Listen: we know homework isn’t fun, but it is a good way to reinforce the ideas and concepts you’ve learned in class. But what if you’re really struggling with your homework assignments?

If you’ve looked online for a little extra help with your take-home assignments, you’ve probably stumbled across websites claiming to provide the homework help and answers students need to succeed . But can homework help sites really make a difference? And if so, which are the best homework help websites you can use?

Below, we answer these questions and more about homework help websites–free and paid. We’ll go over:

  • The basics of homework help websites
  • The cost of homework help websites
  • The five best homework websites out there
  • The pros and cons of using these websites for homework help
  • The line between “learning” and “cheating” when using online homework help
  • Tips for getting the most out of a homework help website

So let’s get started!

The Basics About Homework Help Websites–Free and Paid

Homework help websites are designed to help you complete your homework assignments, plain and simple.

What Makes a Homework Help Site Worth Using

Most of the best sites allow users to ask questions and then provide an answer (or multiple possible answers) and explanation in seconds. In some instances, you can even send a photo of a particular assignment or problem instead of typing the whole thing out!

Homework help sites also offer more than just help answering homework questions. Common services provided are Q&A with experts, educational videos, lectures, practice tests and quizzes, learning modules, math solving tools, and proofreading help. Homework help sites can also provide textbook solutions (i.e. answers to problems in tons of different textbooks your school might be using), one-on-one tutoring, and peer-to-peer platforms that allow you to discuss subjects you’re learning about with your fellow students.

And best of all, nearly all of them offer their services 24/7, including tutoring!

What You Should Should Look Out For

When it comes to homework help, there are lots–and we mean lots –of scam sites out there willing to prey on desperate students. Before you sign up for any service, make sure you read reviews to ensure you’re working with a legitimate company.

A word to the wise: the more a company advertises help that veers into the territory of cheating, the more likely it is to be a scam. The best homework help websites are going to help you learn the concepts you’ll need to successfully complete your homework on your own. (We’ll go over the difference between “homework help” and “cheating” a little later!)

You don't need a golden piggy bank to use homework help websites. Some provide low or no cost help for students like you!

How Expensive Are the Best Homework Help Websites?

First of all, just because a homework help site costs money doesn’t mean it’s a good service. Likewise, just because a homework help website is free doesn’t mean the help isn’t high quality. To find the best websites, you have to take a close look at the quality and types of information they provide!

When it comes to paid homework help services, the prices vary pretty widely depending on the amount of services you want to subscribe to. Subscriptions can cost anywhere from $2 to $150 dollars per month, with the most expensive services offering several hours of one-on-one tutoring with a subject expert per month.

The 5 Best Homework Help Websites

So, what is the best homework help website you can use? The answer is that it depends on what you need help with.

The best homework help websites are the ones that are reliable and help you learn the material. They don’t just provide answers to homework questions–they actually help you learn the material.

That’s why we’ve broken down our favorite websites into categories based on who they’re best for . For instance, the best website for people struggling with math might not work for someone who needs a little extra help with science, and vice versa.

Keep reading to find the best homework help website for you!

Best Free Homework Help Site: Khan Academy

  • Price: Free!
  • Best for: Practicing tough material

Not only is Khan Academy free, but it’s full of information and can be personalized to suit your needs. When you set up your account , you choose which courses you need to study, and Khan Academy sets up a personal dashboard of instructional videos, practice exercises, and quizzes –with both correct and incorrect answer explanations–so you can learn at your own pace.

As an added bonus, it covers more course topics than many other homework help sites, including several AP classes.

Runner Up: offers a free service that allows you to type in questions and get answers and explanations from experts. The downside is that you’re limited to two answers per question and have to watch ads.

Best Paid Homework Help Site: Chegg

  • Price: $14.95 to $19.95 per month
  • Best for: 24/7 homework assistance

This service has three main parts . The first is Chegg Study, which includes textbook solutions, Q&A with subject experts, flashcards, video explanations, a math solver, and writing help. The resources are thorough, and reviewers state that Chegg answers homework questions quickly and accurately no matter when you submit them.

Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school.

Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Chegg’s learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects.

Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didn’t rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions aren’t answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!

Best Site for Math Homework Help: Photomath

  • Price: Free (or $59.99 per year for premium services)
  • Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This site allows you to t ake a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath also includes animated videos that break down mathematical concepts to help you better understand and remember them.

The basic service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools and learn additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Runner Up: KhanAcademy offers in-depth tutorials that cover complex math topics for free, but you won’t get the same tailored help (and answers!) that Photomath offers.

Best Site for English Homework Help: Princeton Review Academic Tutoring

  • Price: $40 to $153 per month, depending on how many hours of tutoring you want
  • Best for: Comprehensive and personalized reading and writing help

While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Review’s tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. And unlike other services, you’ll have the chance to work with a real person to get help.

The best part is that you can get on-demand English (and ESL) tutoring from experts 24/7. That means you can get help whenever you need it, even if you’re pulling an all-nighter!

This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so you’ll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!

Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool

  • Best for: Science homework help
  • Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit

When it comes to science homework help, there aren’t a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well.

Let’s start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded.

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, it’s not clear how tutors are selected, so you’ll need to be cautious when you choose who you’d like to answer your homework questions.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?

Homework help websites can be a great resource if you’re struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that you’re really learning and understanding topics and ideas that you’re interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you don’t use these sites responsibly.

We’ll go over the good–and the not-so-good–aspects of getting online homework help below.

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Websites

First, let’s take a look at the benefits.

#1: Better Grades Beyond Homework

This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that you’re learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays.

Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class exams…or even standardized tests you’ll need to take for college.

#2: Convenience

One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because it’s flexible and convenient. You don’t have to go to a specific tutoring center while they’re open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Instead, you can access helpful resources wherever you can access the internet, whenever you need them.

This is especially true if you tend to study at off hours because of your extracurriculars, work schedule, or family obligations. Sites that offer 24/7 tutoring can give you the extra help you need if you can’t access the free resources that are available at your school.

#3: Variety

Not everyone learns the same way. Maybe you’re more of a visual learner, but your teacher mostly does lectures. Or maybe you learn best by listening and taking notes, but you’re expected to learn something just from reading the textbook .

One of the best things about online homework help is that it comes in a variety of forms. The best homework help sites offer resources for all types of learners, including videos, practice activities, and even one-on-one discussions with real-life experts.

This variety can also be a good thing if you just don’t really resonate with the way a concept is being explained (looking at you, math textbooks!).

Not so fast. There are cons to homework help websites, too. Get to know them below!

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Websites

Now, let’s take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help.

#1: Unreliable Info

This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites don’t necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects they’re talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.

Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help students…or if you’re enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option.

#2: No Clarification

This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework… but you can’t ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .

#3: Potential For Scamming

Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up.

No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign up–especially if it’s a paid service!

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it “help” when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it “cheating”? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get.

That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned.

So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, there’s a good chance using it constitutes cheating.

Here’s an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided you’re the one that makes the changes later.

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

5 Tips for Finding the Best Homework Help Websites for You

Now that you know some of our favorite homework help websites, free and paid, you can start doing some additional research on your own to decide which services might work best for you! Here are some top tips for choosing a homework help website.

Tip 1: Decide How You Learn Best

Before you decide which site or sites you’re going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.

Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With

Just because a homework help site is good overall doesn’t mean that it’s equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where you’re struggling, a site that specializes in math won’t be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most.

Tip 3: Decide How Much One-On-One Help You Need

This is really about cost-effectiveness. If you learn well on your own by reading and watching videos, a free site like Khan Academy is a good choice. But if you need actual tutoring, or to be able to ask questions and get personalized answers from experts, a paid site that provides that kind of service may be a better option.

Tip 4: Set a Budget

If you decide you want to go with a paid homework help website, set a budget first . The prices for sites vary wildly, and the cost to use them can add up quick.

Tip 5: Read the Reviews

Finally, it’s always a good idea to read actual reviews written by the people using these homework sites. You’ll learn the good, the bad, and the ugly of what the users’ experiences have been. This is especially true if you intend to subscribe to a paid service. You’ll want to make sure that users think it’s worth the price overall!

9 Best Homework Help Websites

July 22, 2023

best online college homework help

When I was in high school, resources for extra homework help weren’t exactly abundant. If you were struggling with a Shakespeare sonnet, you could always run to the bookstore and pick up a CliffNotes guide. SparkNotes was also gaining in popularity. But these early homework help resources had limited catalogs and were focused primarily on literature. Today, I imagine students suffer from the opposite problem—having too many choices when it comes to homework help websites. When the options are seemingly endless, knowing what to look out for takes on an added importance. Below, I’ll go through a list of 9 stand-out homework help websites and briefly discuss what makes them worth a visit.

Homework Help Websites – The Basics

The best homework help websites do more than just spit out an answer to that tricky math problem. They actually help students learn the material. Common features of homework help websites are educational videos and lectures, practice tests and quizzes, study tools like flashcards, and Q&As with experts. Many sites offer features that allow students to ask specific questions and get real-time feedback. There are also a number of services that offer one-on-one tutoring. Some homework help sites are free, while others require a paid subscription.

1) Khan Academy

Khan Academy is an amazing resource for students of all ages. It’s free, and it really is an academy—it offers full courses in a wide array of subjects, from pre-K math to high school physics. The courses consist of readings, video lectures, practice exercises, and quizzes. The breadth of material is impressive. In math alone, I see course listings for Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Statistics, Multivariable calculus—you get the idea. Khan Academy also offers a wide variety of AP courses, state-specific curricula, test-prep programs, and life skill courses, like personal finance.

It’s important to note that Khan Academy isn’t a one-on-one tutoring platform. But because of their extensive library of material, the search function is especially powerful. Try it out. I did a search for argumentative essay help, and found a comprehensive guide to writing argumentative essays that was a part of a larger writing course.

Chegg is a paid homework help service. Unlike Khan Academy, Chegg isn’t built around specific courses. Rather, it offers a variety of homework-support resources. Among those resources are plagiarism and grammar checkers, a proofreading service, and a “math solver”, which allows students to enter a problem and get back both a solution and a detailed step-by-step explanation of how the problem was solved. Perhaps the most powerful tool Chegg offers is its “Expert Q&A” feature. This service allows students to take a picture of their homework problem, upload it to the site, and get a detailed response in return. Chegg’s emphasis on process and explanation make it a valuable educational resource for students—not just a way to get a quick answer.

Best Homework Help Websites (Continued)

Quizlet is a well-known and worthwhile study resource. It offers a variety of courses, and it also has an expert-response feature. But Quizlet’s best feature, in my option, is the flashcards tool. Students can create their own digital decks of cards and practice them on Quizlet—just like an old fashion set of index cards. I had a ton of success using Quizlet’s flash card feature to help me memorize words for my foreign language requirement in college. It’s a simple but powerful tool. Although often maligned as a learning method, rote rehearsal and spaced repetition are effective ways to encode information . Quizlet’s flashcard feature is a great way to put those techniques into practice.

4) Socratic

is an AI-powered homework support app that allows students to type or take pictures of questions and receive solutions right away. Since it works with AI, it relies on the web’s vast stores of accumulated knowledge—you’re not interacting with a human tutor. Nonetheless, I found it to be an extremely helpful tool. I tried it out first using a specific math problem. In just a few seconds I was provided with the solution and an explainer with relevant formulas, plus a graphic to help visualize the underlying logic. There were also suggested links to additional resources. For example, when I asked Socratic to explain how the German genitive case works, it suggested a YouTube video and a number of articles from blogs and other language-learning sites.

Since Socratic doesn’t feature courses or one-on-one tutoring support, I wouldn’t lean on it if I were really struggling in a particular class. But as a tool to check your work, make sure you’re on the right track, and become aware of additional resources, it’s worth a download.

5) Photomath

Photomath is, as you might have guessed, a site for math homework help. Like other homework help websites, Photomath allows students to take a picture of a problem and receive an instant, step-by-step solution. Included along with the solution is an explanation of relevant concepts and formulas, plus videos covering mathematical concepts. Photomath does offer a few basic courses, too. So if in addition to homework-specific help you want to brush up on the basics, they’ve got you covered in arithmetic, algebra, and calculus crash courses.

