SATs Papers

Download SATs papers for free.

SATs papers are national curriculum tests used by schools to assess children's academic progress. SATs tests are taken in both primary school and secondary school, at the end of Year 2 , Year 6 and Year 9 . SATs are a blend of exams and teacher assessments .

Past SATs Papers

Past SATs papers are real SATs tests that were published and used in previous years. These past papers have been used for many years in schools to help prepare pupils for their upcoming SATs.

Real SATs papers are provided to schools as printed documents but thankfully, SATs past papers are available to download.

Use these SATs papers at home for private study and mark them using the mark schemes (answers). Then, check the scaled scores (or level thresholds) and see whether your child has reached the expected standard .

Past KS2 SATs are great to practice with

KS2 SATs Papers

At the end of Year 6 , children take Key Stage 2 SATs papers ( KS2 SATs ) in English Reading, Maths, Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GaPS). Children may also take a Year 6 SATs paper in Science and a teacher assessment in Writing .

KS1 SATs Papers

At the end of Year 2 , children take Key Stage 1 SATs papers ( KS1 SATs ) in English Reading, Maths and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GaPS). Children will also take a separate writing test.

KS1 SATs are given to children in Year 2

Download SATs Past Papers

You can download all past SATs papers from our website. Whether you're a parent or a teacher you can use our website to download old SATs papers for free and help prepare children for their real SATs exams .

SATs-Papers.co.uk is the most popular SATs website in the world.

Using SATs Papers at Home

While these SATs papers are frequently used at school and with private tutors, we encourage parents to use them at home too.

Teachers often use SATs Papers in the classroom too

Choosing the right SATs Papers

If your child is in Year 6 then you should use KS2 SATs papers . If your child is in Year 2 then you need to download KS1 SATs papers .

How to use SATs Papers

Download past sats papers.

Download the SATs papers that are appropriate for your pupil's age. You need to download the English Reading , Maths and Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling papers along with their answers. For some papers, you will also need to download the guidance notes.

It's best to start with the most recent SATs papers, the 2022 SATs Papers .

The 2022 SATs include all the core assessments (such as reading comprehension, mental arithmetic and short-answer grammar questions) as well as roman numerals, spelling and plenty more.

Ensure you download SATs papers from 2016 onwards as those that came before used the previous specification national curriculum (pre- 2014 "new national curriculum"). Hence there may be questions that your children don't understand.

Don't forget that the 2021 and 2020 SATs papers are not available as those two tests were cancelled.

You may also want to download the separate Science SATs papers . Science is normally tested as an informal teacher assessment. However, every two years a random selection of schools take a written Science exam to help monitor standards.

Print SATs Papers

All of the SATs papers you download will then need to be printed using an A4 printer.

It's important to print past SATs papers

Check Timings

When pupils attempt to take a SATs paper, it's important that they sit it for the correct exam time so check this first as each paper is different. Use a timer to ensure pupils sit the assessment for the correct amount of time.

Equipment Check

Your child will need a pen though we recommend a pencil and rubber for easier corrections. The Maths SATs papers also require children to have a ruler, a protractor and a small, hand-sized mirror.

Take the SATs Test

Give your child the SATs paper, the stationery, a desk and a peaceful room free from distractions for the correct amount of time.

Check the stationery requirements before starting a test

Mark the SATs Paper

After your child completes their test, you will need to mark it using the appropriate mark scheme.

Check Scaled Score

Once you have finished marking their papers, check their marks against the scaled scores (or level thresholds) to see whether they have reached the expected standard.

Download the appropriate SATs papers for your child.

Print them on A4 paper.

Check each SATs paper for how long your child should spend on it.

Check the stationery requirements.

Let your child take the SATs tests .

Check the scaled scores.

Why use SATs past papers?

SATs can be stressful for all involved. The best way to help tackle any potential anxieties is for children to feel familiar and comfortable with the challenges they face. We want children to feel confident!

Practice for KS2 SATs to help avoid exam stress

SATs past papers are the fastest way to help prepare children for their real SATs tests. By using past papers , parents can check their children's progress before they take their real SATs papers.

We recommend downloading and working through plenty of past SATs papers . Use our SATs papers to help children prepare for their SATs and teacher assessments.

Every past SATs paper is bursting with valuable SATs style questions. These questions provide ample practice for children preparing for the KS2 SATs or KS1 SATs .

Our site provides free downloads of all SATs papers together with their answers. We encourage parents to use them to help prepare their children.

Why Prepare for KS2 SATs?

KS2 SATs in Year 6 are especially challenging tests and represent the final exam of children's primary education. Their SATs results go on to form government school league tables so they're a big deal. Download tests from 2016 onwards to ensure your child receives the right questions using the new national curriculum .

