Longlegs Trailer: The FBI Searches For Nicolas Cage's Deeply Disturbed Killer In New Horror Movie

10 biggest unanswered questions & mysteries outer range season 3 needs to solve, star wars teases a crucial jedi romance in this brand-new book excerpt from temptation of the force.

T-Mobile   has a few different plans for people to choose from , but at the heart of the company's wireless offerings is T-Mobile Magenta. Here's a closer look at how much T-Mobile Magenta costs, what's included with it, and whether or not it's actually a good deal.

Certain phone carriers have more confusing plan options than others. In the case of T-Mobile, its lineup is one of the easiest to make sense of. There are three core plan offerings available, including Essentials, Magenta, and Magenta MAX. Essentials is the most barebones option, Magenta MAX includes as many features as possible for folks willing to pay for it, and the regular Magenta plan sits right in the middle between both of them. It's often seen as the best mix of features and value for most people, but is that really the case?

Related:  Is T-Mobile 55+ A Good Deal? What You Need To Know

Per T-Mobile's website , pricing for its Magenta plan works out as follows. For one line of service, Magenta costs $70/month. That's a pretty hefty amount on its own, but savings are quickly seen as more lines are added. Two lines of service cost $120/month,  3 lines also go for $120/month, 4 lines of service can be had for $140/month, and 5 lines will set someone back $160/month. Getting 4 or 5 lines of Magenta on a single account is the best deal, as each line comes down to just $35 or $32/month, respectively, for each line. Unlike most other carriers , all of these prices include taxes/fees. If someone signs up for 4 lines of Magenta, they'll pay exactly $140/month and not a penny more.

Everything You Get With T-Mobile Magenta

Regardless if someone has 1, 2, or 5 lines of service of T-Mobile Magenta, the perks that come with it are pretty fantastic. At its core, T-Mobile Magenta includes unlimited talk, text, and 4G LTE/5G data — 100GB of which is Premium Data (data that isn't subject to speed throttling during network congestion). T-Mobile Magenta subscribers get 5GB of high-speed hotspot data (downgraded to unlimited 3G speeds after that), and videos on apps/websites stream in 480p SD quality.

T-Mobile Magenta also comes with ample perks for folks that do a lot of traveling. Subscribers get unlimited international texting and 2G data in 210+ countries. T-Mobile offers unlimited talk, text, and data when traveling to Mexico or Canada — the first 5GB being LTE speeds and then downgraded to 2G. Last but certainly not least, eligible flights with Gogo service allow T-Mobile Magenta users to get unlimited in-flight texting and 1 hour of Wi-Fi access.

Then there are all of the extra perks that come with T-Mobile Magenta. Subscribers get free stuff every week with T-Mobile Tuesday, caller ID, and scam call blocking. If someone has 2+ lines of Magenta, they also get a free Netflix Basic subscription for streaming in SD quality on one device at a time (normally $8.99/month). When all of that's added together, it's safe to say T-Mobile Magenta is a good deal. It's best when multiple lines are combined on a single account, but even when just getting 1 or 2 lines of service, it's cheaper than comparable plans from AT&T and Verizon. So long as T-Mobile has good coverage in the area that someone lives, T-Mobile Magenta is a fantastic option to consider.

The Un-carrier is launching new Magenta for Business plans with Microsoft 365 included at no extra charge on up to two lines per account and has upgraded its 7,000-plus retail stores to cater to the needs of small businesses around the country. Finally, T-Mobile has more than doubled the size of its team of specially trained experts dedicated to helping business customers and ensure they have what they need in store, on the phone or online.

“We celebrate small businesses every day at T-Mobile — they are the backbone of our communities. Today, we're going even bigger for small businesses with Microsoft 365 on Us, providing critical Microsoft tools to help them survive and thrive in the face of new realities,” said Mike Katz, EVP T-Mobile for Business. “Additionally, small business owners now have a new experience when they step into retail stores with highly trained mobile experts ready to serve them and other small businesses in the area. These businesses have endured such great challenges in 2020, and we want them to know — we're with you."

Small businesses are the foundation for economies worldwide. In fact, small-and medium-sized enterprises represent over 90% of all businesses, between 60-70% of employment and 55% of GDP in developed economies. 1 The pandemic has hit small businesses especially hard, and they need help now more than ever.

“T-Mobile and Microsoft have a shared commitment to helping small businesses save time and money by providing the tools and technology they need to succeed both now and into the future,” said Mark Kroese, General Manager, Microsoft 365 for SMB. “With the new offering, T-Mobile is making Microsoft 365 tools available to T-Mobile for Business customers, and in the process helping small business owners stay connected and productive in a new world of remote work.”

