You might also choose to use a direct quote - \"exact words in a reference\" - or you might summarise, which is describing the findings of an entire source or section in your own words. If you take notes this way while researching, it will help you form your ideas, sentences, and paragraphs when you write your first draft.
• Save yourself some time - if you read something relevant, make a note right away . You might keep it in a \"research journal\" book or digital document, with correctly formatted references, dates accessed, and a brief note on what it relates to. This will save you a lot of time later!
• Remember those notes you took while reading? Now you can put them in an order that makes sense.
• Take notes to suit the type of structure you need to follow.
• Whether you are typing or writing, one method is to start with headlines - for example, by argument, by topic, by idea - and group the notes you made this way.
• Use your own words, using language that your teacher expects.
• Use evidence, properly.
• A draft isn't perfect! Try to write everything down first. Then, try to focus on developing those notes into organised paragraphs, based on the structure you need to follow.

You can upload your assessment to Turnitin when you are submitting it in MyLO . You can also upload a draft, so you can edit your assessment before final submission, by following the below steps:

• Log into MyLO
• Go to the 'Discover Course Catalog' (you can also find this in the 'My Units' section)
• Search for 'Turnitin and Academic Writing Unit' 
• Click enrol (or it may say 'open course')
• Once you are in the module - go to 'Assignments' in the header menu.
• From here you select 'Turnitin Comparison Upload Service' 
• Scroll to the bottom of the page and select 'Add a File' to upload your assessment, then click 'Submit'.

APA 7th edition

What is apa style.

APA style  is a referencing method developed by the American Psychological Association and is a version of the commonly used  Author-Date system . 

This guide is based on the official APA website and the following text:

Which style does my School use? 

Some Schools or individual units require a different style from the one outlined here. Always use the citation style required by your lecturer. If in doubt, check your unit outline, in MyLO, or ask your lecturer or tutor.

In-text citations direct the reader to the Reference List to view the full details of the source.

When paraphrasing, In-text citations can be included as:

1. Parenthetical citations - by inserting the author and date in parentheses, usually at the end of a sentence, e.g....opportunity and economy are two factors that may have influenced changes in parental roles (Bomar, 2004).

2. Narrative citations - by incorporating the name of the author, followed by the date enclose in parentheses into the text of the paper, e.g. Sternberg (1993) suggests results should be carefully analysed...

Multiple authors

Multiple works.

When citing multiple works in parentheses, arrange the citations in alphabetical order and separate them with semicolons, e.g.

(Citizen, 2019; Jones, 1999; Smith, 2001)

Multiple works can be arranged in any order when they are incorporated into the text of the paper (narrative citation).

• Page numbers are always included for direct quotations e.g. (Hiebert, 2009, p. 69).
• When the quote is 40 words or less d irect quotations should be placed within the text and surrounded by double quotation marks, e.g.  "we cannot possibly know and understand the culture of every individual and community we might encounter throughout the course of our careers" (Mkandawire-Valhmu, 2018, p. 24).
• When the quote is more than 40 words, direct quotations should be started on a new line and indented from the left margin, without quotation marks, e.g.

In an era of globalization, a healthcare provider needs to be prepared for encounters for people of diverse backgrounds and experiences. The culturally safe healthcare provider needs to have a deep understanding of where people have been and what they have experienced in their countries of origin. (Mkandawire-Valhmu, 2018, p. 73)

Reference Lists

A reference list is placed at the end of your paper. It contains the full details of all the references cited in the text of your paper. These details should be sufficient for the reader to be able to identify and locate the sources.

• CDC's Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG) is a groundbreaking investment supporting critical public health infrastructure.
• The goal is to support health departments across the United States.
• One hundred and seven health departments and three national public health partners received funding through this 5-year grant (12/1/2022 - 11/30/2027)
• The purpose is to implement activities that strengthen public health outcomes.
• PHIG is a funding model that gives health departments the flexibility to direct funds towards specific organizational and community needs.

