Let us lookat two very different kind of organismsfrom the desert and the sea – a cameland a fish. The body structure of a camelhelps it to survive in desert conditions.Camels have long legs which help to keep their bodies away from the heat of the sand. They excrete small amount of urine, their dung is dry and they do not sweat. Since camels losevery little water from their bodies, theycan live for many days without water.

Let us look at different kinds of fish.The thing that is common in all fishis their streamlined shape, which helps them move inside water. Fish have slippery scales on their bodies. The leaves in Desert plants are either absent, very Small, or they are in the form of spines. This helps in reducing loss of water from the leaves through transpiration. The Leaf-like structure you see in a cactus is, in fact, its stem. Photosynthesis in these plants is usually carried out by the stems.

Mountain habitats are normally very cold and windy. In some areas, snowfall may take place in winters. Here, Trees are normally cone shaped and have sloping branches. The leaves of some of these trees are needle-like. This helps the rainwater and snow to Slide off easily. Animals living in the mountain regions are also adapted to the conditions there. They have thick skin or fur to protect them from cold. For example, yaks have long hair to keep them warm. Snow leopard has thick fur on its body including feet and toes. This protects its feet from the cold when it walks on the snow.

They breathe in air through nostrils or blowholes that are located on the upper parts of their heads. This allows them to breathe in air when they swim near the surface of water. They can stay inside the water for a long time without breathing. They come out to the surface from time to time, to breathe in air.

Plants growing in ponds, lakes and rivers have their roots fixed in the soil below the water. In terrestrial plants, roots normally play a very important role in the absorption of nutrients and water from the soil. However, in aquatic plants, roots are much reduced in size and their main function is to hold the plant in place. The stems of these plants are long, hollow and light. The stems grow up to the surface of water while the leaves and flowers, float on the surface of water. Some aquatic plants are submerged in water. All parts of such plants are under water. Some of these plants have narrow and thin ribbon-like leaves. These can bend in the flowing water.

For example, earthworms breathethrough their skin. Fishhave gills for using oxygen dissolved inwater. The gills absorb oxygen from theair dissolved in water. Respiration also takes place in plants. Exchange of gases in plants mainly takes place through leaves. The leaves take in air through tiny pores in them and use the oxygen. They give out carbon dioxide to the air. The amount of oxygen released in the process of food preparation by plants is much more than the oxygen they use in respiration.

Changes in our surroundings that makes us respond to them, are called stimuli. All living beings respond to stimuli, including plants. Flowers of some plants bloom only at night. In some plants flowers close after sunset. In some plants like Mimosa, commonly known as ‘touch-me-not’, leaves close or fold when someone touches them. These are some examples of responses of plants towards changes in their surroundings.

Animals reproduce their own kind. The mode of reproduction may be Different, in different animals. Some Animals produce their young ones through eggs. Some animals give birth to the young ones. Plants also reproduce. Like animals, Plants also differ in their mode of Reproduction. Many plants reproduce through seeds. Plants produce seeds, which can germinate and grow into new plant. Some plants also reproduce through parts other than seeds. For example, a part of a potato with a bud, grows into a new plant. Plants also reproduce through cuttings. Living things produce more of their own kind through reproduction.

Class 6 Social Science is one of the core subjects that forms an important part of the student’s curriculum. Social Science can be one of the scoring subjects for the students of Class 6 if they know how to go about studying it. The subject consists of three parts, History, Civics, and Geography . All the three are given in separate books. The subject, on the whole, is very important to build some basic social concepts. The different books available are Geography book, the Earth our habitat, History book, History our past, and the Civics book, Social and Political Life.

Each one of these subjects is very important as they will continue to be a part of the student’s curriculum for at least up to Class 10. Whatever the student studies in Class 6 will form a foundation for future studies. These subjects also happen to be quite scoring from the exam point of view. Looking at the second subject, Geography, another important subject, the students can better understand the geographic elements in the world. There are eight chapters in this subject, starting from the first chapter, which covers basics like the solar system, planets, and stars. The next few chapters talk about latitudes and longitudes, how to read a map and touches upon the different motions of the earth and the phenomena it results in. 

Chapter 5 talks about the domains, continents, and layers of the atmosphere . Another important chapter is the major landforms of the Earth. The different natural formations and landforms that exist and the changes they bring in the weather are discussed in depth. The last two chapters talk about India, its physical divisions, climatic changes, wildlife, and vegetation. 