Today’s announcement builds on T-Mobile’s tradition of supporting small businesses and helps to ensure business owners are equipped with the plan, devices and solutions they need to navigate new realities. When COVID-19 hit, T-Mobile quickly sprang into action to offer up to 90 days free service to new customers who switch their employees to T-Mobile — the offer is still available today. And, the Un-carrier launched a web series — Taking Care of Business — hosted by Mike Katz, EVP of T-Mobile for Business, featuring SMB leaders sharing new insights and stories to navigate these uncertain times. Now available as a podcast, “Taking Care of Business” explores the world beyond COVID-19 and dives deep with trailblazing business leaders to learn how they build leadership skills, lead successful organizations and innovate within their industries.

Best T-Mobile Plans: How to Choose and Which Ones to Pick in May 2024

T-Mobile has at least seven plans listed on its website. We try to make sense of them all.

Our Experts

CNET’s expert staff reviews and rates dozens of new products and services each month, building on more than a quarter century of expertise.

T-Mobile logo on a phone

When it comes to wireless plans, T-Mobile has plenty to choose from. Like all of the major US carriers, T-Mobile offers a wide variety of different options all under the promise of "unlimited" talk, text and data. Unlike its rivals, however, the carrier doesn't have just three main plans to pick from. Looking at its website for a couple of lines and you'll quickly find seven different plans:

  • Essentials Saver
  • Magenta Max

All offer unlimited talk, text and data but all also have different prices, features and perks (and this list isn't even including promotional plans). Which ones should you consider? Let's break it down.

Read More: Our Guide to the Best Cell Phone Plans

  • T-Mobile's 5G network
  • Plan includes 50GB of regular high-speed data in the US as well as the ability to use phones as a hotspot
  • Hotspot is limited to "3G speeds"
  • Canada and Mexico data are at even slower "2G" speeds
  • Everyone needs to be on the same plan

Essentials Saver for 1 or 2 lines, Essentials for 3 or more

Best t-mobile plan for most people: essentials saver or essentials.

The Essentials and Essentials Saver plans are virtually identical in all but name and both options include unlimited talk, text and data with 5G access. Because of some T-Mobile promotions, however, this pick is a bit complicated.

In short, if you need two lines, Essentials Saver is your best pick, while those looking for three or more lines may want to go with regular Essentials.

With either choice you get 50GB of high-speed data, though both options lack perks like international roaming (beyond 2G-like speeds in Canada and Mexico), the inclusion of taxes and fees in the sticker price or streaming perks like bundled in Netflix, Apple TV Plus or Hulu subscriptions. Those on this plan also won't necessarily get T-Mobile's best offers for upgrading devices.

All the deals also require that you set up AutoPay and paperless billing. And unlike its rivals, T-Mobile doesn't offer any options to "mix and match" plans so everyone would have to be on the same main option here.

A single line of Essentials Saver is $50 per month while two lines will run $80 a month. A similar offering from Verizon (Unlimited Welcome), by comparison, costs $110 per month while plans from AT&T (Value Plus VL) run $51 for one line or $102 a month.

Three lines will also run $90 at T-Mobile for its regular Essentials thanks to a promotion, compared with $120 at Verizon (for Unlimited Welcome) and $114 at AT&T (for Value Plus VL). The four-line option is now back to $100 at T-Mobile thanks to that promotion, compared with $120 at Verizon and $124 at AT&T.

You may need to click "see more plans" and then "explore Essentials Saver plan" on T-Mobile's site to get this option to appear, though lately it has been listed alongside its regular plans.

T-Mobile logo on a phone

  • T-Mobile has a strong 5G network
  • Taxes and fees are included in the sticker price
  • Solid perks include Netflix and international data
  • Magenta plans can be harder to find on T-Mobile's website
  • The best new device upgrade deals are limited to pricier options like Go5G Plus

The upgrade pick for those who want perks like Netflix and faster international data

T-mobile magenta, magenta max (1 or 2 lines), go5g and go5g plus (3 or more).

For most people, T-Mobile's Magenta and Magenta Max options are the better pick when it comes to looking for perks for one or two lines. They're cheaper than the Go5G options and have most of the same features, except with a lower monthly rate ($70 for one line on Magenta, $120 for two lines; $85 for one line on Magenta Max, $140 for two lines).

You get less hotspot and international data with a Magenta plan compared with a Go5G option, and Magenta Max users also don't get the same ability to upgrade to a new device after two years while taking advantage of T-Mobile's best device deals.

Similar to what it has done with the Essentials plans, thanks to T-Mobile offering a free third line on its Go5G options those plans become cheaper and a better value compared to the Magentas if you need three or more lines.