In January 2024, CDC awarded $4.35 billion through the Public Health Infrastructure Grant ( OE22-2203: Strengthening U.S. Public Health Infrastructure, Workforce, and Data Systems ) to help U.S. health departments promote and protect health in their communities.

The total award includes $4.01 billion for health departments and $340 million for three national public health partners.

CDC expects to award more than $5 billion over the 5-year grant period. This includes $4.01 billion for health departments and $340 million for three national public health partners.

The purpose is to create a stronger, more resilient public health system that is ready to face future health threats.

Recipient Health Department Profiles‎

Funding recipients.

Funding was awarded to:

• One hundred seven (107) public health departments in all 50 states, Washington D.C., 8 territories/freely associated states, and 48 large localities (cities serving a population of 400,000 or more and counties serving a population of 2,000,000 or more based on the 2020 U.S. Census). Award amounts were based on a funding formula that included population size and community resilience. As of January 2024, a total of $4.01 billion for health departments [$3.685 billion in fiscal year (FY)23 and $325 million in FY24] has been awarded. Recipient-specific information is provided on the Health Department Profiles .
• Three national partners that support the work of the 107 funded health departments. The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) , National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) , and Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) received a total of $340 million ($155 million in FY23 and $185 million in FY24) . These organizations provide training and technical assistance, evaluate the program, and facilitate coordination and communication across recipients and CDC.

Strategies and outcomes

The three strategies of this grant are Workforce, Foundational Capabilities, and Data Modernization. Recipients are expected to achieve several key outcomes by the end of the 5-year performance period (see image below). Ultimately, this grant will lead to accelerated prevention, preparedness, and response to emerging health threats. Improved outcomes in other public health areas are also anticipated.

All work done as part of this grant is grounded in three key principles:

• Data and evidence drive planning and implementation.
• Partnerships play a critical role in grant program success.
• Resources are directed to support diversity and health equity.

New York Yankees fans should be excited about the club right now.

New York has been one of the top teams in baseball so far this season and could get even better. The Yankees already have been mentioned in trade rumors for numerous players, but they don't even need to make a deal in order to get better.

The Yankees have dealt with a handful of high-impact injuries already this season and should get important reinforcements back soon. New York's rotation will get a boost when Gerrit Cole is ready to return and fellow All-Star D.J. LeMahieu also is nearing a return from the Injured List.

They aren't the only injured Yankees who could help the big league club at some point, though. Top prospect Jasson Domínguez currently is taking part in a rehab assignment after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Many have wondered if he would return right to the big league club once his rehab assignment was up, but that won't be the case, according to NJ.com's Randy Miller.

"The Yankees already know what they’ll do with No. 1 prospect Jasson Domínguez once his 20-day rehab assignment is up on June 4," Miller said. "He’ll be optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and not rejoin the Yankees as a starting center fielder or bench player. Not right away. Maybe not even this season."

This makes a lot of sense. New York is loaded offensively right now and there is no need to rush Domínguez from such a tough injury. That doesn't mean he won't see time in the majors this season, but it will be at least a little while.

If he can get fully up to speed with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, it wouldn't be surprising to see him called up later in the season. He is going to be an important piece with New York for the foreseeable future so it makes sense to make sure he is fully ready before putting him in front of Major League Baseball pitching again.

He is making progress and that should be a positive sign for Yankees fans in general.

U.S. tells Israel: Connect Gaza operation to political strategy

National security adviser Jake Sullivan met Benjamin Netanyahu as war cabinet member Benny Gantz threatens to quit over the lack of a postwar plan for Gaza.

U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan reaffirmed to senior Israeli officials Sunday a need for the government to “connect its military operations [in Gaza] to a political strategy” to ensure a lasting defeat of Hamas , a complete hostage release and a better future for the enclave, the White House said.

Sullivan, who met in Israel with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi, also proposed “a series of concrete measures” to ensure more aid enters Gaza, the White House said in a statement , and discussed steps for a more effective system to protect humanitarian workers delivering that aid.