6) Studypool

Studypool is a paid homework support service that provides solutions to specific questions. Studypool offers support in all the major subjects, with a particular emphasis on science. Students can ask questions on everything from anatomy to physics. Like other services, students upload their exact questions or problems directly to the site. But Studypool’s payment model is a bit different: instead of paying for tutoring time or a monthly subscription, students pay for solutions to each question they submit. When a student submits a question, tutors submit bids to answer them. The student then can select which tutor/price option works best. After students select the price and tutor they want, they’re connected with the tutor and given the solution and explanation via messenger.

The draw of Studypool is that it gives students access to real (i.e., human) tutors who are experts in their field. The downside is that pricing isn’t transparent, and students pay per question.

7) College Info Geek

College Info Geek is the study-support website that I wish I knew about when I was in high school and college (they didn’t pay me to write that, I swear). The site focuses not on specific courses or questions, but on how to become a more effective learner. Here it’s all about “learning how to learn”—study tips, memorization and note-taking techniques, and much more. The articles are well-researched, clearly-communicated, practical, and comprehensive. For example, the article on how to improve your memory includes a breakdown of the different types of memory processes, memorization techniques, and even a discussion of how nutrition affects memory. College Info Geek is a great resource for everyone, not just high school and college students.

8) SparkNotes

Yes, Sparknotes made the list! The site offers lessons in a whole bunch of subjects—biology, chemistry, computer science, history, philosophy, math—but its specialty is literature. SparkNotes provides summaries and analyses of novels, short stories, poetry, and non-fiction, from The Canterbury Tales to Toni Morrison, Saul Bellow, and Junot Diaz. SparkNotes breaks down books into sub-sections and provides synopses and analyses for each section. There are also separate pages for character breakdowns, discussions of themes and motifs, and explanations of important quotes. I’d caution against using SparkNotes if you’re trying to “hack” a novel or poem and get simple answers about what it “means.” But as a way to supplement your own understanding and interpretation, it’s a great resource. Shmoop is also worth checking out for extra support in literature, poetry, mythology, and the history of literary movements.

9) Grammarly

I’m not sure if Grammarly is an obvious or unexpected choice to round out the list. Either way, it deserves a mention here. Grammarly is a writing tool. It checks and suggests corrections for incorrectly spelled words and misused punctuation. But Grammarly also scans and corrects for things like clarity and vocab usage. It flags sentences that are vague, or overly wordy, and alerts you if you’re using that flashy vocab word incorrectly. It even gives suggestions if it thinks your writing is a bit bland. I don’t see Grammarly as a crutch, but rather as a tool. It can help you master those pesky recurring grammar and usage issues. Always mix up effect and affect? Grammarly will continue to course correct until you’ve got it down yourself.

Homework Help Websites – Final Thoughts

None of the above homework help websites should be seen as a panacea. Each has benefits and drawbacks, strengths and weak points. The list is far from exhaustive. And the sites don’t have to be used in isolation. Try a few out, mix and match. College Info Geek is an excellent supplement to any study regimen. Socratic can be used as a tool to check answers for math homework, and at the same time you can use Grammarly to describe your problem to a tutor on Chegg. At their best, these sites are more than quick fixes to stubborn homework problems—they’re aids to genuine learning.

  • Tutor qualifications: Ivy-League tutors, all experienced and highly trained, some with master’s or doctoral degrees

What we like:

  • Ivy League experience — most of their tutors are Princeton grads or current students, with some from Harvard and other Ivies
  • Different pricing options to meet different families’ circumstances
  • Smaller, boutique company offers more individualized approach customized for each student
  • Able to cover advanced subjects , since tutors have Ivy-League backgrounds and have aced AP tests themselves

What we don’t like:

  • Because they take the time to pair each student with the tutor that will be the best fit, sessions are not instantaneous and usually it takes 1–3 days to schedule with an Ivy-League tutor

#2 – StudyPoint

Our Verdict — Best Big Tutoring Company Price: $60-120/hour StudyPoint is a large test-prep company that keeps its rates lower than Princeton Review or Kaplan. While they do require basic qualifications for their tutors (2 years of experience and a college degree), it’s hard to know much about the tutor you’ll be matched with. You’ll also need to pay more for a more experienced tutor, so StudyPoint’s top rate of $120/hr runs on the more expensive side. While we like StudyPoint’s platform and their tutor qualifications, there’s likely to be a wide variance in tutro quality, since not all their tutors are from top schools. We’d suggest that families consider working with a Standard Tutor at PrepMaven , where fees start at $79/hour for Ivy-League tutors.

  • StudyPoint is a good option for families who want to work with a large, established company at decent rates.
  • Cost: $60-120/hr
  • Tutor qualifications: 2 years of tutoring experience and a Bachelor’s degree
  • Higher educational experience — their tutors have some experience and a college degree
  • Responsive – from our experience, it’s easy to get in touch with someone at StudyPoint
  • Tutors aren’t necessarily from top schools , and it’s not possible to see any information about their tutors
  • Rates may be high for standard academic tutoring

#3 – Skooli

Our Verdict — Best Super-Quick Tutoring Price: $39–49/hour Skooli is a newer online tutoring platform and the only one we’ve found that offers tutoring charged by the minute. Families can purchase packs for 8, 16, or 32 hours, or purchase individual hours. Students can then use these hours in as little as 15-minute increments. This might be handy for students who want to ask a tutor quick questions, and who don’t care about developing a relationship with a consistent tutor. Tutors for Skooli have college degrees, but haven’t necessarily graduated from a top-tier school. It’s not possible to see more details about individual tutors until after giving credit card details. Their online interface is slick and modern, although according to our inside sources it crashes frequently.

  • Students who want to work with a tutor to answer quick questions (sessions as short as 15 minutes).
  • Cost: $1248 for 32 hours ($39/hr), $672 for 16 hours ($42/hr), $352 per 8 hours ($44/hr), or $49/hour for individual hours, billed by the minute ($0.82/minute, minimum 15 minutes)
  • Tutor qualifications: college graduates
  • Tutoring available in very short increments , with a minimum session length of just 15 minutes
  • Instant tutoring — on-demand tutoring is available 24/7, and just enter your credit card information to start immediately
  • Reasonable pricing
  • Students can’t work with the same tutor consistently , which is less effective for learning
  • Online tutoring platform has some technological problems and crashes frequently

#4 – Wyzant

Our Verdict — Alternative for Families on a Budget Price: $20–600/hour There are plenty of large platforms with large stables of part-time tutors and coaches available to work with students. Wyzant is one of the largest such platforms, with more than 65,000 tutors providing services through their website. Students and families can pick individual tutors to work with from their roster and arrange tutoring services directly. One benefit of this model is that tutors can set their own rates, which vary hugely. Families on a budget can find online writing tutors as low as $20 per hour. However, these tutors might not have any teaching experience or training, and they may not have graduated from a top school. Some tutors on Wyzant with more qualifications may have much higher rates — as high as $600 per hour!

  • Families on a budget who are willing to work with a freelance tutor directly.
  • Cost: $20–600/hour
  • Tutor qualifications: varies
  • Marketplace platform means that some tutors list low rates for tutoring, which can make tutoring more affordable
  • Families can choose their own tutor directly out of over 65,900 tutors listed
  • No training for tutors — which leads to uneven quality of instruction
  • Families are hiring individual tutors, which means tutor qualifications vary enormously , and there are no guarantees
  • Choosing the right tutor out of 65,000+ is one more task for busy families

#6 – Learn to Be

Our Verdict — Best Free Tutoring (for qualifying families) Price: free (or voluntary contribution of $9–30 per month) Learn to Be is a fantastic non-profit organization improving education for underserved youth in the US. Students work with the same tutor consistently, which allows them to build a strong relationship and allows for mentoring as well as learning. Students working with Learn to Be have seen an average increase in test scores of 15.8% and an average GPA increase of 1.6 — nearly two full letter grades (for example from a C to an A-)! Tutors are volunteers who are passionate about educational equity, and range from current high school and college students to professionals or retirees. The program works primarily with foster youth, homeless youth, and other lower-income families. Possible qualifications for free tutoring with Learn to Be include: student attends a Title 1 school, receives free or reduced lunch at school, comes from a single-parent home, is a foster child, is homeless, or qualifies for food stamps. It’s possible to work with a Spanish-speaking tutor through Learn to Be.

  • Students who qualify for free tutoring (foster youth or low-income families).
  • Non-profit helping underserved youth
  • Completely free tutoring for qualifying families
  • Students work with the same tutor consistently, which builds trust and leads to a better individualized educational experience
  • Tutor qualifications vary — some tutors are high school students as young as 14 years old, and all tutors are volunteers
  • Only for qualifying youth in the US (low income or foster youth)

#7 – Schoolhouse

Our Verdict — Best Free Peer Math Tutoring Price: free While Learn to Be provides free or low-cost tutoring to only qualifying families, Schoolhouse is free and available to any student age 13+. Created by Sal Khan, who is also the founder of well-known educational non-profit Khan Academy , Schoolhouse is an innovative platform for peer tutoring. Students who are strong in math can take a short test to check their knowledge. Qualified students can then volunteer to host small-group tutoring sessions online to help their peers who might be struggling. Schoolhouse’s peer tutoring is designed to reinforce and practice what students are learning in school. There’s no adult or experienced instructor leading the tutoring sessions, and all sessions are in groups open to any student worldwide to join, so we wouldn’t recommend it for students who need targeted help learning specific math concepts. However, it can be a fun way for students to practice math alongside their peers.

  • Students age 13+ who want to practice math problems in a group with their peers.
  • Tutor qualifications: current students age 13+ — students take a quiz to prove their knowledge but no other required qualifications
  • Completely free and open to any student worldwide age 13+
  • Students can work with their student peers , which some might find more approachable
  • Tutors are other young students and have no experience or qualifications
  • Small-group setting doesn’t provide individual attention to students
  • Not a substitute for learning guided by an experienced instructor
  • Only math , and not other subjects

Best of the Rest for Online Tutoring

#7 – princeton review /

Our Verdict — Disappointing Quality from Test-Prep Giant Price : lower-quality instant tutoring at $29–35/hour, minimum package $350; monthly subscription instant tutoring at $36–40/hour Back in 2014, acquired the well-known test-prep company The Princeton Review. (Note that the Princeton Review has no connection to Princeton University.) They now offer subject-area tutoring in over 80 different academic areas, including math. The range of tutoring options is a little confusing, but it basically breaks down to two different models: families can choose one-off tutoring packages of 10–50 “instant tutoring” hours that can be used over a six-month period, or a monthly subscription for 1–5 instant tutoring hours each month. Tutors are available 24/7 for instant sessions. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the quality of this offering from The Princeton Review. In contrast to their operations for standardized test prep (like SAT and ACT prep ), their platform for subject-area tutoring does not provide instructors with training, so there’s very little consistency. Tutors are also capped at 2 or 3 sessions per day, so they’re by design part-time instructors who are teaching a little on the side. While The Princeton Review / claims to count Ivy grads and experts with advanced degrees among their tutors, we found this to be misleading. Most of their tutors have only a BA, and most have graduated from local schools that are not even in the top 200 universities. Pay for tutors is minimum wage, so it’s difficult for them to attract good teaching talent. Surprisingly for The Princeton Review, their subject-area tutoring is a tutoring marketplace platform (similar to Wyzant ). Families select individual tutors to work with based on their bios and arrange the tutoring sessions individually. For us, this obviates the point of working with a large company like Princeton Review, where in theory the advantage is quality control and a standard curriculum, even if it comes with a more corporate feel. With this marketplace model, tutor quality and qualifications vary considerably, especially given that tutors do not receive any training or teaching materials.