Among the benefits of Magenta and Go5G ($75 a month for one line, $155 a month for four lines) are unlimited international data (albeit at slow "2G speeds") when traveling in over 210 countries, an hour of in-flight Wi-Fi  on several airlines , T-Mobile Tuesdays weekly giveaways, the bundling of Netflix's Standard with Ads plan (which is $7 a month) and six free months of Apple TV Plus.

Its pricier Magenta Max and Go5G Plus ($90 a month for one line, $185 a month for four lines) plans keep the Netflix Standard with Ads plan, include a full subscription to Apple TV Plus, ups the hotspot data from 15GB on Go5G to 50GB per month on Go5G Plus, adds 5GB of high-speed international data and gives you unlimited Wi-Fi on a host of flights including those from American, Alaska Airlines, Delta and United. Go5G Plus also has 15GB of high-speed data in Canada and Mexico, compared to 10GB on Go5G and 5GB on Magenta and Magenta Max.

Unlike its Essentials plans discussed earlier, T-Mobile also includes taxes and fees with the pricing of its Magenta and Go5G plans.

Like the Essentials offerings, however, you can't "mix and match" lines, so everyone in your family would need to be on the same plan. That said, if only one line needs perks like faster international data, you should consider Magenta (if you only have one or two lines) or Go5G (if you need three or more lines), with the  MaxUp  or  PlusUp  $15 per line add-on. This will let your other lines get a cheaper rate while allowing you to bolster your international data to tap into the Go5G Plus or Magenta Max offerings for the lines that need it without pushing everyone onto a pricier option.

It is worth noting that you will need to call or chat with T-Mobile to get the Magenta options, as the carrier has hidden the plans under a "see more available plans" tab and then a "learn more" link on its website.

How we test

Picking a wireless plan and carrier is an individualized process. What works for you and your family's needs may be vastly different from your friends or neighbors. Even geographically, some areas have better AT&T coverage while others work best on Verizon or T-Mobile (and vice versa). The picks we make are based on over a decade of covering and evaluating wireless carriers, their offerings and their performance.

Since choosing a provider is unique, we focus on larger plans and the value they provide; as well as calling out ways you can test the different networks in your area for yourself so you can make the best pick.

Factors to consider: Know your area

As we covered in our other wireless guides, to get the best deal you need to make sure you have the coverage that you need. This makes it hard to give a blanket recommendation of any one carrier. T-Mobile's service in New York may be excellent, but if you're in rural Iowa, Verizon is more reliable.

While your mileage may vary, the good news is that these networks are growing and improving all the time, particularly as the three major players race to blanket the US with 5G. It's quite possible that you left a network complaining about its sparse service a decade ago, but now it's beefed itself up because of that race to acquire customers.

If you know any friends or family in your area that already use the carrier you're considering, ask about their experience. You could also go to a carrier's store and see if they offer any free ways to try out the service before switching over, such as  T-Mobile's Network Pass . Verizon  offers a similar 30-day "Test Drive" program,  while the Cricket prepaid service  has its own trial program  that lets you sample parent AT&T's network.

T-Mobile plans FAQs

What about go5g next.

T-Mobile's latest top plan, called Go5G Next, is its priciest. A single line runs $100 per month, while if you have four lines on an account it would be $225 each month or $56.25 per line (in both cases assuming you have automatic payments and paper-free billing enabled).

What you get for that price is the bundling of Hulu with ads and the ability to upgrade your phone every year while taking advantage of T-Mobile's latest device upgrade offers. Otherwise, it's largely the same as Go5G Plus, which lets you upgrade your device with the latest offers every two years.

For most people, we'd recommend staying away from this plan. It's likely too pricey for what you're getting when T-Mobile has much better options available.

Do I need to change my T-Mobile plan when I upgrade my phone?

You don't necessarily need to change plans when you upgrade your phone, but you may need to move plans if you want the carrier's best deals.

T-Mobile has been reserving some of its best deals for those who are on its priciest plans. For example, its top iPhone 15 Pro deals generally require the priciest Go5G Plus or Go5G Next plans (and potentially for you to add a new line or switch from a different carrier).

Are there discounts to lower my T-Mobile bill?

Yes, like its rivals T-Mobile offers a variety of discounts depending on your age, employer or profession. Teachers, military, first responders and more can take advantage of various programs that could save you significant money on your bill. It also offers special pricing for those age 55 or above (though with a max of two lines on an account).

It's worth noting that these discounts are often for the whole account. If you have three lines and one of those users is a first responder or a teacher, your entire family can benefit from the savings.

