रहते है। पति-पत्नी में झगडे होते रहते है। न धन कमाने की दशा में कोई एक दूसरे की इज्जत नहीं करता। पड़ोसी तथा रिश्तेदार भी गरीब व्यक्ति को हेय दृष्टि से देखते है। उससे कतराने लगते है यह सोचकर कि कही वो व्यक्ति उससे धन न मांग ले। इसके साथ ही आज के समय में तो कोई गरीब व्यक्ति से दोस्ती भी नहीं करना चाहता।

धन न तो समय को खरीद सकता है और न ही रोक सकता है और साथ में न ही सच्चे प्यार तथा देखभाल को खरीद सकता है। लेकिन फिर भी इसकी सभी को आवश्यकता होती है, ताकि जीवन को सही रास्ते पर अग्रसित किया जा सके। भले ही धन समय और प्यार नहीं दे सकता लेकिन फिर हमें यह खुशी, आत्मविश्वास, सन्तुष्टि, शारीरिक और मानसिक शान्ति अवश्य प्रदान करता है। जिसके कारण हमें जीवन जीने में आसानी होती है और हरेक कठिन समस्या को सुलझाया जा सकता है।

निबंध 4 (600 शब्द) – धन से लाभ व नुकसान

अपने जीवन को सन्तुष्टि पूर्ण तरीके से जीने के लिए मनुष्य के लिए धन बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण वस्तु है। जिस प्रकार सभी स्थानों पर पेड़ और पशु पाए जाते हैं, उसी तरह हमें भी हर जगह धन की आवश्यकता होती है। समाज में रहने के लिए, हमें समाज में अपने पद और स्थिति को बनाए रखने के लिए धन की आवश्यकता होती है। खाना खाने या पानी पीने, कपड़े पहनने, स्कूल में प्रवेश लेने के लिए, दवा लेने के लिए या अस्पताल में इलाज कराने के लिए या फिर अन्य गतिविधियों के लिए, हमें बहुत अधिक धन की आवश्यकता होती है। अब यह सवाल उठता है कि, इस आवश्यक धन को कैसे प्राप्त किया जा सकता है। इसके लिए हमें उच्च स्तरीय पढ़ाई और कठिन मेहनत करनी पड़ती है ताकि, हमें अच्छी नौकरी प्राप्त हो सके या फिर हम अपना स्वयं का व्यवसाय खोले, जिसके लिए हमें अधिक कौशल और आत्मविश्वास की आवश्यकता होती है।

• सम्मान पूर्ण जीवन जी सकते है:

किसी व्यक्ति का सम्मान तभी होता है जब वो आर्थिक रुप से समृद्ध  होता है। नहीं तो आज के समाज में धनहीन व्यक्ति की कोई इज्जत नहीं है।

• शुद्ध और पौष्टिक भोजन खा सकते है:

जिनके पास धन है वो तरह-तरह के स्वादिष्ट और पौष्टिक भोजनों का आनंद ले सकते है। और खुद को बीमारियों से बचा सकते है।

• अपनी सुरक्षा की जा सकती है:

आजकल के समाज में चोरी, डकैती बहुत बढ़ गयी है और अमीर  व्यक्ति धन की वजह से अपने लिए सुरक्षा प्रदान कर सकते है।

• कर्ज चुकाया जा सकता है:

किसी व्यक्ति से लिया गए कर्ज  अमीर व्यक्ति बहुत ही आसानी से कर्ज चूका सकता है।

• भौतिक सुखों का भोग प्राप्त किया जा सकता है:

पर्याप्त मात्रा में धन होने पर सभी भौतिक सुखों का भोग किया जा सकता है जैसे अच्छा मकान लेना, अच्छे कपड़े, कारें और अन्य दूसरी चीजे।

अमीरों का गरीबों पर दबाव

पहले, अमीर लोगों के अधिक दबाव के कारण गरीबों की स्थिति बहुत ही दयनीय थी। वे गरीब लोगों की मदद नहीं करते थे और उन्हें बहुत ही कम वेतन पर केवल अपने नौकर की तरह प्रयोग करते थे। यद्यपि, अब सरकार के नए नियमों और कानूनों को लागू करने के कारण गरीबों की स्थिति में पहले की अपेक्षा कुछ सुधार अवश्य हुआ है, क्योंकि सरकार ने गरीबों की स्थिति में सुधार करने के लिए समानता के अधिकार को लागू किया है। अब सभी को उच्च शिक्षा प्राप्त करने और अच्छी नौकरी प्राप्त करने के लिए समान अवसर मिलता है। बहुत से लोग सोचते हैं कि, धन लोगों के मन में बुराई को जन्म देता है हालांकि, मैं ऐसा नहीं सोचता, क्योंकि सोच मानव शरीर की एक क्रिया है न कि धन की।