  • Cost: Homework Help packages that can be used over a period of 6 months: $350 for 10 hours ($35/hr), $950 for 30 hours ($32/hr), or $1499.99 for 50 hours ($29/hr); Homework Help tutoring subscriptions: $40 for 1 hour each month, $115 for 3 hours each month ($38/hr), or $180 for 5 hours each month ($36/hr)
  • Reasonable pricing for tutoring and a range of payment models
  • Tutors are available 24/7 for instant Homework Help packages
  • Tutor qualifications vary — most are from local or state schools, not competitive colleges
  • Online platform is buggy and crashes frequently
  • Challenging for them to attract good teaching talent as pay is minimum wage
  • Low quality of teaching , surprising for a big-name player in test prep

#8 – ArborBridge

Our Verdict: Pricey Service with Mystery Tutors Price: $165+/hour, minimum package $2400 for 15 hours Featuring crisp, minimalist visuals and a younger team, ArborBridge calls itself “the next generation of test prep.” They’ve always been remote and online, so they haven’t suffered the growing pains with the shift to online learning that many competitors with outdated platforms (like Pearson and Princeton Review ) have experienced. That said, their tutoring is quite expensive! Their rate is always at least $160 per hour, and the minimum package is a hefty $2400 for 15 hours of tutoring. They also advertise a “concierge” tutoring service with a more customized experience — price upon request. Is it worth the price? We’re not so sure. ArborBridge claims to have hired the “best” tutors but they do not list any specific qualifications for their tutors or provide any bios for their tutor roster. On their (slightly-defunct) Instagram page they have provided some fun facts about a few of their tutors, but they don’t list any educational background, years of experience, or relevant professional credentials, just favorite foods and television shows. There’s no indication that their tutors have graduated from top colleges, have teaching experience, or any other relevant qualifications — unlike services like PrepMaven or Tutoring Service of New York that only hire Ivy-League tutors. In fact, our sources have mentioned that their tutors don’t receive much training prior to teaching. They also, unlike the Princeton Review, don’t offer any guarantees for raising grades or scores. In the end, we’re not sure why ArborBridge has such high prices without offering particularly high-quality tutoring in return. Their website looks nice, though!

  • Cost: $160/hour, minimum package is $2400 for 15 hours (+ 1 bonus hour); $4800 for 30 hours (+ 3 bonus hours); $7200 for 45 hours (+ 6 bonus hours) — or “concierge tutoring” with “highest level of hands-on care,” price upon request
  • Tutor qualifications: unknown
  • Known for good customer service
  • Younger, more modern tutoring service that’s built with technology from the get-go
  • Expensive , with a minimum cost of $2400 for 15 hours of tutoring
  • No information about tutor qualifications provided
  • No guarantees for grade or score raises
  • Seems more design than substance

#9 – Learner

Our Verdict — Tutoring that Includes ESL Learners Price: $55–80/hour, minimum $400 package Learner is another newer online tutoring platform. Unlike many of the other services on this list, Learner also provides tutoring services to adults, especially for non-native English speakers. While they advertise that their tutors have degrees from “top universities,” it seems that the only necessary qualification for tutors at Learner is a college degree (not just from top schools). We found their sign-up sequence to be frustrating. New clients start by answering a series of questions about their students. While it repeatedly seems like they’ll show a selection of tutors that may be a match, this is a bait-and-switch tactic, and they never display any actual tutor profiles. Instead, new clients must first make a payment before they can view any tutor details. Learner has a “satisfaction guarantee,” which simply means that they’ll allow families to request a switch to another tutor if it’s not a good fit. Their rates are on the pricier side for “average” tutors who do not have teaching experience or degrees from elite universities.

  • Cost: $400 for 5 hours ($80/hour), $700 for 10 hours ($70/hour), $1200 for 20 hours ($60/hour), or $1650 for 30 hours ($55/hour)
  • Explicitly offers tutoring for ESL learners
  • No specific tutor qualifications beyond a college degree
  • Prices are high given quality of service

#10 – Revolution Prep

Our Verdict — High Rates Price: $132/hour, minimum $1578 for 12 hours Revolution Prep is a larger platform providing online tutoring with a focus on interactive learning. Revolution Prep is a larger platform providing online tutoring with a focus on interactive learning. While they used to offer more affordable small-group classes, they no longer do so for math tutoring.. Their individual tutoring rate of $132/hour is quite high, especially given the backgrounds of their instructors. While we like that all of their tutors are full-time staff, versus tutoring part-time alongside another career, their tutors do not have any other specific qualifications. These rates are comparable or higher than other services that provide more customized learning with Ivy-League tutors, like PrepMaven or select tutors on Wyzant..

  • Cost: individual tutoring $132/hour, minimum $1578 for 12 hours
  • Tutor qualifications: none specified
  • All tutors are full-time staff
  • Small-group tutoring provides lower prices
  • No specific qualifications for tutors
  • Tutoring rates are high for the type of service

#11 – Tutoring Service of New York

Our Verdict — New Service with Higher Minimum Package Price: $112–160/hour ($1200 5-session minimum) Founded by a former tutor with the now-defunct Ivy Global tutoring service, the new Tutoring Service of New York offers subject-area tutoring online. Most of their tutors are current graduate students, many at Columbia University and NYU. The higher prices of the Tutoring Service of New York reflect the more elite educational background of the tutors. However, their minimum of $1200 for at least 5 sessions is high, especially since many other services have smaller minimum packages (compare $510 minimum at PrepMaven or $450 minimum at The Princeton Review ), or else allow families to purchase one-off tutoring sessions ( Pearson , Skooli , and others).

  • Cost: $1200 for five 90-minute sessions; $2000 for 10 sessions; $2700 for 16 sessions
  • Tutor qualifications:  college graduates, mostly current graduate students at Columbia or NYU
  • Qualified tutors with mostly Ivy-League backgrounds
  • New service , so client reviews are still limited
  • Higher minimum tutoring packages

#12 – Mathnasium

Our Verdict — Tutoring Franchise to Help with Math Homework Price: varies (franchise), typically $200–425/month Math is one of the most important core subjects, and so it’s not surprising that there are learning programs devoted specifically to math. Mathnasium is a franchise with locations throughout the US and even internationally. As their name might suggest, they’re focused on fostering math skills only. Pricing varies by franchise location and by grade level, but most Mathnasium centers offer a flat monthly fee that allows students to attend math tutoring sessions regularly (whether online or in person), usually two or three times per week. While other programs might focus on drills and exercises, Mathnasium typically focuses on helping students with their math homework and other math assignments. Mathnasium does not assign homework or create customized curricula for students. One significant downside of Mathnasium’s approach is that students do not necessarily get to work with the same tutor each time. This disrupts continuity and makes it harder for students to learn, since a good tutor will track students’ progress over time and create assignments that target the needs of each individual student. There are also no specific qualifications for math tutors, so there’s no guarantee that the tutors are great teachers or have a high level of expertise in math. Since each of the Mathnasium centers is locally owned and operated, the customer service experience can vary significantly.

  • Cost: varies (franchise), typically $200–425/month (costs are higher for high school levels)
  • Math tutor qualifications: none specified
  • Focus on math , and can help students understand their math homework and other school assignments
  • Tutoring isn’t necessarily one-on-one
  • Not the same tutor every time , which is not ideal for learning
  • Covers only math , while some other tutoring services can provide tutoring for other subjects as well
  • Tutors do not have any specific qualifications

#13 – Kumon

Our Verdict — Tutoring Franchise Drilling Math and Reading Basics Price: varies (franchise), typically $100–200/month Kumon is an international tutoring franchise that focuses on reaching math and reading through rote memorization. Founded by Toru Kumon in Japan in 1958, Kumon centers all follow the same learning approach based on worksheets that very gradually increase in difficulty. Students enrolled in Kumon’s program begin with a diagnostic assessment for math and reading comprehension skills. They are then usually placed in a level lower than where they scored , so that they can reinforce existing skills with additional practice. However, this also means that students have to spend time on material that they have already learned. Students at Kumon are not able to bring in homework or material from their current classes for additional help. Instead, all Kumon sessions focus on the rigid Kumon material. The goal of the Kumon Method  is “to teach students to learn independently,” and so instructors observe students as they complete worksheets and provide guidance. Students are also assigned homework from Kumon, in order to continue practicing at home. Students typically receive about 30 minutes of homework per day. Since each of the Kumon centers is locally owned and operated, the customer service experience can vary significantly. Pricing also varies by location, but runs typically about $100–200 per month. Students are encouraged to attend Kumon sessions twice per week.

  • Cost: varies (franchise), typically $100–200/month (costs are higher for high school levels)
  • Tutor qualifications: high school graduates
  • Repetition of core skills can lead to a thorough understanding of the basics
  • Rigid curriculum is not personalized for the learning styles and speeds of each student
  • Rote repetition and endless worksheets may be boring or frustrating for students
  • Students can’t bring in outside homework for help with their current classes
  • Assigns a lot of extra work for students (typically 30 minutes of homework daily)

#14 – Varsity Tutors

Our Verdict — Uneven Quality Without Budget Pricing Price: $70-100/hour Varsity Tutors is an enormous tutoring platform offering online instruction in all academic subjects and test prep, including writing. These days their marketing has been ubiquitous! However, Varsity Tutors’ size has many downsides — most notably, very uneven quality of teaching. Tutors at Varsity need only a high school degree, and there is no requirement for tutors to have a college degree or teaching experience, let alone a top-tier educational background or professional writing credentials. Tutors can join the Varsity team very quickly and are paid lower rates than nearly any other tutoring company (just $12–15 for sessions that cost families up to $95), so it’s difficult for Varsity to attract and retain good talent. Lucky families might get assigned a good tutor, but that’s not at all assured. Varsity Tutors also does not provide any tutor materials, curriculum, or training, so it’s up to individual tutors to create everything from scratch, contributing further to the unevenness of quality. With rates higher than the competition with similar types of tutors (no specific qualifications beyond a college degree), Varsity is significantly overpriced. We’d recommend that families either consider a more budget-friendly option that would offer the same quality as Varsity in the $30–40/hour price range, or else consider a service like PrepMaven (starting at $79/hour) or Tutoring Service of New York (starting at $112/hour) that pairs students with highly-qualified tutors with advanced degrees and Ivy-League backgrounds.

  • Cost: $ 70-100/hour
  • Large number of tutors , so certain to find a tutor to fit your schedule
  • No education or training requirements for tutors , along with low pay rates for instructors, means tutors are less-qualified than alternative tutoring services
  • Uneven teaching quality due to lack of resources for instruction
  • Overpriced given the lack of required qualifications for tutors

#15 – Preply

Our Verdict — Lower-Cost Tutoring Marketplace Platform Price: $5–40/hour Preply is a lower-cost marketplace platform. It’s significantly smaller than Wyzant . Among those tutors listed, most don’t have high educational backgrounds. Preply is a more international platform, and some of the tutors are from other countries or located outside the US. One benefit of Preply’s platform is that rates are very low, ranging from $5/hour to $40/hour. These rates are actually comparable or higher than the pay rates for most of the larger platforms on our list (like Pearson , The Princeton Review , Varsity Tutors , and TutaPoint ), so don’t necessarily take these numbers on their own as indications of lower quality — just that tutors are earning a larger share. That said, the tutoring available through Preply does appear to be lower-quality than other options.

  • Cost: $5–40/hour, depending on rates set by individual tutors
  • Tutor qualifications:  varies
  • F amilies can choose individual tutors on their marketplace platform
  • No specific qualifications for tutors and no quality control
  • Task of choosing the right tutor can be stressful

#16 – Chegg

Our Verdict — Message Board Help with Math Questions and Essays Price: $20 per month Chegg is one of the biggest tutoring platforms, so families may be familiar with their name already. We should note that they’ve pivoted several times in the past few years, so their service may have changed from what families have read. Whereas previously (first as InstaEDU, then as Chegg Tutors) Chegg offered live tutoring instruction online, Chegg no longer offers one-on-one tutoring . Instead, they now offer two subscription levels that allow students to view instructional videos, access answer keys for common textbooks, and receive asynchronous written feedback to homework questions. These questions are primarily answered by “subject matter experts” located in India. Their “Chegg Study Pack” includes the option to submit papers for limited written feedback with a 48-hour turnaround time. Students can submit up to 15 short papers per month, up to 3000 words each (about 6 pages double-spaced). That said, this is not the same as active writing tutoring with live discussion and exercises directly with a tutor. The written feedback provided by Chegg’s essay review service is limited. Moreover, the essay reviews are done by different tutors every time, so there’s no opportunity to grow through working with one tutor consistently. This service might work for students who want merely a quick check of their grammar or other small details on school assignments and don’t care about long-term improvements as a writer. Read more about the best online writing tutoring services here . With their Chegg Study Pack subscription, students can also post up to 20 math questions per month and receive a written step-by-step solution to the problem within 24 hours. This is not the same as active tutoring with live discussion and exercises directly with a tutor. The written math help provided by Chegg’s essay review service is very limited. Moreover, the math problem answers are written by different tutors every time, so there’s no opportunity to grow through working with one tutor consistently. Honestly, this service is little better than posting a math question to a helpful community forum, and it’s hard to see how it’s worth the monthly subscription fee.