Sullivan traveled to Israel after meeting in Saudi Arabia with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The pair “reviewed the strategic relations between the two countries,” the state-run Saudi Press Agency said , and discussed needs for more humanitarian aid in Gaza and a path to a two-state solution for Palestinians.

The Biden administration is eager to complete a deal with Saudi Arabia that would cool regional tensions — but it’s unclear what form it might take. U.S. officials once hoped for a regional deal in which Saudi Arabia would recognize Israel and that would include a Palestinian state. But as negotiations for a cease-fire in Gaza have faltered, so, too, have hopes of a larger diplomatic settlement.

Netanyahu opposes Palestinian statehood, but he has not identified an alternative that would allow Israeli forces to secure military gains on the ground in Gaza and eventually withdraw from the territory. Some Arab countries have suggested that a Palestinian unity government should assume responsibility for security in Gaza, but after Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas refused to step down, plans to revamp the authority also appeared to have stalled.

Netanyahu faces an ultimatum from war cabinet member Benny Gantz that threatens to destabilize his fragile coalition government. Gantz warned Saturday that he would resign from the cabinet if it was unable to draft and approve a postwar plan for Gaza, including the return of hostages, the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip and an alternative to Hamas rule, by June 8. Netanyahu said Gantz’s demands would mean a defeat for Israel and an end to the war, Israeli media reported.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), speaking before Israel’s parliament Sunday, criticized President Biden for blocking arms deliveries to Israel and called on Washington to supply whatever is necessary for the Israeli military “to achieve total victory.”

“There is no excuse for an American president to block aid to Israel,” she said. Biden’s threat this month to halt U.S. offensive weapons to Israel if it moves ahead with its invasion of Rafah drew GOP criticism. In her speech, Stefanik presented the Republican Party as the true allies of Israel, and described Israel’s offensive against Hamas as a “just war.”

Stefanik also praised the policies of former president Donald Trump , including decisions to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and to cut off funding to the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).

Here’s what to know

The Israel Defense Forces said it was continuing its multiday operation in Jabalya, a refugee camp in northern Gaza. Doctors working at al-Awda Hospital there said that Israeli troops were surrounding the facility. “We are now totally besieged,” Bakr Abusafeya told The Washington Post on Sunday. He said that hospital staff were unable to leave the facility out of fear they might be attacked “by drones that are firing at every moving object.” The IDF said in response that “we cannot comment as to the location of our forces.” World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called the situation “deeply worrisome.”

An Israeli airstrike struck a house in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, killing at least 31 people , according to Mahmoud Bassal, a spokesman for Gaza’s civil defense responders. At least 20 people were injured in the attack, he said, with searches ongoing. The IDF told The Post that it was operating in the camp to dismantle Hamas capabilities and that it “follows international law and takes feasible precautions to mitigate civilian harm.” Its statement did not mention reports of casualties.

Nearly 800,000 Palestinians have been forced to flee Rafah since May 6 after Israel launched a military operation, Philippe Lazzarini , the head of UNRWA, said Saturday. The designated humanitarian zones, he said, are ill-equipped to handle the influx. “No place is safe. No one is safe,” he added.

The IDF said it recovered the body of Israeli hostage Ron Benjamin , who was killed during the Oct. 7 Hamas attack and whose body was subsequently taken to Gaza. Benjamin, 53, was a father of two and was out for a bicycle ride with friends near Kibbutz Beeri when he was killed, the IDF said. On Friday, the IDF said it recovered the bodies of three more hostages in Gaza: Shani Louk, 22; Amit Esther Bouskila, 28; and Itzhak Gelerenter, 58. The three were killed on Oct. 7, it said.

At least 35,456 people have been killed and 79,476 injured in Gaza since the war began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry , which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants but says the majority of the dead are women and children. Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack, including more than 300 soldiers, and says 282 soldiers have been killed since the launch of its military operation in Gaza.