मैं समझता हूँ और मानता हूँ कि, धन खुशियों की बहुत महत्वपूर्ण चाबी है, जिसे भगवान द्वारा हमें उपहार में दिया गया है। यह मानव के मस्तिष्क पर निर्भर करता है कि, वह इसे किस तरीके से लेता है। कुछ लोग इसे केवल अपनी भौतिक आवश्यकताओं को पूरा करने के लिए प्रयोग करते हैं और वे इसे कभी भी दिल से नहीं लेते हालांकि, कुछ लोग धन को ही अपना सब कुछ मान लेते हैं और वे धन प्राप्त करने के लिए कुछ भी करने को तैयार होते हैं। इसकी प्राप्ति के लिए वे हत्या, चोरी, डकैती, भ्रष्टाचार, रिश्वत लेना आदि जैसे कोई भी आपराधिक कार्य कर सकते हैं।

T his spring , I went to see Chinatown in a theater for the first time since its release, on June 20, 1974. The movie was headlining at the annual TCM Classic Film Festival on Hollywood Boulevard. I was struck by how, after all these years, Chinatown looks both of its time and ahead of it. The film’s warning that unaccountable power was shaping our lives in ways we couldn’t understand very much reflected the political sensibility of the late ’60s and early ’70s. That mood produced a torrent of transformative laws under both Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon meant to intensify government oversight of business power (through environmental, consumer-protection, and workplace-safety regulation) and public oversight of government power (through campaign-finance reforms and other transparency measures). Yet the film’s tragic ending anticipated the likelihood that all of these reforms, despite the good they might do, would not remake a society in which those with wealth and power, like Cross, routinely roll over those without. The film’s script writer, Robert Towne, told me, when we spoke for my book Rock Me on the Water , that he viewed his theme as “the futility of good intentions.”

Trump, too, portrays the United States as a kind of Chinatown where unaccountable power is conspiring against everyday Americans. But Trump’s message to his audience is that he can tear it down on their behalf.

T he movie was immediately recognized as a landmark achievement. Chinatown is a complex story of personal and political corruption, involving murder, stolen water rights, and incest. Towne started writing Chinatown long before the Watergate scandal engulfed Nixon. Yet the atmosphere of official deceit that extended from the Vietnam War in Johnson’s presidency to the “dirty tricks” of Nixon’s permeated Towne’s story.

In Towne’s script, Chinatown was more a state of mind than a place. It symbolized the enigmatic nature of evil and the inability of even well-intentioned people (such as Nicholson’s Gittes) to pierce the hidden layers of power, the wheels within wheels turning far from view and understanding. Like America itself in the age of Vietnam and Watergate, Nicholson’s character knew less than he thought as he excavated the secrets of Dunaway’s Mulwray and her monstrous father, and he understood even less than he knew.

Like many movies from earlier eras, portions of Chinatown clang against changing sensibilities. The scene where Dunaway makes her big admission, as Nicholson repeatedly slaps her, was tough to watch then, and is tougher now. Nicholson’s mimicking of Asian accents at one point—though surely something Gittes would have done—grates, too. Polanski’s later exile, after he fled the U.S. in February 1978, having pleaded guilty to a charge of “unlawful sexual intercourse” with a 13-year-old girl, cast a retrospective pall on his undeniable cinematic accomplishments.

Yet the movie transcends the limitations of its time . Chinatown ’s creation unfolded in parallel with the Watergate scandal from the moment filming started, in October 1973. Nixon’s vice president, Spiro Agnew, who was facing corruption allegations from his years as Maryland’s governor, resigned almost exactly as Polanski shot the movie’s first scene. What became known as the Saturday-night massacre , when Nixon fired Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox and provoked the first real consideration of impeachment, followed just a few weeks later. The real-life conspiracy loomed over Towne’s fictional one.

“When I was shooting the film, I was amazed sometimes, listening to the news programs, by the parallels between what I was hearing and what I was shooting,” Polanski said in a press interview at the time.