  • Cost: $15 per month for Chegg Study subscription, which provides homework resources only; $20 per month for Chegg Study Pack subscription which provides essay reviews (up to 15 short papers per month, up to 3000 words each) and math question help in addition to the homework resources
  • Students can get help with specific math questions within a 24-hour turnaround time
  • Large number of written essay reviews per month , up to 15 short essays
  • Limited to 20 math questions per month
  • Asynchronous, written feedback is not an effective way to learn
  • No education or training requirements for tutors , and no information about who the essay or math question reviewers are

What can students learn with online tutoring?

Students can find online tutoring for any subject, from fundamentals in reading, writing , and math to advanced high school APs or college-level subjects.

Of course, many tutoring services offer SAT and ACT test prep or coaching through the college essay writing process .

Online tutoring has also allowed students to connect with tutors for more niche subjects like creative writing , Italian language, statistical analysis, coding, gender studies, molecular biology, the sociology of fan fiction… with the internet, it’s possible to find a specialized instructor for just about anything!

Some marketplace platforms like Wyzant or Preply allow families to search for and select individual tutors by subject-area expertise.

Other more boutique educational services like PrepMaven or the Tutoring Service of New York might be able to find and pair students with an elite Ivy-League tutor in that particular subject.

An experienced tutor can also create enrichment projects for students to supplement their school curriculum and provide positive challenges and growth opportunities that can allow students to distinguish themselves in prestigious competitions and on college applications .

As class sizes continue to increase each year, even well-meaning teachers are unable to provide individualized attention to their students, and more advanced or gifted students are often left feeling bored and unchallenged in their classes. A great tutor can meet a student at their level and help them reach new heights.

Building Skills for College Admissions Tests (PSAT, SAT, and ACT)

Many students are focused on college admissions, which can have a significant impact on their opportunities for the rest of their lives.

The SAT and ACT standardized tests remain an important part of college applications in the US. Even with some schools creating temporary test-optional admissions policies during the Covid-19 pandemic, high test scores are still the norm at top schools throughout the US, and (apart from at a small handful of test-blind schools) a good SAT or ACT score will always improve a student’s chances of admission.

And, according to US News , more and more elite schools are once again requiring submission of SAT or ACT scores as part of the application process. If you’re thinking about applying to schools like MIT or Dartmouth later on, you’ll need to have impressive SAT or ACT scores to stand a shot.

best online college homework help

Both the SAT and ACT measure “college readiness” and test students on their abilities in math, reading, and writing. The ACT also includes a section on science, which focuses on students’ abilities to evaluate experiments and interpret data.

SAT section range from 200 to 800. To give an idea of what kind of SAT scores students might need, the average SAT score at the Ivy League is between 1450 and 1570 , and the average SAT score at the top 50 public universities is between 1320 and 1500 .

Meanwhile, ACT scores range from 2 to 36, and the average ACT score at the Ivy League is between 33 and 35 .

While a great SAT or ACT score alone won’t get you into the Ivy League or another top-tier university, it’s very hard to get into a top-tier school without strong scores on the SAT or ACT .

Furthermore, high test scores can win students big scholarships through programs like the National Merit competition .

With scholarships worth $300,000 on the line, there’s a lot of incentive for students to strengthen their core math, reading, and writing skills!

What makes a good online tutor?

A good tutor should be an amazing teacher with experience, a strong educational background, and the ability to plan customized exercises that target an individual student’s weak spots .

Look for experienced tutors with strong educational backgrounds (i.e. who attended top universities) who have specific training in teaching that subject .

Studies have shown that students will learn better when they can establish a relationship with their tutor . Look for a tutoring service where students can continue with the same tutor and build a sense of rapport.

Best overall: The one-on-one tutoring from PrepMaven is the best out there both in terms of tutor quality and price. While PrepMaven’s tutors can certainly help with school assignments, they can also create targeted practice to fill any gaps in a student’s current knowledge. Starting at just $79/hour, students can work with current undergraduates at Princeton, Harvard, and other Ivy-League universities to improve their skills. Families can also work with experienced, professional educators and Ivy-League graduates at $149/hour. As a boutique tutoring service, PrepMaven offers careful attention to each student and boasts amazing customer reviews.

Best of the big companies: StudyPoint offers a solid balance of cost to tutor qualifications. We like their responsiveness and their flexibility. While we’re not huge fans of the fact that their tutors might not be subject-area experts and may not come from elite colleges, we’d recommend StudyPoint over other tutoring giants like Kaplan or Princeton Review.

Best super-quick tutoring: If students want short-term tutoring available instantly, they might consider Skooli . Skooli is the only tutoring service we reviewed that offers tutoring by the minute. Tutors aren’t necessarily from top schools, and students can’t work with the same tutor consistently, so the quality of tutoring is lower, but on-demand tutoring can start as soon as you enter your credit card details.

Alternative for families on a budget: For families on a tighter budget, we’d suggest looking for an independent tutor on Wyzant . It’s a tutoring marketplace platform, so the quality varies hugely and there’s no oversight or qualification requirements, but you might find a decent tutor under $40/hour. However, in our experience a good tutor can accomplish more with a student in one hour than an average tutor can do in five hours . With that in mind, it might be more effective to choose fewer hours of reliably high-quality tutoring.

5 Best Homework Help Websites You Should Know Going Back to School

Updated: October 13, 2023

Published: December 23, 2019

Balancing everything that school throws your way can feel like a challenging task. But you’re not alone! The internet has plenty of resources to assist, including some of the best homework help websites. Homework help sites range from offering textbook solutions to providing access to online tutors who are there to help with your specific needs.

When studying to become the best student you can be, it’s natural to need assistance. As such, you can look to some of these sites to help you better succeed in completing your homework and learning necessary material.

Homework websites for students.

Let’s dive right into some of the different types of websites, including homework help websites for college students, as well as students of all other levels.

1. Top Homework Helper

This site provides students with access to over 3,000 tutors who are available to help solve homework problems across an array of subjects, including: Science, Geometry, Accounting, History, Finance, Physics, Chemistry, College Homework, and more. With tutors that support middle school to college-level courses, the live tutoring and 24/7 customer support provides students with a valuable asset.

2. Khan Academy

Khan Academy is an online, free and non-profit provider of education. Students can choose from an impressive list of subjects that span from all levels, including early math to AP Biology and more. The site even offers help with test prep for the SAT , ACT, MCAT, GMAT and other college-level entrance exams.

3. Study Geek

Oftentimes, it is math that challenges most students. For this reason, Study Geek offers help solely in all levels of math. From Trigonometry to Calculus, Statistics to Algebra and more, this site leverages those who have earned their PhD in Mathematics to assist students. The options to learn include math games, vocabulary, and other lessons.

Similar to Top Homework Helper, provides students with access to tutors. Every session is tailored to your needs as you receive your own personal tutor to help you with school for levels K-12 and college. The tutors are PhD graduates and Ivy League school teachers, professors, doctors, and more.

Chegg Study, also known as Cramster, provides students with homework help through offering solutions for your textbook and homework problems. The site also provides expert Q&A sessions and 30 minutes of free tutoring online. A searchable forum exists with questions that have previously been asked by students, which means that your answers may even be waiting for you when you arrive to the site.

A note of caution.

When seeking help online for homework or writing assignments, you may be tempted to let someone else do the work for you. However, that is considered cheating and/or plagiarism, and it results in serious consequences, such as being expelled.

Even when you feel like you cannot gather the strength to write a paper or complete an assignment, or you are worried you will fail, you must not give up. Instead, you can leverage resources like online tutors, family and friends, mentors, peers , professors, and teacher’s assistants.

It’s always in your own best interest to try to complete your own assignments. After all, that’s why you’re getting an education!

Some Extra Study Tips

Along with homework comes the need to study for exams. Homework acts as supplementary work to reiterate all the material you learn in your classes and prepare you on a consistent basis for an upcoming exam, as well as to retain the information.

Here are a few study tips that are useful for students of all ages and academic levels.

1. Note-Taking 101

Note-taking is more of an art than a science. When you are in class, whether it be online or in person, it’s important to take notes. But you don’t want to write everything down, so be aware of key topics and bold headlines, as well as lists. Take the main idea from each lesson and write it down in your own words.

Another useful tip for note-taking is to use different colors. You can use colors to either highlight or write, and this can be done strategically so that, for example, all dates are in red, all vocabulary words are in blue, etc. It’s an easy way for your mind to recognize and categorize different tidbits of information for better recall.

2. Read Out Loud

There are different types of learners — some are visual, others are auditory, for example. If you find yourself to be an auditory learner, which means you remember best when you hear something, then try reading to yourself out loud.

Another good time to read out loud is when you write a paper or complete homework that is a writing assignment. Oftentimes, our brain can see a typo and skip over it, but when you read it out loud, you are more likely to hear the mistake and be able to make the correction.

3. Time Management

Time management is an essential part of life, especially when you are a student. Be sure to write down homework deadlines and test dates so you can prepare in advance. Another benefit to writing down your deadlines and test dates in a planner is so that you won’t forget them.

When you have your assignments listed, it’s also easier to ask for help and manage your time. If you need help in a specific subject, you can reference one of the resources above and get in contact with a tutor or further study the subject matter before the assignment is due or the test date arrives.

The Bottom Line

Homework is not meant to be scary, and it doesn’t exist to waste your time or stress you out. Instead, it is there to better prepare you to retain course information so you can continue to build on what you already know.

However, it’s normal to need homework help, and while some people may use their family or friends for help, others need more in-depth assistance. Around-the-clock online homework help solutions are there for your every need. A wide variety exists so that no matter what level you are at and what subject you need help with, you will be able to find a subject matter expert that is there for you!

The best free homework help websites for students

Most people assume they need to pay for a tutor to get the best homework help.

But getting a tutor can cost a fair amount, especially if you’re an international student.

Tutors in the US charge between US$25 to US$80 per hour teaching standard K-12 subjects like Math, English and Science.

Tutoring centres can charge between US$100 to US$200 per month for weekly sessions.

Of course, these rates vary according to the subject. For example, tutoring rates for SAT and test prep can range between US$45 to US$100 per hour, according to .

The more advanced the subject, the more expensive the tutors are

If you’re a student on a budget, hiring a private tutor isn’t the most practical solution. But that doesn’t mean you can’t study well on your own.

All it takes is determination and knowing where to look for free online resources.

If you’re looking for the best homework help that won’t cost you a single cent, bookmark these lifesaving websites now:

Students can choose from an impressive list of subjects that span all levels, including early maths to AP Biology and more.

Khan Academy even offers help with test prep for the SAT, ACT, MCAT, GMAT and other college-level entrance exams.

All resources on the website are also translated into more than 36 languages to increase access globally.

Another highly recommended site for the best homework help online is Quizlet . It’s so popular that every two in three students in the US use it to help them learn better outside classes.

Quizlet hosts solutions in over 60 subjects ranging from philosophy, sociology, algebra, computer science and languages.  There are in-depth explanations that use step-by-step explanations to show students how to solve complex problems.

One of their greatest features is The Flashcards tool which helps students prepare for their assignments and quizzes.  Students can create their own interactive flashcards and study sets or use pre-made ones shared by other students and learners.

Quizlet is also available as a mobile app for both iOS and Android devices.

Brainly is an app and a website that offers some of the best homework help online for subjects such as Math, Social Studies, World Languages, Computer Science, Arts, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, among others.