As well as using past SATs papers, parents should use our free Online SATs Tests . These multiple-choice tests in English and Maths are really useful for preparing towards the 2024 SATs .

You'll find ample SATs English papers with plenty of comprehension questions to test children's comprehension skills on our website. We also host all past writing tests for creative writing practice at home.

Lastly, ensure you take a look at our informal SATs help guide, our free guide to SATs Revision and our 12 Crucial SATs Tips for success in the 2024 KS2 SATs.

Why Prepare for KS1 SATs?

KS1 SATs will be your child's first 'proper' written tests. It's a good idea to help them practice at home so they know what to expect. Download papers from 2016 onwards (including the 2016 sample papers ) for the most relevant SATs questions.

Alternatively, buy some mock SATs for Year 2 from retailers that sell KS1 SATs practise tests.

Sats classroom revision guides for Year 6

Added 15 Apr 2024 | Updated 16 Apr 24

SATS reading resource

This resource prepares Year 6 pupils for the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum Assessment reading paper and the English grammar, punctuation and spelling papers. It is designed to be used flexibly - as a refresher for teachers planning their revision or directly as a revision tool with pupils.

It can be used with the whole class or in small groups.

Year 6 Sats reading paper revision guide

This resource gives pupils top tips and guidance on the five main domains tested – retrieval, vocabulary (word meaning), inference, summarising and prediction. Past examples of extracts and questions are used from 2018-2023 papers - you'll need to prepare ahead for each session by printing out the reading extracts for pupils from the listed Appendices.

The resource includes five PowerPoint presentations (each roughly equivalent to a one-hour revision session) to ensure your pupils are fully prepared for the types of questions that will be asked in the reading paper and equipped with the skills they need to answer them effectively. Topics covered include:

Sats companion Test Papers for KS2

Pupils at Asquith Primary find SATs Companion Fun & Engaging “Pupils found the platform easy to navigate and really enjoyed , and benefitted from seeing their answers and scores straight away – the children in my class were able to set themselves targets and ask for help in areas they struggled with before I had even looked at the scores myself – many took it upon themselves to watch the helpful videos and then redo the activity – this is an excellent feature. This year, we have decided to use SATs companion again as well as extending it to some of our year 5 pupils –  we would recommend it to other schools .”
Great Easton School uses SATs Companion for Targeted Activities “We have used SATs Companion since January 2018, I’ve found it useful in supplementing and supporting children’s learning outside the classroom through the videos. The analysis tools show clearly who can do what and any areas which need more input so that activities can be targeted on that. We were very pleased with our 2018 SATs results, and using SATs Companion definitely benefitted our children in preparing for them.”
SATs Companion’s Positive Impact at Hugh Myddelton School “SATs Companion has been extremely useful at Hugh Myddelton as children are able to revise and practise SATs style questions both at home and at school. It has had a r eal impact on the positive data we have achieved in the past few years. This is because it links so closely with our classroom practice and real SATs style questions. It it is the only digital resource I have used to support children in their understanding of SATs and to support in their attainment that is so closely linked to year 6 style questions.”
SATs Companion Reduces Teacher Workload at Lea Forest “SATS Companion is easy to access for both teachers and pupils – the children were able to use the programme independently straight away.We liked to use SATS Companion as a revision tool because there are a wide range of question types. It eased our work load as it meant less time preparing questions .By including SATS Companion tasks in our daily timetable, our children were able to focus and complete revision activities , gaining instant feedback and bolstering their confidence .”

When are year 6 SATs 2024? Key dates for parents and pupils

When are SATs

Year 6 pupils in England will soon be taking the key stage 2 (KS2) national curriculum tests, which are often referred to as SATs.

The assessments are used to measure school performance and to make sure individual pupils are being supported in the best way possible as they move into secondary school .

When are SATs?

This year, SATs will take place over four days from 13 May to 16 May 2024.

The timetable is as follows:

What are the tests on?

While pupils won’t be able to see what’s on the test beforehand, t he assessments only include questions on things that children should already have been taught as part of the national curriculum.

You can find past papers on GOV.UK .

As usual, there won’t be a test for English writing or science. Instead, this will be reported as a teacher assessment judgement.

This is a judgement teachers will make based on your child’s work at the end of KS2.

Does my child need to revise for SATs?

Children shouldn’t be made to feel any unnecessary pressure when it comes to the KS2 assessments and t eachers will make sure that all pupils in their class are prepared.

You should follow their general advice about supporting your child’s education throughout the year and ahead of the tests.

While it is statutory for schools to hold the assessments, headteachers make the final decision about whether a pupil participates in them.