Some of these discounts have caps on the amount of lines that can benefit, so make sure to check the details when signing up.

T-Mobile Go5G Next vs Magenta: Finally a plan worth switching to?

Published on March 8, 2024

T Mobile logo on sign

In April of 2023 T-Mobile introduced two new plans, dubbed Go5G and Go5G Plus. These plans weren’t dramatically different from the existing Magenta and Magenta Max offerings. The biggest changes were adding more hotspot data and access to killer deals previously reserved for new customers only. T-Mobile isn’t done yet, as it recently announced a third plan called Go5G Next. This new plan goes into affect today.

This new plan is almost literally identical to Go5G Plus, but it has a secret weapon that helps it stand out: yearly upgrades. In this guide, we take a look at T-Mobile Go5G Next vs Magenta and the other pre-existing T-Mobile plans. Is this finally a plan worth switching to for Magenta subscribers?

T-Mobile Go5G Next vs Go 5G Plus: Are there any differences besides yearly upgrades?

As you can see, Go5G Next has almost nothing different to offer from Go5G Plus. The only exception is the ability to upgrade your phone once a year. Premium data, hotspot data, and all other perks remain identical. Regardless of the number of lines, you’ll always pay around $10 more per line than you would for Go5G Plus. Another big change is the move away from special free phone perks and other bonuses for most T-Mobile plans, except high-tier options like Next.

How Go5G Next yearly upgrades work

T-Mobile Go5G Next allows you to upgrade your phone in as little as six months; the only catch is you have to pay for half of it first. Unlike AT&T and Verizon , T-Mobile phone terms only stretch for 24 months, meaning most folks can upgrade within 12 months of purchasing a device.

Still, there might be reasons why you’d want to upgrade earlier, like if a newer model adds some killer features you’ve always wanted. The good news is you can make additional payments if you want to get to that half-mark faster than twelve months.

Once you’ve paid at least half of your phone and have been an owner for at least six months, you can trade in your existing device and apply it toward purchasing a new one. There are no limits on what devices are eligible, and so this promotion can be used on any iPhone or Android phone.

Is the yearly upgrade perk worth the additional costs?

go5g next (1)

But if you DO like having the latest phone every 6-12 months? You’ll pay $120 more for the Next plan, but you’ll essentially be forgiven half of your phone’s payment. That said, you’ll also have to trade it in and have a new payment on your hands. So really, it depends on how much your phone cost in the first place and how much you’d get if you paid it off and sold it directly through something like eBay or Swappa.

For this thought experiment, let’s say you bought the 128GB iPhone 14 last year for $799. You’ve had it for a year now and, in that time, have paid for about half of it, leaving you with $399.50 left to pay off.

You have two options:

  • Trade-in with T-Mobile and your Next plan, they’ll pay off the remaining balance, and then you’ll get a new phone with a new payment.
  • Pay off your iPhone’s remaining $399.50 and sell it on eBay or Swappa yourself. Based on my research, you’ll get around $100 after you factor in what you still owe to T-Mobile. You can then use that $100 toward a new phone.

In a way, option 2 is cheaper. After all, you’re basically getting the same deal, but you’ll get $100 toward the new phone and skip paying the $120 premium the Next plan charges over the Plus plan. Of course, the second option ignores possible promotions and discounts that might only apply if you went through the Next plan, but I’d argue you’re still likely going to end up in the same spot at worst as far as an investment.

Again, we’d advise really thinking about the new phone you’re getting and how much trade-in credit you’d get versus selling it yourself. Devices like iPhones retain value for longer, while many Android phones see resale values fall fast. In other words, it might be worth it for some phones but not for others.

Of course, you can’t compete with the convenience of T-Mobile 5G Go Next. Not everyone wants to jump through hoops to just barely make a savings. Ultimately, Go5G Next is a good plan for those who like to switch phones often, but we’d recommend doing your homework before jumping.

Do you have to upgrade from Magenta to a Go5G plan?

T Mobile logo at MWC 2022

Absolutely not! T-Mobile still offers its Magenta plans even to new subscribers, though it’s pretty clear the company’s main focus is Go5G. While it’s certainly possible the Magenta tier could be phased out in the future, the good news is that it wouldn’t matter if you’re already a subscriber.

T-Mobile will grandfather in old plans and phase them out slowly over time, so even if Magenta goes away, you have no absolute need to switch.

Okay, but should you upgrade from Magenta to a Go5G plan, including this new next offering? For now, we don’t think there is any reason to upgrade to Magenta. The plans are so similar you should only consider an upgrade unless you are really attracted to Go5G’s larger hotspot data pool, its special deals, or the ability to trade in a phone yearly.