Unlike the other tools listed above, Brainly is a peer-to-peer network of questions. This means answers are provided by other students, tutors, PhDs, and teachers.

This open-style forum space doesn’t have a set of answers laid out or a group of professionals giving answers. Rather, students can post a question and, hopefully, get an answer from the community of others in education.

Since the answers are moderated by a group of volunteers made up of teachers and other users, Brainly uses a green check mark to show answers that have been verified by the Brainly subject experts so you can rely on that as being more accurate than some others might be.

2024 Homework Help Site Reviews

Top Consumer Reviews Best-In-Class Blue Ribbon Award

  • Pricing from $15 to $60
  • Tutors have advanced degrees in their major fields of study
  • Synchronous and asynchronous learning
  • Online library for questions answered previously
  • No monthly fees or minimum payments
  • Average rating of 4.9 out of 5 stars
  • "A+" rating and accreditation from the BBB

24HourAnswers is an academic site that was established in 2005 and is currently headquartered in New York. The company prioritizes the academic needs of students across the globe through two services: asynchronous homework assistance and live, online tutoring through its whiteboard platform.

Choose your budget

24HourAnswers distinguishes itself by providing a 24/7 platform where students can submit questions related to various subjects. The best part? You can choose your budget, so you'll only get matched with tutors or helpers that fit your needs.

Multiple ways to get answers

Getting started with 24HourAnswers is simple. You can start right away by filling out a question form. Once you do that, you'll be prompted to create a free account. Once logged in, you can also look for live tutoring or homework help sessions, upload documents, and submit questions for a written solution. Tutors respond promptly, often within a few minutes. One of the best parts of this service is that you can set your own due dates to get the answers you need before the deadline on your actual homework.

Best Homework Help Sites

Live meetings or asynchronous answers

You can find assistance in a range of topics including math, organic chemistry, economics, accounting, finance, computer programming, writing, psychology, engineering, biology, physics, and more. You can opt for one-on-one sessions, where you can request the same tutor for future assistance. After each session, you can rate your tutors, facilitating 24HourAnswers in maintaining a high standard of tutoring quality. Live sessions are recorded for your future reference. Or, you can submit your question online to be answered asynchronously if you don't have time to commit to a whole session. Finally, you can always look up your problem in the homework library on the website for topics that have already been answered by the company.

Master's degrees and PhDs for tutors

In terms of pedigree, 24HourAnswers has impressive requirements for its tutors. All tutors possess degrees in their respective fields. Most of them hold master's degrees and many of them hold doctorates. 24HourAnswers doesn't hire any tutors that aren't fully qualified in the subject they're teaching.

Priced per session

Rather than a monthly subscription model, 24HourAnswers charges you based on individual work orders. Things that can change pricing include session duration, task complexity, tutor expertise, and the time available before the homework deadline. Upfront pricing details are provided, allowing you to decide whether to proceed with the service. Tutors aim to offer fair and realistic quotes, with potential flexibility based on specific budget constraints. And, if you want to limit the options to resources that are within your budget, you can select from 4 different budget ranges. You can choose from $15 to $25, $25 to $45, $45 to $60, and $60+.

Refunds through a review process

Refund requests are infrequent, according to feedback from happy students. However, you can request a refund if you feel it's necessary. However, usually the student and tutor need to agree on the situation where a refund is possible. If there is a disagreement, an impartial evaluation from 24HourAnswers will assess whether the student received the expected assistance. Refunds, if issued, are returned to the original payment method.

Top-notch reputation

24HourAnswers is owned by Parker Paradigms Inc., and this parent company stands out with a stellar "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. On top of that, students have left tons of reviews for 24HourAnswers. Across multiple review sites, the average rating is an impressive 4.9 stars out of 5. Praise includes comments about 24HourAnswers' "unmatched professionalism" and extremely helpful details for a variety of courses including foreign languages and college prep. It's genuinely hard to find anything negative about 24HourAnswers, solidifying this company's reputation as a top-notch education resource.

#1 rating for 24HourAnswers

With overwhelmingly positive reviews from students, multiple learning methods, and pricing that fits any budget, 24HourAnswers stands out as a professional and comprehensive educational service. The pay-per-question model is flexible and takes every budget into account. With impressive tutors on their roster with advanced degrees, you can trust the expertise of 24HourAnswers. For these reasons, 24HourAnswers comes in as the top competitor for Homework Help in our review with a perfect 5-star rating.

Khan Academy Review

Free to use

  • AI tutoring available
  • Asynchronous learning
  • Average rating of 4 out of 5 stars

Established in 2007, Khan Academy operates as a non-profit organization committed to providing free education by offering practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard. Their core objective is skill mastery, focusing on helping learners build robust foundations for continuous learning. While some of their offerings might be more limited than other homework help sites, there's a wide variety of grade levels including up to college-level work. Plus as a free resource, Khan Academy stands out from the pack.

Easy and gamified approach

Getting started with Khan Academy is super easy. You just need to select the grade level and subject and jump right in. As learners engage with Khan Academy's courses, they accumulate "master points," creating a fun gamified approach to hold students' attention. After each unit, a test evaluates their comprehension of the acquired skills.

Supports all grade levels and exams

Khan Academy offers support to K-12 subjects like math, science, history, and language arts. It also aids students in test preparation for exams such as the LSAT, SAT, and Praxis. You can even find support for college-level courses at Khan Academy. The platform categorizes courses by grade and topic, offering a broad array of high school and college-level math courses, economics classes, arts and humanities topics, and life skills courses.

Best Homework Help Sites

Head start to learning

Notably, Khan Academy provides "get ready" courses for 3rd-8th graders, offering an overview of upcoming learning materials and a head start on essential skills - a valuable option for students to strengthen their foundations during the summer break. As another bonus, Khan Academy consistently expands its platform by incorporating new courses. Recent additions encompass "get ready" units for AP calculus, high school statistics, high school biology, AP/college chemistry, high school and AP/college physics, and AP/college environmental science. As donations flow in, Khan Academy grows its platform by maintaining up-to-date information to deliver optimal free online education.

No tutors, but AI learning included

Now, as a free service, Khan Academy doesn't offer person-to-person tutoring. However, you can use the new Khanmigo tool, which offers personalized AI tutoring from Khan Academy. This can be used by students to help guide their study or as a tool for teachers to support learning in the classroom.

One of the best advantages of Khan Academy is its accessibility to anyone completely for free. Whether you're looking for help with a specific class or support getting ready for a college exam, Khan Academy serves as a valuable, cost-free resource. Many reviewers said they felt they gained more knowledge on this platform than through an entire semester or year of traditional in-person classes. And since there's no cost associated with Khan Academy, you don't have to worry about refunds.

Best Homework Help Sites

Solid reputation with educators and students

The impact of Khan Academy extends globally, providing invaluable resources not only to students within traditional educational systems but also reaching children in regions lacking access to formal education. While there isn't a Better Business Bureau page for Khan Academy since it's a non-profit rather than a business, there are plenty of reviews to look at online. From review sites that focus on teacher and student demographics, both groups are extremely happy with the service, awarding Khan Academy an average of 4 stars overall. From other third-party sites like Trustpilot and Sitejabber, the reviews show similar feedback with an average rating of 3.5 stars out of 5.

Best free solution for homework help

While Khan Academy primarily functions as a self-guided resource, offering substantial benefits, some students may prefer access to one-on-one tutors or assistance with particularly challenging homework questions. With the new AI tool, there are also ways to get help from Khan Academy with more guidance. However, if you're looking for one-on-one help from a teacher or tutor, Khan Academy isn't going to be your first pick. But if you're looking for a free resource with K-12 and college-level homework help, Khan Academy is the top no-cost option out there. For this reason, it gets a strong recommendation in our review.

Chegg Review

  • Pricing from $14.95
  • Extra costs for extra questions
  • Tutors have college degrees
  • Video and asynchronous Q&A
  • 7-day return policy
  • "B+" rating from the BBB

Founded in 2002, Chegg stands as a multifaceted platform offering textbook rentals, test prep materials, homework help, and more. Popular with college students especially as a more affordable option for textbooks (rather than buying them directly from their university), Chegg is a popular name in academia. With the Chegg learning services, you can prep with college-level materials as well as homework help for high school. The primary part of Chegg that's relevant to Homework Help services is the Chegg Study program.

Get started right away

Getting started is extremely simple at Chegg. The main page has a huge search bar where you can quickly type in your questions. You can also upload your question via a photo of your homework (especially helpful if you have complex math problems to work through). If you're looking specifically for Homework Help, you can check out the Study tab on the main site. Here you have two options: Textbook Explanations and Expert Q&As.

Video help and quick questions

Chegg offers a variety of tutoring services across various subjects such as accounting, algebra, biology, calculus, chemistry, economics, finance, physics, and statistics, targeting high school and college-level courses. Chegg extends 24/7 homework help, priding itself on an average response time of 46 minutes from the moment a student submits a question. If you want to use the Textbook Explanations feature, this will be a video walkthrough with your exact textbook helping you to solve problems in the book step by step. If you choose Expert Q&As, you can expect quick answers by just snapping a picture of your homework question and one of Chegg's on-staff tutors will help you out.

Best Homework Help Sites

College degree or better to work at Chegg

While finding details about the qualifications of Chegg's "experts" is unclear on the website itself, looking at Chegg's job offerings shows that they require at least a college degree in the subject the tutors are helping out with. In some cases with more advanced subjects, tutors and homework helpers are required to take additional exams through Chegg to prove they're knowledgeable in updated methodologies or degree-related practices.

$14.95 per month

Chegg works on a subscription basis. A subscription to Chegg Study which includes the Homework Help, tutoring, and other features comes at a monthly cost of $14.95, providing full access. The subscription includes 20 homework questions per month. Questions beyond the allotted 20 can be purchased separately, although the pricing details for this service are not explicitly outlined on the website. Regrettably, Chegg lacks a demo or free trial for its textbook solutions tool, which offers step-by-step explanations and guided video walkthroughs. So, you'll have to join the program to test it out. While you can cancel at any time, that lack of a preview is a little frustrating.

7-day refund policy

If you're not happy with the tutoring services you get from Chegg, there's a Study Guarantee program in place. This means you can reach out to Chegg within seven days of your first session, sharing why you're dissatisfied with the service. Chegg will then carefully review your case and, if they agree, you'll get a refund. While this isn't as concrete as some other guarantees, we're happy to see that Chegg now offers this refund option as it wasn't clearly defined the last time we reviewed the company.

Best Homework Help Sites

Reputation has risen in recent years

Chegg previously lacked a rating from the Better Business Bureau, so in that respect, we're impressed by how far the company has come. Chegg has brought its rating to a "B+" from the BBB, which is much more reliable. However, it still has mid-tier ratings from third-party review sites. Although these student reviews are primarily centered on textbook rentals, we have seen a gradual improvement. On the other hand, feedback on homework help resources is relatively scarce. Some reviews highlight concerns that Chegg prioritizes providing quick answers over comprehensive explanations during tutoring sessions, potentially limiting thorough understanding of the material.

Solid option but could be more transparent

Chegg Study presents itself as a potential resource for students seeking prompt solutions to homework problems. The platform allows you to ask specific questions and receive step-by-step instructions or quickly find textbook answers. While it offers practical assistance, it is a little less helpful than some other services that offer more transparency on what the services entail. Chegg Study appears suitable for obtaining swift solutions but may not be the optimal choice for in-depth concept immersion. It has raised its reputation in recent years, and is a go-to source for textbooks. For all these reasons, and its affordable pricing, Chegg earns a solid rating in our review.

The Princeton Review Review

  • Pricing from $39.99 to $339.99/month
  • Synchronous tutoring
  • Average rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars
  • "A-" rating and accreditation from the BBB

The Princeton Review has been a key player in supporting students with their education for over 35 years. Their primary focus is on providing test prep materials for college-level (and graduate school) exams such as the GRE, TOEFL, ACT, SAT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT, DAT, and more.