The resonance was not lost on others. When Chinatown came out, Newsweek described it as a “Watergate with real water” and recognized that “this is really a story about the decadence of the 1970s.” On the Chinatown shoot, Watergate “enveloped all of us,” Hawk Koch, the film’s assistant director, told me. “We were thrilled to be doing the movie because of what it was about.” Little more than a month after the film’s release, the House Judiciary Committee voted to approve the articles of impeachment that prompted Nixon’s resignation in early August.

Chinatown remains on the shortlist of greatest movies not to win the Academy Award for Best Picture; it was beaten by another classic released that year, The Godfather Part II , which explored similar themes of public and private corruption. Both were part of the early-’70s wave of socially conscious movies that revitalized Hollywood after a long period of decline. These films differed in tone, style, and message, but the most important of them shared a mission to illuminate America’s failures and delusions. Although they rarely exhibited any overt political agenda, they aligned with a progressive belief that exposing the misdeeds of business and government could produce a more democratic society that would wrest power from unaccountable elites and give average Americans a greater say.

Now the passage of half a century has produced the irony that the distrust of institutions, which took root in America after the ’60s, has been most effectively marshaled by Trump. He has shown a unique ability to channel it behind a right-wing strongman agenda that promises to smash the restraints of custom, law, and democracy to deliver “retribution” against all the shadowy elites that he says are oppressing his followers.

O nly a few years earlier , there was little chance that any of the Hollywood studios would have released a film as dark as Chinatown . Although the anti-Communist blacklist that exiled some of the industry’s brightest lights had slowly lifted in the late ’50s, Hollywood still seemed shell-shocked and tentative until well into the ’60s. It responded to the sexual revolution with cotton-candy, Doris Day–style comedies that seemed lame even in Dwight Eisenhower’s presidency. Soon, protesters were marching for civil rights and against the war, students were clashing with police on university campuses, and cities were burning with riots, yet Hollywood stubbornly looked back for inspiration, releasing a procession of World War II movies, Westerns, musicals, and, above all, gargantuan historical epics. Like the three TV networks in those years, Hollywood remained unwaveringly, even defiantly, disconnected from the social and political changes that the rising Baby Boom generation was bringing to American life.

For the film industry, the turning point came in 1967. Bonnie and Clyde , directed by Arthur Penn and starring Dunaway and Warren Beatty gave a modern countercultural sheen to the Depression-era outlaws. Mike Nichols’s The Graduate (starring Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft), scathingly captured the Boomers’ hope for a life of greater meaning and authenticity than their parents’ generation was offering (the career advice Hoffman’s character receives: “Plastics!”). Two years later, in 1969, the huge success of Easy Rider —the story of Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda as two nomadic, drug-dealing motorcyclists murdered by small-town rednecks—demonstrated the financial rewards of producing films that moved younger audiences.

The studios’ new appetite for contemporary films that appealed to this demographic created the economic foundation for a creative renaissance in Hollywood—and a succession of films that memorably portrayed America as adrift and rotting from within, a nation not only deceived by its leaders but deluded by its most cherished myths. So many compelling movies were released in these years that critics have called 1967–76 Hollywood’s “silver age,” after its 1938–46 golden age. Chinatown immediately claimed a top spot in the silver-age pantheon.

The idea that would grow into the movie came to Towne when he was laid up for several weeks with vertigo around Christmas 1969. He read an article in the Los Angeles Times ’s Old West magazine titled “Raymond Chandler’s L.A.,” which recounted how much of the landscape described in those ’40s detective novels remained intact a quarter century later. The idea struck Towne that it would be possible to film a detective movie set in the Los Angeles of the ’30s on location around the city.

The movie’s central metaphor came from a Los Angeles Police Department vice detective who sold Towne a sheepdog named Hira. After the cop told Towne that he worked in Chinatown, the writer asked what he did there. “Probably as little as possible,” the cop said. How’s that? Towne asked. “Look, you can’t tell what’s going on, because we can’t crack the language,” the officer said. “There’s so many dialects and things like that, we can’t tell, frankly, if we’re helping prevent a crime or helping somebody commit one, and so the best thing to do is nothing.” As Towne told me, “And that was the origin of the significance of Chinatown.” In Towne’s script, Gittes repeats that line almost verbatim when Evelyn Mulwray asks him what he did in Chinatown when he worked for the DA. “As little as possible,” Nicholson replies.