The last part of the subject is Social and Political Life . This book has about nine chapters, and they basically talk about the Civics of our country. Sanaa Shaikh, a student of DPS, Gurgaon, shared some effective study habits and techniques that helped her excel in the CBSE board exams during an interview with India Today. "I treated my textbooks like a bible, reading every bit of them without leaving anything out. I was fond of taking notes and would typically make 2–3 sets of notes throughout the year. I prefer writing and learning over speaking and learning, often scribbling down my notes diligently. I found that the act of writing helped solidify my understanding of the material," says Sanaa.

TIME MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

"I initially found it challenging to manage my time effectively, so I began setting regular alarms. I felt a sense of urgency to wake up early, typically around 6 to 8 in the morning, to study. My parents supported me in developing good time-management habits," she adds.

Sanaa had a clear goal regarding the number of chapters to cover consistently in mind, with efforts made to uphold a disciplined routine for the efficient attainment of study objectives.

In addressing challenges encountered during preparation, Sanaa highlights her experience as a humanities stream student, covering subjects such as History, political science, English, Psychology, and Geography.

Throughout her academic journey, she acknowledges the value of delivering concise responses, a lesson imparted by her teachers who emphasise the necessity for clear and succinct answers within a 50 to 300-word range. Their mentorship has equipped her with the skills to effectively draft responses before initiating the writing process.

SIGNIFICANCE OF PREVIOUS YEARS' PAPERS

"Sample papers were important and helped me in my preparation. The key aspect was time management. Sample papers provide a conceptual understanding; even if you don't physically write an answer, you gain insight into how to structure responses. Regular practice is crucial, aiming to solve 1–2 papers each day," Sanaa explains.

FUTURE ACADEMIC AND LIFE GOALS

In discussing her aspirations for higher education, Sanaa revealed, "While I haven't settled on a definitive path, I'm gravitating towards pursuing my studies in Canada, with a particular interest in psychology." She further disclosed, "An exciting development is the scholarship offer I've received from the University of British Columbia." Expressing her enthusiasm, she added, "The opportunity to delve into the field of psychology at UBC and discover new avenues in Canada is truly exhilarating."

"I am passionate about pursuing psychology, with a focus on researching mental disorders, and governmental policies related to mental health, and physical ailments. Specifically, I am interested in studying the intersection of mental health, insurance policies, and physical health conditions," she adds.

My next pet was a pigeon, the most revolting bird to look at, with his feathers pushing through the wrinkled scarlet skin, mixed with the horrible yellow down that covers baby pigeons and makes them look as though they have been peroxiding their hair. Because of his repulsive and obese appearance, we called him Quasimodo. Since he had an unorthodox upbringing, without parents to teach him, Quasimodo became convinced that he was not a bird at all, and refused to fly. He walked everywhere. For her higher secondary education, she transitioned to Delhi Public School, DPS Gurgaon, where she completed both her Class 11 and Class 12 studies. This achievement underscores her dedication and excellence in academic studies, highlighting her as a shining example of academic brilliance.

Driven by a passion for writing and a keen interest in psychology, they resolved to pursue higher studies in the field.

Encouraged by supportive parents employed in the insurance sector at Bajaj Allianz, the aspiring scholar's journey is a testament to dedication and familial encouragement. Moreover, the student's stellar performance has garnered attention internationally, with an offer from the prestigious University of British Columbia further illuminating their academic path.

TIME MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

"I initially found it challenging to manage my time effectively, so I began setting regular alarms. I felt a sense of urgency to wake up early, typically around 6 to 8 in the morning, to study. My parents supported me in developing good time-management habits," she adds.

Sanaa had a clear goal regarding the number of chapters to cover consistently in mind, with efforts made to uphold a disciplined routine for the efficient attainment of study objectives.

In addressing challenges encountered during preparation, Sanaa highlights her experience as a humanities stream student, covering subjects such as History, political science, English, Psychology, and Geography.

SIGNIFICANCE OF PREVIOUS YEARS' PAPERS

Future academic and life goals.

In discussing her aspirations for higher education, Sanaa revealed, "While I haven't settled on a definitive path, I'm gravitating towards pursuing my studies in Canada, with a particular interest in psychology." She further disclosed, "An exciting development is the scholarship offer I've received from the University of British Columbia." Expressing her enthusiasm, she added, "The opportunity to delve into the field of psychology at UBC and discover new avenues in Canada is truly exhilarating." "I am passionate about pursuing psychology, with a focus on researching mental disorders, and governmental policies related to mental health, and physical ailments. Specifically, I am interested in studying the intersection of mental health, insurance policies, and physical health conditions," she adds.