Great reputation for prep courses

Despite being acknowledged as relatively expensive, The Princeton Review is renowned for its highly recommended test prep courses that promise visible improvement in results. It also provides private one-on-one tutoring to address any homework queries. This is the only way to learn from this platform, so if you're looking for 24/7 help or asynchronous options, this site won't be ideal for you.

Get started with a free trial

Getting started at The Princeton Review is simple. All you need to do is click the "start free trial" button on the main page, and you can use the homework assistance and tutoring options right away. The trial offers 7 days free with a complimentary 30-minute tutoring session. This way, you can check out the tutoring style and begin addressing challenging homework questions before you have to make a payment decision. If you cancel the membership before the end of the 7-day trial period, you won't be charged anything.

Best Homework Help Sites

Range of services

While The Princeton Review specializes in college and post-grad exam prep, K-12 students can also benefit from one-on-one tutoring to receive assistance with AP tests and review various class materials. The Princeton Review offers homework help through personalized tutoring in over 80 subjects. Instead of providing standalone resources for independent use, such as a library of information for self-directed homework, their emphasis is on the effectiveness of tutoring. While this is a highly successful method for homework help, the personalized nature of tutoring comes at a substantial cost.

Lower qualification requirements

The qualifications for becoming a teacher with The Princeton Review are actually much more lax than some other companies in our review. Candidates to teach for The Princeton Review must live in the U.S. or Canada, and be at least 18 years old. Tutors need to successfully pass their qualifying exam and training, showcase strong oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to create a dynamic and interesting learning environment for students. These guidelines don't even require a high school diploma, which was surprising. However, for college-level exams, instructors must have or be currently pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher.

Four ways to pay monthly

So, the one complaint often seen for The Princeton Review is that it's pricey. While you can start with a free trial, that only lasts 1 week. And when you sign up, you'll have to commit to one of the amounts for tutoring on a monthly payment schedule. While plans can be altered or canceled at any time, the options include:

  • 1 hour at $39.99/month
  • 2 hours at $79.99/month
  • 3 hours at $114.99/month
  • 5 hours at $179.99/month
  • 10 hours at $339.99/month

The challenge with prepaying for a set number of hours per month lies in the difficulty of predicting the exact amount of tutoring you will actually require. This may lead to a feeling of obligation to utilize the tutor even when not necessary to avoid wasting money.

Best Homework Help Sites

Grade improvement guarantee

The Princeton Review offers a grade improvement assurance of at least half a letter grade (or three points) higher if your student is K-12 and attends 2 hours of tutoring per month in a single subject for three consecutive months. If you follow those particular guidelines but don't see the promised improvement, The Princeton Review promises a full refund of their services.

Solid reputation overall

With an "A-" rating from the Better Business Bureau and positive student reviews, The Princeton Review stands out as a valuable resource for those committed to their education and willing to invest in their learning. According to third-party review sites, The Princeton Review has an impressive average rating of 4.4 stars out of 5. Customers were particularly impressed by their tutors' knowledge and professionalism, so it appears that the hiring qualifications (or lack thereof) aren't a problem for The Princeton Review's quality of service.

Best if you want synchronous tutoring sessions

While the cost of tutoring and the need to plan hours in advance may require a little extra consideration, The Princeton Review is a solid homework help option that can guarantee results. Plus, if you're fond of synchronous tutoring sessions where you talk with another person, The Princeton Review is ideal for you. However, if you're interested in a mixed-mode learning style with asynchronous materials as well as tutoring, you may be disappointed with your options here.

Course Hero Review

  • Pricing from $119.40 per year or $59.85 per quarter
  • Tutors are screened on their subjects
  • Asynchronous Q&A style
  • AI-powered homework help
  • Online library
  • 30-day return policy
  • "A+" rating from the BBB

As the world of AI keeps expanding, it's little to no surprise that the technology is making its way into learning. There are a few options in our review that include AI in their homework help services, but Course Hero stands out from the rest by being almost entirely AI-powered.

Paid or free

The homework help program is offered under a paid or free membership depending on which features you want to use (and how many). You can work with the AI for a few questions for free or with an expert (which is covered only under the paid membership). However, if you're willing to work through your homework with an AI trained for education purposes, this might be a unique way to get help around the clock in a way that working with a human tutor can't.

AI answers questions 24/7

To use the homework help AI, all you have to do is upload your study documents. You can upload a photo, .docx, or PDF file for the AI to review. The AI will help you answer questions where you're stuck and provide answers and explanations directly on the document or file that you uploaded. The best part is this service is fully 24/7, so you can get help from your homework AI anytime you need it. You can get one question answered for free before you need to join a Course Hero membership.

One-stop shop for homework

So, on top of AI homework help, you can find extra help from Course Hero experts as well as the Course Hero online library. For the experts, you get 5 questions free before you have to subscribe to a membership. Like the AI, this service is also 24/7, so you can talk to an expert about your homework any time. Keep in mind this is an asynchronous service, so you won't be on video calls with a tutor. You can ask anything from high school to college level questions on a range of over 100 subjects. Then, there's the study resources. This includes school resources, textbook solutions, study guides, grammar checkers, and even a tool to help you paraphrase. With multiple ways to get the answers you need and some of them free (like the study resources), Course Hero offers an impressive one-stop shop.

Best Homework Help Sites

Experts are highly qualified

At Course Hero, you'll receive answers from a certified expert, specially trained in your field of study. Course Hero's team of over 2,600 tutors went through a comprehensive onboarding process that included a subject-specific application to assess their knowledge, an official check of their credentials to verify their background, and feedback from students to guarantee clear and thorough content. While they don't say if there's a degree requirement, the Course Hero tutor application process is extremely thorough.

Free and paid membership

Course Hero offers two memberships: a Basic Membership, available for free, and a paid Premier Membership with two billing periods. With the Basic Membership, you can access online tutors (the expert help option) at a separate cost. On the other hand, Premier members, who pay either a monthly or annual fee, get benefits like unlocking up to 30 documents and/or User Questions, full access to Textbook Solutions and Explanations in Course Hero's library, and the ability to receive answers on up to 40 Questions.

Plan details

For Course Hero's 3 plans, here are the details:

  • Basic plan: This plan doesn't cost anything, but you'll have limited access to study materials. You can access up to 3 documents per month, but you'll be missing out on premium content or 24/7 tutor support. (It is unclear if this includes the AI assistant).
  • Annual subscription: This plan costs $9.95 per month, billed annually at $119.40. This allows you unlimited access to study materials, including premium content, and 24/7 tutor support.
  • Quarterly subscription: This plan costs $19.95 per month, billed quarterly at $59.85. This offers the same features as the Annual subscription, but you'll pay a higher monthly fee.

As a bonus, both membership types allow you to earn "Unlocks" and extra questions you can ask for free by contributing study documents to Course Hero's library. For every 10 documents submitted, you can earn 5 unlocks or 3 questions (up to 9).

Best Homework Help Sites

30-day money-back guarantee

With Course Hero's Money Back Guarantee, you can get a full refund if you meet certain criteria. To qualify, you need to request a refund within 30 days of your purchase, and you should not have used more than five 5 subscription unlocks. This way you can use some unlocks and get a proper trial of what the site offers, but still cancel within a reasonable amount.

Tutors aren't happy with Course Hero

Course Hero has an impressive "A+" rating and accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. On the other hand, from third-party review sites, Course Hero doesn't do as well. Instead, it has an average star rating of 2.3 out of 5. Customers liked parts of the program, citing helpful experts and useful materials, but others were frustrated with problems like a sudden rise in fees or the difficulty accessing questions or services once they ran out of free ones (even with a paid membership). However, many of the poor reviews for Course Hero on Trustpilot and other third-party review sites are from tutors who work there rather than customers leaving reviews.

Solid option if you need help at all hours

While the appeal of a totally 24/7 service is amazing, there are a few things to keep in mind with Course Hero. First, the services are fairly limited if you don't want to pay for a monthly membership. And even if you do, there are some limitations to the number of questions you can ask per month. While you can earn other free questions, it's a little frustrating to have to "work" for the company to get more help with homework. However, the site offers highly comprehensive solutions with three different ways to get answers to your homework: AI, Experts, and Study Resources. So, if this is your cup of tea, make sure you check it out.

Wyzant Review

  • Free to use homework help
  • Tutoring from $35 to $155 per hour
  • Tutors all over 18
  • Synchronous tutoring and asynchronous Q&A

Established in 2005 by two Princeton graduates, Wyzant has nearly 20 years of experience, earning recognition through features in prominent media outlets. Wyzant, a platform dedicated to one-on-one learning, aims to provide accessible, affordable, and convenient educational experiences.

Compare tutors

Wyzant prioritizes your needs by allowing you to compare tutor qualifications, hourly rates, and reviews for your best-matched homework help. Offering flexibility with online and in-person sessions, Wyzant lets you decide how you want to learn. However, there's one drawback: if you're looking for 24/7 assistance with your homework, this may not be the best platform. As the site specializes in tutoring sessions, the homework help options aren't as robust. On the other hand, the "ask a question" service offered by Wyzant for homework does appear to be free.

Ask a question to start

To get started with Wyzant's homework help service, you just need to type your question in the text box and submit it. If you don't have an account already, the site will prompt you. This way, when one of the on-staff tutors answers your question, you can be instantly notified via email. While there isn't anything complicated or confusing about the question-and-answer process, it also isn't as robust as other services unless you want to take advantage of one-on-one tutoring.

Best Homework Help Sites

Help with 300+ subjects

With a robust offering of over 300 subjects, the platform facilitates more than a million lessons annually through trusted instructors. Wyzant's extensive subject coverage spans from algebra and chemistry to languages and coding, reflecting its commitment to assisting students across various academic domains. However, most of the topics covered by Wyzant are high school level. So, if you're looking for help in a college-level class, this may not be ideal for you.

Tutor qualifications are lower than average

To become a tutor at Wyzant, there are only a few simple requirements. Tutors must be at least 18 years old and living in the United States. Wyzant does not require tutors to have degrees or to be certified as teachers, though those factors are a bonus in their hiring process. We were a little surprised at the lax requirements for tutors given that many of Wyzant's competitors require college degrees (and sometimes advanced degrees) to offer help to students in the tutor's area of expertise. In some cases, companies require exams during the hiring process. Wyzant doesn't require any of these things, which might be tied into some concerns reviewers had about tutor matches.

Free homework answers

For the question and answer homework help, Wyzant's services are free. However, if you want to utilize a tutoring session, the pricing changes depending on which tutor you hire. While the platform aims to provide a general idea of expected rates, the variability in online and in-person tutoring locations results in a broad cost spectrum, ranging from $35 to over $155 per hour.

Best Homework Help Sites

Reputation has fallen recently

Understandably, Wyzant faces mixed reviews and concerns about potential overcharging, which is part of why the platform's rating has fallen recently. While Wyzant used to hold an "A-" rating from the Better Business Bureau, it now only has a "B+" rating, showing a decline in popularity. Further, reviews on third-party sites like Sitejabber and Trustpilot exhibit some variability, contributing to a 3.8-star average on Sitejabber and a 2.8-star rating on Trustpilot. The main concerns revolve around the time it takes to find a suitable tutor and occasional disparities in tutoring rates. Not many of the reviews focus on the homework help service specifically.

Mid-tier service with free homework help

While Wyzant remains a prominent and user-friendly platform for tutoring services, with an option for free questions-and-answers-style homework help, its reputation raises some questions about its ongoing quality. While there is praise for the tutoring service, reviewers also had concerns about overcharging and tutor matching issues. For these reasons, Wyzant falls in the middle of the pack for homework help. It's not the most robust platform, but it has a free option for homework help, making it competitive.

Infoplease Review

  • Database organization
  • Average rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars

Infoplease promises a comprehensive reference and learning platform, integrating the features of an encyclopedia, dictionary, atlas, and various almanacs filled with statistics, facts, and historical records. Despite their claim to excellence and multiple awards post-launch, Infoplease has faced criticism for grammatical errors and a difficult-to-use interface, and we totally agree. If you're looking for a polished user experience, you should definitely check out one of our higher-rated options instead.