Still, the words did not come easily for Towne. “No script ever drove me nuttier,” Towne later recalled. When he finally delivered a draft, in early 1973, it was a 180-page behemoth that perplexed the executives at Paramount. It also failed to satisfy Polanski, who had been hired to direct. Polanski was living in Rome and initially resisted returning to Los Angeles, where the Manson family had murdered his wife, Sharon Tate, only four years earlier. He feared returning to a city “where every street corner reminded me of tragedy.”

Polanski and Towne spent eight weeks over the spring and summer of 1973 contentiously rewriting the script. Once filming started, the movie progressed on a brisk if bumpy trajectory. Tiny and tousle-haired, Polanski was an autocrat accustomed to dictating every detail of a scene, including every aspect of an actor’s performance. Nicholson, fluid and supremely self-confident, rolled with Polanski’s style, finding his edicts more amusing than threatening. But Polanski clashed with the tightly wound Dunaway. “They were at loggerheads a lot—over anything,” recalls Anthea Sylbert, a celebrated costume designer who handled those duties on Chinatown .

The movie’s ending was the greatest point of dispute between Polanski and Towne. Towne wanted a more bittersweet ending, but Polanski insisted on rewriting the finale with a conclusion as brutal as the drop of a guillotine. Dunaway’s Mulwray is shot and killed by the police as she tries to escape with her daughter. As Gittes turns to lunge at the police lieutenant who directed the shooting, an associate pulls him away and delivers the film’s unforgettable concluding line: “Forget it, Jake; it’s Chinatown.”

Gittes had precipitated the tragedy through his overconfidence. “You may think you know what you’re dealing with,” Huston’s Cross had warned him earlier, “but believe me, you don’t.”

Chinatown ’s final moments anticipated a world just coming into focus as the production completed. “What was happening with Evelyn Mulwray,” Towne told me, was much like “what was happening in the country. You don’t know what’s going on.” Towne painted a morally bleak world in his script for Chinatown , and Polanski made it even bleaker. Even they, though, could not have envisioned a future in which millions of Americans would willingly entrust their fate to Trump, a man as coldly amoral as Noah Cross.

The 2,100-mile border separating India and China passes through some of the world’s most inhospitable terrain. In the west, it runs along India’s Ladakh region, at an altitude of 13,000 to 20,000 feet. During the months when the area isn’t covered in snow, the ground resembles a moonscape. The earth is sandy, strewn with rocks and pebbles; not a blade of grass grows anywhere; there are no visible signs of animal life. In winter, temperatures can drop to –40 degrees. The bleak conditions and barren vistas can induce despair in those who set foot on the land. “I’ve been to those places,” a former Indian diplomat who now works for an international Buddhist organization in Delhi told me. “When you visit, you tend to think, Who the hell even wants this area?”

But that’s not how nation-states view territory, no matter how desolate it is. That is why India and China have their armies deployed on these heights along an unmarked and, in many places, contested boundary between the two countries. In the absence of any fencing or barbed wire to demarcate territory, soldiers from each nation contend with considerable ambiguity when conducting patrols along what’s known as the Line of Actual Control. Vinod Bhatia, who served as director general of military operations for the Indian Army and is now retired, describes it as a line of perceptions.

“It’s four lines, actually,” he told me when I visited Delhi last year. “One is the Indian perception of the Line of Actual Control. Another is the Chinese perception of the Line of Actual Control. Third is the Indian perception of the Chinese perception of the Line of Actual Control — because we have a perception based on their line of patrolling. And the fourth is, of course, the Chinese perception of the Indian perception of the Line of Actual Control.”

This lack of clarity means that there are several places along the border that are effectively a no-man’s land, where both Indian and Chinese troops carry out patrols. Soldiers from each side routinely leave empty cigarette packets and beer cans behind as marks of territorial claim. At the same time, soldiers on each side are legally bound to exercise restraint during patrols, according to a 1996 agreement between the two countries that prohibits the use of firearms and munitions at the border.

When units from the two sides run into one another, they follow a mutually agreed upon protocol to avoid confrontation. “We pull out a banner that says in English and in Chinese: ‘You are in our territory. Please go back,’” Bhatia told me. “And they hold up a banner of their own that says in Hindi and in English: ‘You are in our territory. You go back.’”
