Fix your camera issue

If your camera causes you issues on your phone, try these steps to fix the problem.

After each step, open your camera and check whether it fixed the issue. If not, try the next step.

Important:  Some of these steps work only on Android 8.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version .

To clean the camera lens and laser sensor, wipe them gently with a soft, clean cloth.

• If your photos and videos seem hazy or the camera won’t focus, clean the camera lens.
• If your phone has a laser sensor, also clean the sensor. Find where your lens and sensor are located for your Pixel phone or Nexus device .

Tip : Your camera might let you know if it senses that your lens is dirty. Learn how to turn off dirty lens warnings .

• After your phone turns off, press and hold the Power button until your phone turns back on.

• At the top right, tap the profile icon.
• Tap Manage apps & devices .
• Under "Updates available," choose to update all apps or a specific app.
• Your phone starts in safe mode. The words "Safe mode" show at the bottom of your screen.
• To turn off safe mode, restart your phone.
• Uninstall your most recently downloaded app.
• Open your camera and check if you fixed the issue. If not, repeat the previous step.
• If you fixed the problem, reinstall any apps you removed before the last app.
• If Google Camera doesn’t work in safe mode, learn more ways to fix an app .

Troubleshooting Camera issues in Google Meet

• Change the setting to allow Meet to use your camera and microphone, click on the camera icon in the address bar and select the  Always allow  option.
• Confirm your camera is connected.
• Make sure no other apps currently access your camera.
• If you have more than one camera installed, make sure the camera you want to use is set to active.
• Confirm you have  the most recent version of Google Meet .
• Enable your camera before you join the meeting

7 ways to fix your Google Meet camera if it's not working

• If your camera isn't working in Google Meet, test to see if it is working in other apps.

Google Meet allows you to work from home or conduct remote meetings with people all over the world, but even so, the service sometimes has its share of hiccups. 

First and foremost: When you need to start a call and find that Google Meet's camera is not working. If you try to start a meeting and find there's no video, or you see an error message indicating the camera isn't available, you can generally fix this problem yourself. 

Here are the seven most common ways to troubleshoot Google Meet when the app's camera is not working.

Ensure the camera is turned on and connected

Most of the time, you're probably using a webcam that's integrated into your device, like a camera built into your phone or laptop. But if you've added an external, plug-in webcam to your desktop computer, make sure it's properly connected. Check to see that it's plugged in and works with a different app. If you are using Windows, for example, click Start and type "camera." Start the Camera app when you see it in the search results, and make sure you can see video in the app's window. If not, plug it into a different USB port or try other troubleshooting steps to get it working. 

Make sure Google Meet has permission to use the camera

It's also possible that the camera isn't working because Google Meet doesn't have permission to use your camera. 

On an iPhone, start the Settings app and tap Privacy & Security . Tap Camera and ensure Meet is turned on by swiping the button to the right. If you have an Android, start the Settings app and tap Apps . Tap See all apps and tap Meet . Tap Permissions , then Cameras , and enable it by choosing either Allow only while using the app or Ask every time .  

If you're using Windows, go to the Settings app and choose Privacy & Security , then Camera . Make sure both Let apps access your camera and Let desktop apps access your camera are enabled by swiping the buttons to the right.  

Or, if you are using a Mac, open System Preferences and then choose Security & Privacy . Click the Privacy tab. Click the Lock icon at the bottom to unlock the page. Click Camera on the left and make sure that Meet is enabled with a check mark.  

Make sure your browser has access to Google Meet

If, like most people, you use Google Meet in the Chrome browser, make sure that it's properly configured there as well. Open Chrome , click the three-dot menu and choose Settings . Then on the Settings page, click Privacy and security . In the Privacy and security section, click Site settings , and then Camera . In the Default behavior section, make sure that Sites can ask to use your camera is selected. Then start a Google Meet and click the Camera icon in the Address Bar at the top of the screen. Select Always allow https://meet.google.com to access your camera and microphone and click Done . 

Check to make sure no other app is using the camera

Are any other apps already trying to use the camera? The camera can't be shared, so if you are already running an app that's using it, you should close that app and then restart Google Meet. And you can turn off most Android phones by holding the power button for several seconds, or swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the Power icon in the shortcuts panel.

Check the camera settings in Google Meet

Is Google Meet using the correct camera? If you have more than one camera connected to your device, it's not unusual for the app to try using the wrong one, especially in Windows. Often, that other camera is embedded in a VR headset, in a closed laptop, or not even really installed anymore. To check, start Google Meet in a browser and click the three-dot button at the bottom of the page, then click Settings in the pop-up menu. Click the Video tab and then check the Camera dropdown menu. If needed, select a different camera and close the window. 