A little confusing when you first arrive

Upon accessing Infoplease, our initial experience wasn't the most welcoming. The front page of Infoplease is heralded by a cluttered interface full of blue hyperlinks, different-sized fonts, and extremely small or disorganized text. The last update to their homework center in February 2017 raises concerns about the site's maintenance and relevance to modern textbooks and methodologies. There are strange links too, to non-education-related materials like "Top Secret: SCP Foundation" which is a fictional story (and not one popular in English programs).

Lots of subjects, but poor organization

Infoplease offers a variety of subjects such as geography, history, language arts, mathematics, science, and more. The search bar allows you to explore the site's tools like a conversion calculator, periodic table, distance calculator, math flashcards, Roman numeral challenge, and others. In general, the tools seem a little random, though they could prove beneficial in specific scenarios.

Best Homework Help Sites

Difficult to use for specific needs

Each learning topic on Infoplease leads to a cascade of subcategories, providing you with more in-depth information. For instance, selecting science might lead to subtopics like earth science, physical science, or computer science. However, it's pretty challenging to sift through the information to address specific homework help needs, making it more suitable for casual learners exploring a wide array of subjects.

No tutors on staff

Infoplease is different from some of the other sites in our review because it functions primarily as a database. So, there aren't any on-staff tutors to help you out. If you want to dig up information on your homework at Infoplease, you're totally on your own. This may not be ideal for more complex subjects like advanced sciences or mathematics.

On the bright side, you don't have to pay for Infoplease. So, you can explore an extensive wealth of information without incurring any costs. However, this seems only fair considering how complicated it is to find what you need at Infoplease. In general, you might be better off looking on Google before digging through Infoplease for what you need. But despite the need for updates, the platform remains an open resource for those seeking knowledge without financial constraints.

Best Homework Help Sites

Solid reputation for those looking for casual research

Since Infoplease is free to use and not a business, the company doesn't have a page on the Better Business Bureau. However, reviews on sites like Sitejabber give us an idea of how students are using Infoplease and what their experiences are like. The overall rating is a solid 4.5 stars out of 5. On the other hand, most of the reviews come from casual researchers or those who aren't looking to answer particular homework questions. While you can find extra details about a topic of interest or a few study guides with general information, this won't be the place to answer those in-depth textbook questions.

Not an ideal platform for homework

Infoplease initially aimed to establish itself as a comprehensive knowledge hub. While the mission was commendable, it appears that over time, the platform struggled to keep pace with evolving internet study tools, leading to a loss of direction. Regrettably, seeking homework help on Infoplease may prove futile. However, it remains a viable resource for those interested in self-directed learning or exploring new topics in their free time. Since it doesn't stand out in the homework help department, Infoplease gets a lower-than-average rating.

Pear Deck Learning Review

  • Pricing based on quotes
  • Synchronous tutoring sessions
  • Focus on individual learning

Pear Deck Learning, formerly known as TutorMe, is an innovative online tutoring platform that's reshaping the way students learn... supposedly. At Pear Deck Learning, what they're really working toward is a bit of a mystery. The site lacks much of the transparency it had before the rebrand, making it more difficult to suss out specifics.

Reputation has fallen

What we do know is that Pear Deck Learning kept TutorMe's adherence to one-on-one tutoring sessions as its main drive. But while the company used to have an impressive track record (back when it was TutorMe) of over 1.3 million live sessions, writing lab submissions, and 705,000 hours of one-on-one interaction, Pear Deck Learning doesn't have the same reputation.

Site is missing major details

Starting your homework help with Pear Deck Learning is hidden behind a paywall. There's no detail about what you can expect from the program until you click on the "request a quote" button. There isn't even an online chatbot to ask questions. This is a huge departure from how Pear Deck Learning ran things back when it was still TutorMe. Despite a gorgeous design interface, we're a little skeptical about this new rebrand.

Best Homework Help Sites

Focuses on individual tutoring

When it comes to tutoring at Pear Deck Learning, you'll get one-on-one virtual lessons. In addition to the live sessions, Pear Deck Learning still claims an extensive catalog of subjects. But, Pear Deck Learning is a tutoring-only service. If you're looking for an online library or asynchronous learning tools for your homework help, you won't find them here. Unfortunately, details about what you'll find in these one-on-one sessions are scarce.

Lower requirements for tutors

The requirements for tutors to work at Pear Deck Learning appear much less stringent than they were in the past. Potential tutors only need to be 18 years old and have proficiency in the subjects they want to tutor in. This is a major departure from other top competitors who require college degrees or even higher education for their staff members.

No transparency in pricing

While TutorMe had a detailed description of prices, Pear Deck Learning in its new form does not. As we mentioned earlier, all of the details about the tutoring program are hidden behind the "quote" button. There are no prices (even general ones) listed on the site. So, without submitting your personal information and waiting for a quote to pop up in your email, there's no way to know for sure how much you might be paying for Pear Deck Learning's services. Unsurprisingly, there were no details about refunds either.

Best Homework Help Sites

Lack of a reputation raises questions

Unfortunately, Pear Deck Learning is so new since its rebranding from TutorMe, the new company doesn't have any ratings on the Better Business Bureau. Since the company has been extremely different in practice and presentation since the rebrand, we don't feel comfortable substituting TutorMe's old "A" rating from the Better Business Bureau. In terms of third-party reviews, there's really nothing out there for Pear Deck Learning either. One site offers 16 reviews with a 5-star average, so maybe there's hope for this rebrand, but we're still skeptical.

Rebrand is still too fresh

At the end of the day, Pear Deck Learning just doesn't stand out the way it did before the rebrand. With little to no information on major details of the site, we're not sure what the prices are, what the tutoring sessions are really like, or if you should trust them to help out with your homework. So, with a lack of transparency being the primary concern here, Pear Deck Learning earns a lower rating in our review. We hope that the company will be able to impress us in the future once it's fully settled from the rebrand, but right now, you're better off looking somewhere else for homework help services.

Top Homework Helper Review

  • Tutors at "Ph.D. Level"

Top Homework Helper is a site that operates around the clock to offer personalized solutions to your homework challenges. Top Homework Helper emphasizes delivering excellent solutions to help students make a positive impression on their professors. However, a potential concern emerges as Top Homework Helper seems geared toward providing answers rather than facilitating a deep understanding of the subject matter. The FAQ section raises questions about hiring someone to complete assignments, with affirmative responses suggesting a focus on completing tasks rather than fostering learning.

Submit your question and wait

Three straightforward steps guide you through the process of utilizing Top Homework Helper's services. First, you need to submit your homework questions, specifying the subject and attaching relevant documents. Following this, payment is made using PayPal, a debit card, or a credit card, although the pricing details remain undisclosed. An expert then reaches out to provide a solution before the specified deadline.

Get answers on 100+ subjects

Top Homework Helper covers over 100 subjects, including geography, math, biotechnology, humanities, language arts, computer science, and more, typically aligning with 6th- through 12th-grade coursework, including essay writing. In terms of using the services, you can set your own deadlines when submitting homework questions to Top Homework Helper. You'll usually get a solution promptly, with some answers available in as little as 24 hours. However, if you're looking for free online resources or synchronous tutoring, you're out of luck here.

Best Homework Help Sites

Tutors hold PhDs

While we struggled to find any details about the qualifications for working at Top Homework Helper, the online chat feature let us find out super quick. The chat representative told us that the tutors at Top Homework Helper are all "Ph.D. level" . This was highly impressive compared to some companies that hire those with high school diplomas. However, the chat rep also used some pretty broken English in our communication which raised some eyebrows. We're not sure if "Ph.D. level" means that the tutors hold Ph.D.s or if this is just a "level" of knowledge that employees have.

Pricing lacks transparency

Another place we weren't particularly impressed with was the lack of transparency regarding prices. Top Homework Helper uses a quote-based payment system where you pay for each question you ask. While this avoids paying monthly for tutoring services you may or may not need, it does leave a lot of questions. The only statement on the website is that the prices are "reasonable." But to see any pricing, you'll have to make an account and submit a homework request.

One free revision

Top Homework Helper doesn't appear to offer refunds or guarantees. However, the company does offer a free revision if the original solution to your question is insufficient or unhelpful. This is particularly beneficial when you have writing assignments you need Top Homework Helper's assistance with.

Best Homework Help Sites

Reputation is one of the worst

Top Homework Helper lacks recognition from the Better Business Bureau and has gotten lots of student complaints on third-party review sites. On Sitejabber, for example, Top Homework Helper has an average rating of 1 star out of 5. Reviews highlight issues such as grammatical errors in assignments, delayed expert responses, and unclear pricing structures. The absence of transparent pricing until after discussing homework details makes us doubt the platform's reliability and commitment to clear communication.

Too many red flags

There are a lot of red flags to watch out for at Top Homework Helper. On top of the abysmal 1-star review average, you'll find broken English on several pages of the website. Plus, the lack of transparency on pricing is a huge downside since you don't know what you're getting into before you get your quote. Given these factors, it's safer to choose one of our higher-rated options over Top Homework Helper for homework assistance.

Quiz+ Review

  • Prices by quote

Quiz+ is a study tool database, offering a range of resources like quizzes, tests, flashcards, and textbooks spanning 30 academic fields, from anthropology to nursing. Designed for students looking to streamline their test preparation, the platform allows you to select a subtopic and course, offering ready-made study materials. It's particularly useful for independent learners, making it an excellent resource for AP students aiming to stay organized and focused. However, with some significant red flags, Quiz+ isn't the homework help solution it promises to be.

Look through the library of tools

To get started, you can search the huge database right away to see if the resources you're looking for are available for free. When you search for a topic or subject, you'll see all the different tools available for you. As a test, we just searched AP English and saw the following tools:

  • What other students viewed
  • Common questions for your topic
  • Textbook solutions
  • Online courses
  • Downloadable documents

The tools that are available for free will have a little unlock symbol next to them. The rest will have an "unlock" button.

Four ways to complete homework

The total range of services includes 4 different options to support your education. You can expect textbook solutions, docu-assist (where you upload your homework problems and Quiz+ will help you finish it), 24/7 homework assistance via community help, and flashcards. To use the homework help section of the site, you can type out your question or upload a photo, select the subject of your questions, and then Quiz+ posts your question to a public forum where other community members help you answer your question. You can choose to do this anonymously or through your username. However, it's unclear if this is free or part of the premium membership.

Best Homework Help Sites

No on-staff tutors

As all of the services are completed by the community (like homework help) or by AI (like the docu-assist), there aren't any on-staff tutors or experts to help you out at Quiz+. This program appears pretty hands-off beyond facilitating the database for students.

No details regarding prices

Pricing is a bit of a sticking point with Quiz+. We couldn't find any mention of the price either for pay-per-question or for the premium membership. Even with outside research from reviews or online blogs, it was completely unclear. Quiz+'s pricing structure appears to be "quote-based" according to one source, but we were unable to verify that from Quiz+ itself. For this reason, we're a little wary of suggesting Quiz+. With unclear pricing, it doesn't stand out as the most trustworthy place to put your money.

No refunds allowed

We were able to find a refund policy, and it isn't particularly uplifting. According to Quiz+'s terms and conditions, the company will not offer refunds of any kind. Their FAQ section says this specifically: "All Subscription fees are non-refundable. No refund will be granted regardless of the reason. This policy is strict. You recognize and agree that you shall not be entitled to a refund for any purchase under any circumstances." Yikes - talk about zero customer service!

Best Homework Help Sites

Recent reviews show significant concern

Quiz+ had a higher rating than we expected given the general lack of customer service demonstrated by the company's policies. But the ratings still aren't great. From the Better Business Bureau, Quiz+ holds a "B-" rating, and outside the BBB the reviews are decidedly average as well. From Trustpilot, the company has earned an average rating of 3.5 stars out of 5, though on Sitejabber, that score is a much lower 2.6-star average. Customers are calling the "free trial" from Quiz+ a "scam" as it only lasts 48 hours before you're charged. Customers also note that they had problems with the billing system where they were charged too much and couldn't secure a refund due to the no refund policy at Quiz+. Most of the recent reviews recommend staying away from Quiz+

Last place for customer service

While there are some solid learning tools at Quiz+, the lack of transparency and lack of customer service are two red flags you don't want to ignore. With our caution echoed by warnings in recent third-party reviews, it's a no-brainer for us to suggest you try one of the higher-rated services in our review instead. For these reasons, as well as its dishonest pricing and completely unbending policy regarding refunds, Quiz+ earns a low rating. Keep your money and try another company first.