Some pupils – for example those with special education needs or disabilities – may be assessed under different arrangements if these are more appropriate.

If you have concerns about your child participating in the KS2 tests, you should speak to your school in the first instance.

What if my child finds the SATs tests too difficult?

It’s important to remember that one of the purposes of the key stage 2 assessments is to identify each pupil's strengths and the areas where they may have fallen behind in their learning as they head into secondary school.

The results will help their new school determine in which areas your child needs the most support.

The tests are designed to be challenging to measure attainment, including stretching the most able children. It means some pupils will find them harder than others.

It takes three years to create appropriate tests. During the process, they’re rigorously trialled with year 6 pupils and reviewed by education and inclusion experts to make sure they’re the right difficulty level.

The Standards and Testing Agency (STA) is responsible for developing the tests, and Ministers don't have any influence on their content.

When will we find out the results of SATs?

Schools will receive test results on Tuesday 9 July 2024.

Before the end of the summer term, your child’s school will send you a report which will include test results and teacher assessment judgements.

This should provide you with a good sense of the standard at which your child is working in each subject.

The school will report your child’s test results as a scaled score for each subject. This is created from the number of marks your child scores in a particular test. A scaled score:

  • below 100 means that your child may need more support to help them reach the expected standard;
  • of 100 or more means that your child is working at, or above, the expected standard for the key stage.

If your child is working below the overall standard of the key stage, or they have special educational needs, reporting will be different, and you should speak to your child’s teacher for more information.

You can also find more information about  results at the end of key stage 2  on GOV.UK.

Maria Georgas reveals she 'had to decline' becoming the next 'Bachelorette' lead

reading sats homework

After more than a month of speculation within Bachelor Nation, "Bachelor" Season 28 finalist Maria Georgas is confirming the rumor that she turned down "The Bachelorette."

Georgas, a 29-year-old executive assistant from Ontario, Canada, who was introduced as one of 32 women vying for Joey Graziadei 's heart earlier this year, sat down with Alex Cooper of " Call Her Daddy " on the podcast's Wednesday episode to open up about her dating life and her experience on " The Bachelor ."

"I was offered the role. It was mine until I said it wasn’t," she said. "It became very overwhelming to the point where I had to decline."

"I just was not ready," Georgas added.

Cooper revealed that last month, Georgas was supposed to come on the podcast to promote her announcement as the next "Bachelorette."

USA TODAY has reached out to ABC for comment.

Every year, producers and studio executives speak with multiple potential candidates – usually contestants from the most recent season – who might become the next "Bachelor" or "Bachelorette" lead.

On March 25, after Graziadei's engagement to Kelsey Anderson was revealed in "The Bachelor's" finale, the franchise announced Jenn Tran , a 26-year-old physician assistant student from Miami, Florida, would be the next "Bachelorette" lead . She will be the first Asian American in the role in the show's 22-year history.

Missed it? Here's what happened during the 'Bachelor' finale

Maria Georgas says she 'wasn't mentally prepared for' 'The Bachelorette'

Georgas went into detail about why moving forward with "The Bachelorette" wasn't in her best interest.

"When everyone around me was so supportive of me being in this position and everyone wanted this for me, I took a second. I’m like, why am I not happy? Why am I not excited about this?" she said. "It took me realizing that it’s just not my time, (and) I was like, 'Guys, respectfully, I need to decline. I need to take a step back.' I was not in the right headspace for this."

Georgas indicated doing the show would not be best for her mental health, especially given that she had a hard time while filming Graziadei's season.

"What people saw on their screens was only the half of what I went through in the house," she said, alluding to the conflicts she had with a few of the other contestants. "I was so anxious throughout the whole thing."

She continued, "It's so isolating being in there. And I would have to give up my phone (and) my freedom — not my freedom, but having to be alone in that, I just wasn’t comfortable. I wasn’t mentally prepared for it."

A mystery explained: Why 'The Bachelor' blurred out Maria Georgas' Canadian flag

Maria Georgas says Jenn Tran is 'the perfect pick' for 'The Bachelorette'

The reality TV star, however, could not be happier with Tran being the show's next lead.

"Jenn, though, was the perfect pick," Georgas told Cooper. "She is the most perfect bachelorette in my eyes. I couldn’t think of anyone better to do this. She was so ready for it, and that was enough for me to kind of say, 'Yeah, it’s not my time.'"

'The Bachelor' made them famous. But it also inspired Clayton Echard, Chelsea Vaughn and others to seek therapy

As for her future in the franchise, it seems that, for now, fans shouldn't expect to see her on another "Bachelor" show anytime soon.

She's "so single," but there's "no 'Paradise'" in her future, referring to ABC's summer spinoff show "Bachelor in Paradise."