Restart your computer

If you've gotten this far and nothing has worked, it might simply be a case in which some intermittent software glitch is keeping Google Meet from working properly. Often, you can simply restart the computer or mobile device and then try again. 

Update your device's operating system

Finally, if nothing else has resolved the issue, it's possible that you need to update your device's operating system. Windows should automatically install the latest updates, but you can check by clicking the Start button and typing "update." Click Check for updates and then click the Check for updates button. Google Lens Lets You Solve Math Problems Using Your Phone’s Camera Just Like Magic

Google Lens is making quite a name for itself. A few days ago it received a pretty nice update that would allow the users to simply copy and paste what they have written on their notes to their computers. Granted, you would need good handwriting for the software to recognize it but it was still a pretty nice feature, to begin with.

As it turns out, for the sake of education, Google is testing another new feature pertaining to Google Lens that will help users solve math problems and not just that, look up buildings as well.

Google will soon allow you to solve your math problems and will help in identifying buildings too.

The feature is not officially available yet, but XDA's editor in chief Mishaal Rahman has managed to make it work. The feature is aptly named Education mode and it helps everyone look at math problems using Google Lens and solve them.

You can see the screenshot below to see how Google Lens' Education Mode works. All you have to do is point your phone's camera at the problem and it is solved. This is not the first time we are seeing such an app. There is a popular app called Photomath app that is available on both Android and iOS that lets you do that.

However, unlike Photomath, Google Len's Education mode actually brings up more search and tells you just how the process was done or how the solution was found. At the time of writing, it is important to know that we are not sure if this feature can actually solve complex math problems as Photomath can.

Education mode is not the only feature Google is bringing. Mishaal managed to find another mode called Places in Google Lens. This mode, as the name suggests, will help recognize famous landmarks. However, as reported, the feature is not working properly at the moment but we expect Google will fully polish it once the version supporting both of these modes is finally available in the market.

Google Lens is certainly becoming the app many people would be using in the future. As a matter of fact, we can see ourselves making use of some of the features, too. After all, convenience is key, and Google is providing it with Google Lens.

You can fix your Android camera yourself if the Camera app keeps crashing, won't open at all, or the app is just black. We'll also tackle what to do if it's too slow to take pictures reliably, or if it's simply not working like you know it should. Why the Camera Isn't Working on Android

Many things could be the cause for a laggy, broken, or blurry camera, including the following:

• There's a temporary problem with the app or an unresolved bug
• Camera access is turned off
• The app hasn't been given permission to use the camera
• The physical camera hardware is damaged

How to Fix It When the Android Camera Isn't Working

Follow these steps in the order they're given below, which starts off with the easier and more relevant solutions first.

Close the app . Close the Camera app (or whatever app is having camera troubles) by swiping it off the screen.

If that didn't help, long-press the app, tap the small info button ⓘ , and then select Force stop > OK .

Turn on the Camera access tile . This is accessible when you swipe down from the top of the screen. It's next to other toggles for the internet, Airplane Mode, Bluetooth, etc.

If it's toggled on , it'll be highlighted, like in the third photo below. When it's toggled off , any app that attempts to use the camera will just show a black screen.

Edit the Quick Settings menu if you don't see the tile.

Update the app that's having problems . Assuming an update is available, head over to the Play Store on your phone, and install any app updates, specifically for the Camera app and any other app struggling to use the camera properly.

Close any other app that might be using the camera . For example, if you were using the camera in Messages or Snapchat, you could run into problems if you then try to take a video for TikTok.

Reboot your device . Closing apps should have been enough to close out any lingering camera access, but if there's a deeper problem at play, a simple restart of your device should clear out any software conflicts and give you normal access to the camera.

Check app permissions . The Camera app itself needs access to the camera, and so too does any other app that wants to use it. Camera access must be set up for every app that wants it, or you'll run into issues when it's time to take a picture or video.

Clear the app cache . Do this for whatever app is having issues, be it Camera, Snapchat, etc.

Delete the app , and then install it again. We've seen this work when clearing the cache didn't help.

Update the Android OS , if one is available. The fix for a big bug with the camera could be pending in an operating system update.

Let your phone cool down . Set your phone aside and let it cool down. It's possible for excessive heat to be causing camera issues.

Tap the camera . Gently tap the camera, or firmly strike the back of the phone a few times. This has worked for some people, but it's not a long-term solution because it points to a deeper issue with the hardware. This is a pretty rare solution.

Factory reset your phone . Any software-related issues should be resolved after a factory reset.

This is a drastic step. It will erase everything on your phone and restore the software to the same state it'd be in if you had just purchased the phone new. So make sure to back up your Android phone .

Replace the camera sensors . In our research, some Android users' camera issues are caused by damage to the physical camera sensors, in which case a software reset is simply not enough to fix it.