Continued from above...

There are tons of exceptional online resources and websites that stand ready to assist students with their homework at any time. These platforms cover hundreds of subjects - ranging from math and science to literature, music, art, and even specialized college-level courses. The beauty of these online lifesavers lies in their ability to connect students with experts who are adept at navigating the intricacies of academic challenges.

Late-night study sessions can quickly turn into a frustrating experience when you're grappling with a perplexing assignment. And, not all subjects are easily comprehensible. Every student has a unique learning style. When the classroom explanations fail to provide clarity, the homework can become an uphill battle.

Online homework help services offer tons of different learning tools and features. Imagine having access to personalized tutors, vocabulary flashcards, textbook solutions, searchable essays, and much more. The primary focus isn't merely on solving homework problems but on providing comprehensive, step-by-step assistance that aids in grasping the fundamental concepts.

Whether you're looking for one-on-one help in a tutoring session or a database to find answers specific to your textbook, there's a service out there that will serve your study needs. The best part is that many of these services operate 24/7, so you have a reliable homework lifeline whenever the need arises.

Since there are so many sites out there that offer homework help, making the right choice can be daunting. Before committing to a membership or a pay-per-question service, be sure to check out these criteria:

  • Subjects offered. Make sure the platform you choose has the subjects and level that you need to get your homework questions answered. Some only offer K-12 whereas others offer all grade levels (even for graduate degrees).
  • Cost. Pricing can play a huge role in which service you select. While some companies offer free homework help services, others charge per service or per month. Knowing how much you want to spend and balancing that with the quality of homework help can make sure you find the right company.
  • Reputation. Real user experiences can provide valuable insights into whether or not a service is right for you. Are other students succeeding at getting answers to their homework problems? Are there concerns about payments or security? Check customer reviews and a company's reputation with the Better Business Bureau to get a clear look at how each business operates for students just like you.
  • Variety of services. Everyone has a different learning style. Make sure that your chosen platform has the learning tools you need. Are you looking for resources, such as video tutorials, interactive quizzes, and practice problems? Or do you want one-on-one interaction with a tutor to help explain the homework to you? Whether you want synchronous learning opportunities or asynchronous work at any time of the day, make sure the platform you choose supports that learning style.

To make sure you find the best homework help on the market today, Top Consumer Reviews has meticulously reviewed and ranked the top services. We hope this helps you stop worrying about how you're going to complete your complex homework and begin focusing on getting the answers you need to move forward with your course or degree program. 10 Best Homework Help Websites for Students

By Med Kharbach, PhD | Last Update: March 23, 2024

homework help websites

In the age of information, the pursuit of knowledge isn’t limited to the boundaries of a physical classroom. The internet, a vast repository of knowledge, provides an invaluable resource for students in need of assistance with their homework. But with such an expansive digital landscape, finding reliable, high-quality educational resources can often feel like searching for a needle in a haystack.

That’s where our curated list of the best homework help websites comes into play. To help you navigate the limitless sea of educational platforms, we’ve done the legwork and compiled a selection of the very best websites offering homework help. These websites, vetted for their quality and effectiveness, cover a broad range of subjects, ensuring that every student finds the assistance they need.

Homework Help Websites for Students

From math and science to language learning, social studies, and history, these platforms provide comprehensive resources that empower students to tackle their homework with confidence. Read on to explore our top picks and elevate your learning journey

1. AI Chatbots

Since I published this list on homework assistants, several shifts have occurred in the online landscape, one of which is the remarkable advancement of AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Jasper, Perplexity AI, among others. It struck me that these tools, if harnessed with care and responsibility, could serve as invaluable allies in the homework help arena.

These AI companions can offer instant assistance with a wide range of subjects, from math to literature, making them a flexible resource for students seeking to deepen their understanding or overcome specific challenges. Moreover, their ability to provide tailored support and explanations can make the learning process more engaging and personalized. It’s crucial, though, for students to remain critical thinkers and not rely solely on these tools, using them to supplement their learning journey rather than replace traditional study methods and the invaluable guidance of teachers.

Brainly is a website that offers homework help with subjects such as Math, Social Studies, World Languages, Computer Science, Arts, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, among others. Homework help in Brainly is community-driven and is provided by other students, tutors, Phds, and teachers. There is also the option for students to work 1:1 with tutors live. To learn more, check out Brainly full guide for students .

Chegg is another good website that offers homework help. More specifically Chegg offers three main services: Chegg Study, Textbook rentals, and Internship career advice. These services are accessible for a fee, the subscription plan starts at 14.95 per month.

The Chegg Study comprises the following features: textbook solutions, expert Q&A, writing help, math solver, premium flashcards, video explanations and more. To learn more, check out  Chegg’s full tutorial for students .

3- Socratic

Socratic offers homework help with Science, Math, Literature, Social Studies and more. Socratic provides visual explanations, video tutorials  and detailed step by step guides to help students understand complex concepts.

Using Google AI, Socratic makes it super easy for any student to find solutions to their learning problems. Quizlet is a very good homework help website. It equips students with the tools they need to learn any skill. There are in-depth explanations that use step by step explanations to show students how to solve complex problems.

Quizlet hosts solutions in over 60 subjects. The Flashcard feature in Quizlet is another powerful tool to help students prepare for their assignments and quizzes. Students can create their own interactive flashcards and study sets or use pre-made ones shared by other students and learners. Quizlet is also available as a mobile app for both iOS and Android devices. To learn more, check out Quizlet guide for teachers and students .

5- Bartleby

Bartleby enables students to search for and find answers to their learning problems, access textbooks, and explore step by step explanations to homework questions. Students can also browse homework help by subject.

There are numerous subjects covered including math, language, engineering, business, social science, science, and many more. Besides homework help, Bartleby also offers a virtual writing center to help students develop their writing skills and Bartleby tutor which provides 1-on-1 tutoring help 24/7. Plus a free trial period, Bartleby also offers the first week for $4.99.

6- Numerade

Numerade features short explanatory STEM video lessons covering answers to different textbook problems and questions. Students can search for problems  or upload an image and get instant help.

Each explanation comes with a step by step video lesson showing how to solve textbook problems. Numerade offers help with textbook questions in the following subjects: physics, algebra, trigonometry, biology, chemistry, accounting, calculus, geometry, statistics, pre-calc, accounting, and many more. Nemrade is also available as an iOS app.

Shmoop offers homework help and study guides for students. Shmoop’s materials stand out because of the dose of humour integrated in them. Shmoop’s resources include study guides, courses, quizzes, assignments, activities, test prep, book summaries, and many more. Some of the resources provided by Shmoop are free but to unlock all the features and content a premium subscription is required.

Enotes is another website to assist students with their homework. It offers precise summaries of books and Q&A services. Students can ask questions about books they have difficulty understanding and Enotes provides answers.

There are over 375.000 questions answered, over 30.000 book summaries, quizzes, lesson plans, study guides and many more. Enotes offers a 48-hour free trial after which you need to upgrade to unlock the site’s features.

9- Sparknotes

Another homework help website that is similar to Enotes. Sparknotes offers study guides that are mostly (but not exclusively) focused on literature. Other subjects covered include: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Math, History, Psychology, Philosophy, Sociology, and many more.

Teachers can also access materials to help them with the teaching of classic literature including lesson plans and several other customizable materials. Sparknotes offers the first month for free then you need to upgrade to access the site’s materials.

10- Khan Academy

Khan Academy is another very good platform students can use to access a plethora of educational resources covering different subject areas. The site offers tutorials, instructional videos, explainers, guides, lesson plans and many more.

Final thoughts

The landscape of education has been significantly altered by technology, and homework websites are no exception. They offer a range of features—from collaboration tools and assignment trackers to full-fledged courses—that are changing the way students engage with their studies. Whether it’s Khan Academy’s mastery learning approach or Chegg’s expert guidance, each platform brings its unique offerings to the table.

That being said, no homework website can replace the tactile experience of a teacher’s guidance, and not all are made equal. As with anything in the educational tech world, it’s crucial to critically evaluate the sources we rely on. In my experience, while some websites can indeed be lifesavers during crunch time or as complementary study aids, others can be more of a distraction than a help.

Nonprofit service

The company's tutors have served more than 7,000 students since the nonprofit launched in 2012. The program offers math, science, reading, and English tutoring to students in kindergarten through 12th grade from qualified families. Parents regularly report that their children’s test scores and GPAs improved significantly after enrolling in Learn To Be.

If your family needs affordable tutoring, head to Learn To Be’s website to fill out an enrollment form. If you’re approved, your child will be matched with a tutor by email, and they will create a personalized study plan from there.

Compare Online Tutoring Services

Guide to choosing the best online tutoring service.

You'll want to sort through a number of features to determine the best online tutoring service, but it's important to first identify the purposes for which you need a tutor and be sure a service's offerings align with your needs. You'll also want to consider the technology your student will need to use.

For example, you may seek a tutor to prep for a specific standardized test, or you may want a tutor to help a student struggling with a specific subject. Providers of online tutoring services may include:

  • Qualified teachers
  • Subject matter experts

They teach students in one-on-one sessions via video chat, phone, or even online chat and email. You may want to build a long-term relationship with a specific tutor over time, or you might use a tutoring service that allows you to contact a variety of instructors at any time, day or night.

While cost is often a consideration, value may be more important to you and your student. Some services like Chegg Study, our top pick, aren't free, but they're more affordable than other programs. A more comprehensive online tutoring service, with experts and high-quality resources like practice tests, may be worth the added expense.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who should use online tutoring services.

Reasons for using an online tutoring service include both the need to improve in a specific subject and the need for academic enrichment. Some people want to prepare for a standardized test or focus on specific tasks, like writing college entrance essays.

Is Quick Homework Help Available Through Online Tutoring?

Yes, online tutoring services do serve students who need instant homework help. Some online tutoring services give students access to a subject matter expert at any time, day or night. Quick-answer services may be more cost-effective than the longer-term tutoring plans.

Is Paying for a Tutor Worth It?

The answer likely depends on your family budget and your reasons for hiring a tutor. The best value comes when you've chosen a qualified tutor with whom the one-on-one sessions work well, and you're careful to support the effort at home. Check with your student's teacher, too, to be sure tutoring is worth it.

We selected these programs for our list of the best online tutoring services based on the variety of available subjects and tutoring/teaching expertise, along with quality, affordability, schedule flexibility, tutor availability, and user-friendly technology. We chose some tutoring services because they had a mix of all or many of these elements, according to users. Others made it onto the list because of a specific benefit that made them stand out. For example, Preply earned a spot on the list because of its laser focus on assisting language learners of all stripes. Likewise, Smarthinking is ideal for students who need to sharpen their writing skills.

Homework help

The downsides of free homework help..

How often do use assistance of the Internet in doing your homework? We bet, it's your daily routine to open a browser and start looking for solutions. Do you think the strangers on the other side of the screen will provide necessary information for your math homework help? Unlikely! After one successful task there might be a sad outcome. We want you to be cautious about the websites you look for assistance, that's why we have gathered the disadvantages of asking Google for free homework help.

First, and the main downside is the inability to check the result. People helping you with your task might not know the answers themselves. And what assistance would you get in this case? Wrong answers!

Second, it's the proficiency of the strangers on the other side of the screen. Who are they? College professors who came to provide homework help for free? Or just students like you who might not be able to cope with a simple task. They might not now anything about the subject, or might be way too self-confident and give you wrong answers.

Think twice before using the help from these people. In the next part of the article we describe the most popular sources of homework assistance and give our honest opinion about them.

The best websites for homework help.

When a student is looking for help he always (no exaggeration!) expects it to be free. Of course, being a college student always means being tight on budget and looking for the ways to save money even more. But it should be related to college homework help. Sadly, there are thousands of examples when a bad homework resulted in bad grades, and a poor student had to learn more to pass the exam. That's why we don't recommend to look for answers on the websites like Reddit or Chegg. Why? We explain below.
